You should read Misery by Stephen King! It's on the shorter side and is one of his books that actually has a decent ending. From what I understand, he's kind of known for not ending books very well

Salems Lot was really good too, much better than movie, and I found the ending very suiting. There are a number of Stephen King books with good endings, but they just may not be his more mainstream ones.

I totally agree with you about the 6th of Harry Potter :) When you finish the order of the phoenix, the biggest book in the series, you're happy because there was so much happening and it didn't finish too quick. Then you're disappointed because the half-blood prince is much shorter, and you need more school stuff ! But obviously, still a wondeful book ;) Love your videos !

Looks like you had a pretty good reading month Emily! I really want to read IT but yikes its so huge! Also I'm not sure in Canadian news if they talked about Hurricane Harvey that hit the south of Texas but just pray for us down here especially here in Houston, TX. So many have lost so much and its absolute heartbreaking. We have a lot of rebuilding and things to go through in the aftermath. Thank you for uploading this video to get my mind off of the devastation here in my city. We Texans are strong and we can get through this. Thank you for being one of my favorite booktubers.

I actually appreciate that you choose to read books what interest you! I think out of all the booktube reviewers, you have the most eclectic taste. Who cares if you read more of one genre than another 💁. I have been pretty grid locked into adult fantasy novels and have recently read a few YA...namely the Lunar chronicles. After I got to That Part of the ending of IT, I almost DNFed it right there, despite how long it took to get there. I knew from reviews that there was *something* horrible coming, but not in my wildest dreams did I imagine That. It was my first Stephen King novel so now I'm hesitant to pick him up again. Overall I thought there were some very good parts of the novel, but for the most part I don't think it needed to be as long as it was. I didn't need all the endless backstory of characters that showed up once. But there were parts that really creeped me out.

My recommendation for coming of age, dystopian fantasy is "Vivian Amberville - The Weaver of Odds" by Louise Blackwick.
It's a new and little known author, but the book has a fanbase of 2-3 million readers.Vivian Amberville is basically a masterpiece of the fantasy genre, in right league with George Martin, J.K.Rowling and Patrick Rothfuss.
Vivian Amberville follows the story of a teenage girl who can manipulate the outcome of events. She can travel between dimensions and ultimately discovers she can reshape reality. The story mainly takes place in two worlds: one is a futuristic failed Great Britain, the other a fantasy realm where thoughts can be shaped into things.
The masterpiece of this work is the multi-layered world the author created, the lifelike characters and the hidden messages in the story. A recommended read for fantasy and sci fi fans.

Was really contemplating reading It, but I don't think I'd finish it considering how many people complain how slow it can get and because of the end. Guess I'll stick to the movie instead. Mostly wanted to read it because I want to read a scary book... but I never find them scary? I've read The Shining by Stephen King but it was more so psychological thriller than horror, which is something I encounter a lot when reading horror books.

  • @ashleykbarks
    @ashleykbarks 7 лет назад

Now I am hesitant to read IT.... I was thinking about listening to it instead of reading it, but I have so many tomes to get through on audiobook that it will take a while to get to it.
Honestly, you finished Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi... I think you should continue that series, because you were saying you keep starting trilogies, but not finishing them.
Since you and I are not big romance fans (I honestly rolled my eyes through half of Shatter Me and wanted to put the book down because the instant love was that bad), I figure I'll plead my case.
I just finished Unravel Me yesterday, and there is a lot more PLOT building in that book. Today I started Ignite Me, and it is going by very quickly. The love and relationship factor really took a step back in the second book, and I think the insta-love from the first book is building up to something else in the last book. There isn't so much instant love anymore, and the characters are finally thinking and doing more important things now.
Even though Shatter Me wasn't that great, what other people were saying about the following books is true.... they get exponentially better.

  • @MysticsLibrary

I had a very similar problem with Stephen King's The Stand that you had with IT. The vast majority of the book was AMAZING. But I really didn't like the ending. And it brought down the rating that I gave the book on Goodreads by quite a bit (I gave it a 3.5 out of 5 instead of the 4 that I was planning). And it was the same thing... 1500 pages only to be disappointed by the ending. I took a break from Stephen King after that.
I'm also planning on starting Shadow and Bone soon because like you, I want to read the Grisha series before starting the Six of Crows duology. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Off topic, but that lipstick is GORGEOUS. What brand/color is it? I think I need it, lol.

Does the IT book ends like the movie from the 90s? I loved that movie (so much that I think the remake is going to suck) but hated the end. I only read 2 books by Stephen King ( one was very long but didn't like the end) but I've seen the Stand (my favorite), the Tommyknockers, It, the Shining, Dead Zone (that I actually read and enjoyed also), Cujo, Christine, Misery and that's it I think (yeah my mom was a fan lol)

Do you have something like a comfort zone type of genre? I always go back to paranormal fantasy when I feel like I need something entertaining to get out of a reading slump. I also don't read much in genres that don't work for me, like horror. I can read one book in that genre but then it's over, if I would try to read many books in a genre I don't particularly like this could cause a reading slump.
