Really good, thoughtful, and detailed review. Including the cons and why they're cons, which you even get into further in the comments. Simplistic combat and boring dungeons though are a huge negative for me as that would get tedious and unchallenging. Wishlist for now to see how this may/ may not change. Is the overworld procedurally generated though or is it the same map with everything in the same place if starting a new game?
Thank you! From 2 different servers, it was the same layout and placement. Not sure if that can be adjusted, but for those two attempts, it was the same.
I think this is the best vid on this game so far, thanks for the great insights - it really looks like a fun game, especially if the devs work with the community to keep improving it, it has so much potential..
I feel like they should introduce something to make your character more interesting in combat. Right now it looks like playing fortnite with monsters. Those are good monsters, but yeah, the character needs something more to do.
Pokemon, Zelda, Ark. Lets go. I hope this game pops off for a long time. Guess I will do creative and take hunger off if possible to avoid Pals getting stuck
the idea is kinda cool. but the execution, at least for me is horrible. talking about the aesthetic of the game. my only problem is the way the world looks in contrast with how the mons and mc looks. the world has a realistic style and then there are these plastic monsters that wanders around. just choose a graphic style man, or all realistic or all stylazied/plastic/cartoony not a mix of the 2. its really ugly (again imo)
For the performance aspect on low end systems, I was able to play on a playable level on a work laptop with low power, no gpu, 8gb ram, and a intel 15 12th gen
When I first saw early trailers, I was like, "Pass." But I watched/listened to a video from Asmongold and became interested. To me, it feels like an RTS. The game has base building, upgrading units, climbing a tech tree, and taking care of units. Something similar to first-person RTSs in the past like Battlezone and Urban Assault. Is this the wrong way to view this game? I mean does this game have elements of an RTS or am I just seeing things? It's on my Steam wishlist now.
I will say the cons are not the worst. Considering everything they were promising I was expecting The Day Before kind of problems but sounds like like a lot of things that can be fixed easily
@@abk5828 That is the only part that might be a problem that is not fixable but who knows that might get worked out. The other systems are enough to hold for repetitive combat
I love how fire creatures aluminate dark caves. "When you summon it." I think this game is "Objectively IS." Blatantly ripping off multiple other games and to an extent I am okay with that. What they and anybody else creating anything NEEDS to do, is make a unique UI, Flora, Fauna, ecosystem, history, politics and ect. When I look at this game it IS NOT new and or creative. IT IS a cookie cutter COPY of MULTIBLE other games. Which to an EXTENT "I think." is okay. Again while watching this game it has many great qualities/features of other games, which definitely makes it a 10/10 FUN game. What I want though is for it to LOOK like its own game and not like anybody else's... WOOT WOOT games are fun, THANK you for making this video.
I know more adults playing other pokemon content than kids so stressing that this is "pokemon for adults" is not really telling me anything especially since those creatures in this game look like teletubbies too
have you played Chimeraland? they did this (Palworld) already and I think they did a better job at launch, only problem is it has Eastern pay to win/get ahead mechanics built in. But it is available on multiple platforms including mobile. I like that Palworld allows you to have pals running around in your base, and the host your own server availability. But I think Chimeraland is a better game overall (just wish it had modern graphics, the game was not globally available for about 2 years before global launch, so it is around 4-5 years old and it looks like it)
What is it with the neverending 'like Zelda' comparisons? This game is more like Ark or even Conan Exiles than anything else. One streamer must have started it and everyone just copies without thinking. 'But it has a glider', and so does ArcheAge, and that game launched four years prior to BotW.
Game is 1005 worth $20 bucks. Game might even win GOTY if it keeps getting steam and fixes the bugs. It's an amazing game that you don't have to pay $100 for.
this looks like it could be great fun on the Steam Deck, does anyone know if the devs are planning to support it specifically? eg. with an in game Steam Deck optimised graphic setting?
More than likely not, but people have reported it running just fine on the deck. (especially since the minimum and recommended requirements on steam are very low)
The combat does have some depth when it comes to your character, you can roll or backflip to avoid damage, you can use the environment to block some enemy attacks and you can bait enemy pals into attacking each other so the neutral Pals around could join the fight attacking your enemy alongside you (I baited a gang of Pangullets to attack Mammorath and it eradicated them for me) You can also slide and also grapple to get to hard to reach locations for melee enemies. Pal Balls could also be used to interrupt and cancel enemy attacks (only case this doesn't work is the tower bosses or if the ball level is too low for the enemy).
Certainly feels like they've used Craftopia as a stepping stone to get this game done. I see so many things directly from that game and it kinda worries me. Craftopia has gotten a lot of stuff added to it over the years but it stills just feels like a giant mess of features and mechanics. Dungeons being boring is my biggest concern, and it comes directly from Craftopia. Always the same. So boring. Really makes you not want to go and explore for them, even though it's needed. But hopefully their roadmap will reveal a lot of things people want to see improved upon.
Pokemon for adults is not accurate. At least not the mainstream pokemon games with turn base combat. This is a monster taming, monster raising, open world survival game. There is no turn base fighting and you do not really directly control your Pals in combat like in Pokemon.
I disagree about the combat system. I rarely use my pals outside of boss battles. I use my long rang weapon like a musket to get heavy damage at range then switch to my pistal to avoid the muskets slow reload. If I want to catch the pal rather then kill it I switch to the stun baton. Also don't forget about the dogs roll mechanic. Or the grenades.
I'm playing on an Xbox Series X and it looks good so far, so it can only go up from here! Can't wait for the updates, and my kids can't wait for me to let them play too!
i am very hesitant on getting this because it just looks like a soulless survival game in a generic world with pokemon tacked onto it. systems look pretty well thought out but in terms of actual worldbuilding and soul it seems to lack any kind of immhersion.
pressing down f to craft? u literally have automated NPCs do the work for you lol what do you mean you hope they implement something for it? lol ITS ALREADY THERE
Combat doesnt sound lack luster with all those pals involved and seems more complex than that of ARK or at the very least equivalent to it. Does he mean you dont have things like magic powers or ultimate abilities? because that would be VERY out of place in most survival games.
Pals add some variety and are the star of the show when it comes to combat. As for you, the player, there is a lack of weaponry and variety. I think this will get addressed through EA though.
@@Vulkan_Gaming Ah okay, I can understand that. Like I dont need a gun system like borderlands in a game like this but if there is a distinct lack of variety like snipers, tranq guns, net launchers etc. that offer variety then yah that can get pretty samezi, or even like tier variety like a sawed off shotgun then pump then auto, stuff like that.
Always appreciate your thoroughness. Thanks for a great review. I'm going to wait until they address some of the QOL stuff. Especially the holding down F thing. OOF!
Holding down F for what? To build? Pals do literally all the work for you once you deploy them to your base. You do not even need to be there. Simply put a blueprint down (or several) and leave it there and any pal who has the skill will come and build it automatically unless they are doing some other task. Pals can even be assigned to specific workbenches to always produce whatever you craft there.
this game is AMAZING my only slight criticism is i wish we had more control of the pals attacks for example there be an auto mode where they can attack how they want(how it is now) and a manual mode where you can control the specific special abilities at will(without mounting it) it would give it a sort of dynamic also make it stop attacking if a enemy pal is in the red zone to give more of an opening weather u wanna capture it or not but overall i look forward to playing it in the 19th
Keep in mind that the release on the 19th is actually the release of Early Access, not the full release. Who knows what they will do and adds throughout the EA, and it's the perfect time for giving them feedback and suggestions. It's good though, that the game seems pretty polish already for an EA release. Pretty excited for it myself!
Considering we have all these Pals with neat elemental attacks it seems like a missed opportunity to not have elemental weapons or something for the player to take advantage of the enemy's vulnerability. This seems pretty good but I'm still going to wait and see what kind of things they have on the roadmap that's supposedly coming after release.
Also when riding certain pals like a fire pal for example they can buff your gun to make you shoot fire bullets. Or lightning bullets on a lightning pal for example, pretty cool imo.
you can pick up and throw the pals, load up a RPG with a electric penguin and fire away, or just pick up a fox and call it a flame thrower, but I get what you mean. I want a electric sword or elemental player attacks too
my main issue with craftopia is that they do updates differently from the xbox and the pc so even though it's going to be free on game pass do I have to worry of it not being updated as quickly as the steam version
It's very tiring seeing everyone try and make open world games and they just give terrible combat. It's like combat is the last thing they even think about. Games with just one or 2 attacks and super simple combat shouldn't even exist anymore. Have some depth for god's sake lol. What's the point in playing with this awful combat. I'm dissapointed

To not press F - your Pals exist for that!
Agreed. Skills, affixes, someting to add some flavor in there.
Pokemon, Zelda, Ark. Lets go. I hope this game pops off for a long time. Guess I will do creative and take hunger off if possible to avoid Pals getting stuck
So fire the best type for coverage. Nice.
Flame on.
the idea is kinda cool. but the execution, at least for me is horrible. talking about the aesthetic of the game. my only problem is the way the world looks in contrast with how the mons and mc looks. the world has a realistic style and then there are these plastic monsters that wanders around. just choose a graphic style man, or all realistic or all stylazied/plastic/cartoony not a mix of the 2. its really ugly (again imo)
It's only ugly to you, I think it looks nice
You got a key for free. Your review is IMMEDIATELY invalid.
Broo you sound terrible at the game.
So Pokémon/ark pretty much
For the performance aspect on low end systems, I was able to play on a playable level on a work laptop with low power, no gpu, 8gb ram, and a intel 15 12th gen
it took over 20 years to become team rocket
When I first saw early trailers, I was like, "Pass."
But I watched/listened to a video from Asmongold and became interested.
It falls more into the "colony sim" category than RTS.
I will say the cons are not the worst. Considering everything they were promising I was expecting The Day Before kind of problems but sounds like like a lot of things that can be fixed easily
Hope so too!
How do they gonna fix boring combat?
If palworld has boring combat then Pokemon and ark has dreadful combat which I don't disagree on that part.
@@abk5828 That is the only part that might be a problem that is not fixable but who knows that might get worked out. The other systems are enough to hold for repetitive combat
Combat looks fine to me, some of yall just don't like shooters I guess
I like the combat style tbh i hate how complicated other games make it, nice to relaz sometimes
Is there an option to change from the over the shoulder action camera, to the WoW style?
Pokemon can never be like this
I love how fire creatures aluminate dark caves. "When you summon it."
I think this game is "Objectively IS." Blatantly ripping off multiple other games and to an extent I am okay with that.
Great video bro 👏
So the moral the story is? Don’t be like Jeffory Bezos to your slaves, I mean employees ☝️ 😤
Great interesting and informative review. Thanks for the upload
this looks like it could be great fun on the Steam Deck, does anyone know if the devs are planning to support it specifically? eg. with an in game Steam Deck optimised graphic setting?
More than likely not, but people have reported it running just fine on the deck. (especially since the minimum and recommended requirements on steam are very low)
It should run smoothly on the steam deck
I’ve heard a lot of reviewers say it runs surprisingly well on the Steam deck
The combat does have some depth when it comes to your character, you can roll or backflip to avoid damage, you can use the environment to block some enemy attacks and you can bait enemy pals into attacking each other so the neutral Pals around could join the fight attacking your enemy alongside you (I baited a gang of Pangullets to attack Mammorath and it eradicated them for me)
You can also slide and also grapple to get to hard to reach locations for melee enemies.
Thanks for the honest vid instead of dishonest hype train bullshit
Pokemon for adults is not accurate. At least not the mainstream pokemon games with turn base combat. This is a monster taming, monster raising, open world survival game. There is no turn base fighting and you do not really directly control your Pals in combat like in Pokemon.
Cool looking animals
I disagree about the combat system. I rarely use my pals outside of boss battles. I use my long rang weapon like a musket to get heavy damage at range then switch to my pistal to avoid the muskets slow reload. If I want to catch the pal rather then kill it I switch to the stun baton. Also don't forget about the dogs roll mechanic. Or the grenades.
I'm playing on an Xbox Series X and it looks good so far, so it can only go up from here! Can't wait for the updates, and my kids can't wait for me to let them play too!
Cook food for the pals is not neccessary - berry-plantation is enough (and a food bowl! They'll evel fill it themselves!)
i am very hesitant on getting this because it just looks like a soulless survival game in a generic world with pokemon tacked onto it. systems look pretty well thought out but in terms of actual worldbuilding and soul it seems to lack any kind of immhersion.
The Correct answer to the title of this video is yes! 100% worth your time. Ark+Pokemon+devs who care = 100% win
I don't like the part you have to hold to cook or build, they should add hold to auto, or something.
have the same pc specs as you so hopefully no perfomance issues ,that was my main worry
do the pals agro/tank? it looks like you'd die if hit multiple times.
Yep! They will pull.
pressing down f to craft? u literally have automated NPCs do the work for you lol what do you mean you hope they implement something for it? lol ITS ALREADY THERE
Moving buildings and work benches is not the norm, its a pain but im used to braking down stuff to move it
This game is great well worth your time so YESDown load now. It is in beta not finished stage and as some little issues but well. Worth it
Combat doesnt sound lack luster with all those pals involved and seems more complex than that of ARK or at the very least equivalent to it.
@@vewyscawymonsta bro would be screaming during the first few hours of satisfactory.
When will people realize that RuneScape is the best game ever made?
God I hope this comes to ps5
this game is AMAZING my only slight criticism is i wish we had more control of the pals attacks for example there be an auto mode where they can attack how they want(how it is now) and a manual mode where you can control the specific special abilities at will(without mounting it) it would give it a sort of dynamic also make it stop attacking if a enemy pal is in the red zone to give more of an opening weather u wanna capture it or not
but overall i look forward to playing it in the 19th
Keep in mind that the release on the 19th is actually the release of Early Access, not the full release. Who knows what they will do and adds throughout the EA, and it's the perfect time for giving them feedback and suggestions. It's good though, that the game seems pretty polish already for an EA release.
Pretty excited for it myself!
Is there a pre order or just buy it on the 19th?
@@jakeroehler8930just buy it
@@jakeroehler8930 theres no pre order for early access titles
Great review man, didn't know about this game until earlier today, and your video made me really want the game and I'm super exited for it!
I envy you. I WISH I just found out abt it. I’ve been waiting on it for like 2 years or so😭
Me play .
Me like.
If you need to craft a bunch of items have your pals do it. It is almost never correct for you to do the crafting yourself
Bro Complained about auto-run in a game with limited stamina and only requires a press of a button to run
You can craft poison/fire/standard weapons. So there is a little bit. But yeah, I'd like to see them expand this quite a bit.
Also when riding certain pals like a fire pal for example they can buff your gun to make you shoot fire bullets. Or lightning bullets on a lightning pal for example, pretty cool imo.
Yep! Gotta check for Partner Passives. Chillet, a frost dragon, will add dragon damage to your weapons when riding.
you can pick up and throw the pals, load up a RPG with a electric penguin and fire away, or just pick up a fox and call it a flame thrower, but I get what you mean. I want a electric sword or elemental player attacks too
Honestly I disagree. If the player could use an elemental weapon, the reasons to use a Pal would diminish.
But why are all the player characters redhead femboys?😅 💀
-says the redhead femboy🤣
Tempted to get it but how long can this last before someone sues for copyright. xD
This video did not give this game justice and keep in mind. The game is still in development. The game is awesome.
I don't know I like the game it does What Nintendo wishes it could've done with Pokemon lol
my main issue with craftopia is that they do updates differently from the xbox and the pc so even though it's going to be free on game pass do I have to worry of it not being updated as quickly as the steam version
"Pokemon for adults" I don't see anything for adults here.
Don't play then..okay bye felicia
What lol. I'm just tired of weak combat. I want this game to do good. It's like you can't have a critique without ppl saying don't play it. You dweeb@@joshua7426
The combat more focuses on the pals and your use of them.
Ofc is worth if your play for over 1 month in a law
"Pokemon for adults" Bro acting like kinds dont play gta
Yoo, what’s up bro! my mom bought me a gameboy color Pikachu edition with the Pokemon yellow game included to my birthday when I was a kid and I was hooked after that! I have played literally every main line Pokémon game since, ( plus some spinoff) so if that’s not telling u how big Pokemon fan and how hype i am about this game then I don’t know who can!😂 And many Pokemon fans is already calling this Pokemon with guns.
this game literally have everything that all the Pokémon game never had so I’m really hype about this game! I’m going to play it on Game Pass at first and then if I like it then I’m going to buy it or get a copy of it or something! I have always loved both monster catching game and survival game so this is is like a dream come true for me!🤩
i’m sure that this game isn’t for everyone but it’s still in early access and I hope that the developer is listening to the players feedback and I think everything should play out fine!👍
although I would like that they included evolution’s for the pal’s though, And as a shiny hunter myself i’m a bit disappointed that the shiny pals isn’t in a different color or types though, but besides all that, I’m going to grind the heck off out of this game for sure!😂👍
so like ark... with pokemon.
You can just put your pal on your crafting table if you want auto crafting !
21:18 Just assign pals to it
All Handiwork pals can and will do it for you
This kind of games doesn't have any special wepon combat. The focus is clearly on the pals.
