I have to say Tomb Raider Legend was one of my favs from my childhood albeit i never completed the earlier TR games i wish i did but still to this day ive never finished the Original Tomb raider games only the 2006 to 2008 era i never liked the 2013 reboot games

The music from the originals was honestly amazing. I still remember TR1, TR2, TR3 and Last Revelation themes. Can't really say that about the survivor reboot though, most of it's tracks were... Underwhelming?
The comments from fans around 13:00 brought tears to my eyes. It's so beautiful how so many people feel, independently from eachother, in a similar way as I about her. I grew up with her being a role model, even thought I didn't really understand the story of the game when I was young. A wonderful tribute from you CroftCrazy, with great narration, wonderful pacing, beautiful editing, and amazing vibe. People say Lara is a female Indiana Jones but I say she more a female James Bond. She's British, never ages, changes her face and voice and she will be loved for more then 50 years.
Good god, i remember first playing Tomb Raider (2013) on my brother's old-ass computer and just how much i loved everything about Lara. Being a little girl, seeing Lara's growth and just how badass she was in the games just really inspired me, she immediately became my first hero. It's great to see that her legacy still lives today. I adore Lara's original design. Though I think she was sexualised for purely money-making purposes, it doesn't disempower her. Lara's sexual image is just one facet of a fascinating complex character. Such a high quality video btw. Here's hoping this channel goes a long way!
exactly, Lara's original character was a female power fantasy, especially back in a time when there were almost no female leads in videogames. The idea that a woman can be strong, badass, attractive, and self-motivated isn't a bad thing - it was amazing. The idea that she needs a male parental figure to be what she is now (which isn't even an interesting iteration of her, imo) is disheartening and backwards.
The original creator agrees with you, he didn’t like the direction marketing at Eidos took her. I like original Lara and the 2013 reboot, wasn’t big on the LAU design, also the headset thing in Legend was silly, Lara should be for the most part alone and not need much help.
We can blame Eidos marketing for that. And swinging all the way the other way, Square Enix didn’t fix anything by it. We need real fans coming up with marketing ideas bc these publishers suck. Hoping Embracer takes note.
That is and will be the only game that will bring a tear in my eye in such a way - excitement, nostalgia, appreciation, and motivation. This was so good and enjoyable to watch and I loved how it brought back the old feelings and it was so nostalgic. When I first started watching this it felt so special with both the movies, games etc. in it.
Personally, I’m not a fan of the new look for Lara Croft, it just doesn’t feel like her, even in a younger perspective. In my opinion, prime Lara is Anniversary Lara.
Yes!!! OMG so much yes. I hate her new look. Her hair looks dumb; like no one has hair like that. Anniversary Lara was one of my favs. I also like Legend and Underworld. The new Lara was ok in the first game, but her voice became so monotone and bland in the latest game. It was honestly hard to listen to her talk.

Like even if they wanted to make her less curvy and less busty, that woud've been fine (even though, as a gay man, I find her empowering the way she was) but they didn't have to go and completely change her face and then with that she also became kind of timid and whiny in her approach and she lost her Lara-isms which I'm hoping they revert back a little bit because I think they changed her way too much to the point where she's basically unrecognizable.
I'm late to the party but that was an absolutely beautiful tribute. I loved every moment of it and especially that you treated all eras with respect and truly gave an overview of what makes every era of the series great and worthy without shying away from mentioning themes like Lara's questionable marketing in the 90s that still haunts the character in a way or how Angel of Darkness failed due to being rushed out. I used be call a tomboy in high school by other girls because i loved to climb trees and walls and i was kind of athletic too, but it was because i love tomb raider and i started to play when l was like 8 years old, and think it was so cool to see a woman being an adventurous and fearless, so i wanted to be like in my mind xD
i didnt knew about the time lines, i followed all the classic timeline, and when they stop the story from angel of darkeness i stop playing cuz i really was into that story they was telling
I dont need my heroes to be Relatable (trademarked) for me to be able to enjoy them, i want an escapist fantasy, which is why the ''relatable'' Lara in survivor reboot lost a great deal of charm and appeal for me, she became a rather unexciting character in my opinion. And i agree with the comments from the video suggesting that you can have a strong female character who also commands sex appeal, without the latter taking anything away from the former quality, it's just a shame that modern Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal dont agree with that premise, since they've derided the image of classic Lara ever since the 2013 reboot, primarily because of her image as a sex icon and doing everything to not allow that legacy manifest in the new games, from making her body proportions average, to being extremely conservative in crafting her wardrobe, to the extreme of not even allowing her to wear her iconic classic outfit. I hope those regressive attitudes finally start changing for the better with the unification of the timelines, but i wont be holding my breath.
I am on a TR video essay binge. 2013, Rise and Shadow we're okay games made worse by generic open world design, stale stories and buggy side missions and collectibles. Avengers was a dumpster fire. Crystal Dynamics has much to prove in my eyes. I love TR and Lara and I need this next one to push boundaries.

Lara used to be a spoiled rich girl who learned a bunch of languages and likely had private gymnastics lessons and everything under the sun. I used to get the impression that she was sort of bored and adventuring was literally an escape from her over-the-top opulent upbringing. The reboot series couldn't vibe with that and it turned into a Injure Lara A Lot Because She Needs To Have A Rough Backstory. I didn't finish it because it turned into Uncharted (crouching behind half walls to shoot things) and haven't played a newer TR game.

In the distant future, one hundred, three hundred years, a GIRL or BOY will be playing some game, modern or classic TOMB RAIDER. ( very possibly in a METAVERSE.) can you IMAGINE playing NEXT to the SMART, BRAVE, PERSISTENT, CHARMING, FASCINATING and stunningly BEAUTIFUL LARA CROFT ? congrats and many thanks for your AWESOME VID. I really love survivor lara, since all 3 timelines are connected it adds more of a human side to her or more specifically development and the reasons why she started having so many dangerous and bombastic adventures in the first place.
