  • If you want to learn where to move in Doubles, this video is for you.
In doubles, there are two key formations you need to know.
    1) Front and back, the offensive formation
    2) Side by side, the defensive formation
Additionally, there is a rotation movement that is used to add more pressure to your opponent.

I used to play as a kid. Barely ever got doubles, but really loved losing them cause it meant doing less switching around lol.
Now, as I'm trying to get back to badminton, it's all double games and the question of "where to move" is on my mind every time. Thank you for putting it out there on the internet! :)

What I observe in top matches is often when smashes from a rear partner gets returned high cross court, the front partner retreats diagonally to keep the smashing going. This is a more advanced kind of double pressure rotation. requiring high level of speed.

It's essentially the same, you just want to rotate when your partner is in front. This means he should move to a wide attack, you can hit a cross smash and then move forward.
A separate video on it would help many, so go Gerald! ;) You can do it!

@@Bgbadminton already posted it on our badminton WhatsApp group and the whole gang is excited to practice them next sunday.
Question: In 'attack position' which is the first priority position (compared to the 'defense position'), when my front guy LIFTS a shuttle at the "middle" position of the front row (front 3 positions left center and right, and back 3 positions left center and right). He lifts at Front middle position... how do I decide which side to go to (left court or right court) for our defense position?
      Thank you!

    • @GeraldOng

@@johnybrokeit This deserves a heart! the front player can return to whichever side is better for him, and the back player can react to it! This is because the back person can easily see where the front player goes while the back player can't and shouldn't turn back to see where his/her partner goes. Hope this helps Johny ;)

Great video! Very informative even for a players like myself who has been playing badminton for years. Regarding head shot. I've been trying to explain to a guy in my group not to do full arm swing smashes at opponent's face. He's doing it at the net. Can we issue him a red card? This is a casual game. Everyone else when they see someone in a vulnerable position they smash into an empty space or do something that is much safer. We rather lose the rally than cause a life changing eye injury.
I once saw a player crouch down and cover his face with the racquet and the smash was still aimed at his face. He had no chance of hitting a return because it was initially a mishit that went high above the net and he had no time to run away from the net.

Not much difference. You always want to rotate when the front court player is in the back and the back court player is in the front. If there's no preference, you can adjust your attack (wide, wedge, channel) to the situation alone. When you want to rotate, use the wide attack formation and a cross court smash as a safe option.

"Shuang Ya" is more like "full-on pressure". Both player focused on aggression only.

    • @Bgbadminton
      @Bgbadminton  5 лет назад

Yep! While editing I realized I didn't film that part :/ So the best I did was a freeze frame to illustrate the point - where instead of the front player rotating backwards, the player continues to pressure on the other side, resulting in the pair pressuring on both sides.
The back that rotated forward on one side, with the front moving to the other side, hence "Shuang Ya"
      Thanks for the comment Aason!
