For 'hard' sax playing, eg technical but still melodic and musical - you really can't exclude cannonball adderley. With an honourable mention for Chris Potter as the best contemporary living player in this particular context
Bro I wish they spoke with a Sax player before recording this because wtf😂 Man hyped up Joe Henderson then shows us a part of Curtis Fuller’s solo🤦🏾♂️
Kenny G on a hardest sax song list. Priceless 😂. Try the two Sonnys on Eternal Triangle, Earl Bostic Up there in orbit or just about anything with Michael Brecker or Joshua Redman.
Why are you showing and playing Freddie Hubbard (with all due respect to him, of course) when the segment is supposed to be about Joe Henderson? Can you not tell the difference between a saxophone and a trumpet?
@@boy_ka84 I also have to say that while Kenny G was very good at what he did, and I wouldn't mind him getting an honorable mention, Michael Brecker should have been recognized. I don't know which of his solos was the hardest, but "Peep" is one of his standouts. Just listening to that is a workout.
I'd have found a way to put Lenny Pickett's Knock Yourself Out solo from the Tower of Power album Live and in Living Color. It's got the funk, false fingering notes, and I think a bit of circular breathing too. That's a monster sax solo.
my favorite hardest saxophone song I love take the a train by James Carter and his quartet off of the album called Jurassic classics also only it was another one I just love how wild and crazy he gets on that saxophone I love the saxophone and I love jazz. and there should be a fuller version of take the a train on RUclips with that album in mind with such great songs and James Carter Hass to be one of the greatest along with Peter Brotzman or not Korman Eric Dolphy Sam rivers among so many great sock solos
While I appreciate the effort, this is a big miss for me. Hat and Beard features Dolphy on Bass Clarinet, and there is no saxophone in the original version whatsoever.
The saxophone part in Baker Street is easy enough to learn and play. I have been playing saxophones for 5 years and it was one of the first tunes I learned to play well. Raphael Ravenscroft actually played his saxophone a bit flat as he wasn't in tune when playing it.
It's a pity that you didn't give Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty even an honorable mention - that sax piece is iconic in the annals of rock music, and I'm willing to bet influenced a lot of kids of that time to pick up the saxophone themselves.
How many of you remember the Simpsons which there's an episode about Lisa Simpson gets jealous about another girl who's great with a Saxophone? She sabotages anyone who she thinks is better than her especially her siblings instead of being appreciating them
This list definitely isn't biased at all 🙄 For real, though, specify which field of music you're focusing on; jazz saxophone has its challenges that are unique to the jazz world, but there are challenging saxophone solos in the west-European classical tradition with unique challenges in that field as well, not forgetting other fields of music that use saxophone of course. Also, 11:51 says alto sax, but it's featuring him playing the bass clarinet. They really don't know what they're talking about.
Saxophone is easier to play than a flute, a flute has more wide range of pitches generally three octaves and a saxophone only has 2 1/2 octaves. *Used to play flute and clarinet, never played saxophone*
If you play flute, the fingerings are similar so that won’t be much an issue! Getting your mouth right might be a bit hard at first but it’s not that bad once you get used to it! -a sax player

I have 3 favorites, actually: Baby G (Kenny G), All I Need (Michael Paulo), and Lily Was Here (Candy Daulfer)! 🎷😉
3:21 “Deacon blues" by Steely Dan (1977)
What? No Tower of Power? 55 years later and they're still being dissed... amazing...
#2 Hat and Beard, that's not a Sax. That is a Bass Clarinet.
I know! I was laughing so hard.
And this is why Jazz is one of my top 3 favorite music genres(alongside orchestra and rock)
For 'hard' sax playing, eg technical but still melodic and musical - you really can't exclude cannonball adderley. With an honourable mention for Chris Potter as the best contemporary living player in this particular context
Hells to the yeah
Bro I wish they spoke with a Sax player before recording this because wtf😂 Man hyped up Joe Henderson then shows us a part of Curtis Fuller’s solo🤦🏾♂️
You lose all credibility for having Kenny G on this list
John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Charlie Parker, Kenny G...
I also love up there in orbit by Earl Bostic along with hand clapping by red price stock and also flying home by Joel Houston.
#2 is a bass clarinet.
At first glance, yes. If you look closer, you’ll see a bass clarinet next to the saxophone he’s playing.
Dolphin plays the bass clarinet on the track. Yes, in the still photo he’s got a sax up to his mouth but that’s a bass clarinet tune.
Great choices. I love the sax. I added some new songs to my playlists.
Kenny G on a hardest sax song list. Priceless 😂. Try the two Sonnys on Eternal Triangle, Earl Bostic Up there in orbit or just about anything with Michael Brecker or Joshua Redman.
Glad you mentioned Bostic and specifically "Up There in Orbit". No one and I mean no one on this list could have covered that song.
Anthropology!!!! Thats the gate for the up an comers!!!
Not the hardest, but the most iconic for me is Tim Capello's "I Still Believe"
Why are you showing and playing Freddie Hubbard (with all due respect to him, of course) when the segment is supposed to be about Joe Henderson? Can you not tell the difference between a saxophone and a trumpet?
Just about to say that myself bro. As of late, WatchMojo has been posting and giving us viewers a wrong and inaccurate info lately on their video.
Colin Stetson- every song he has ever made.
That's not a saxophone on Hat and Beard. It's a bass clarinet lol.
Was checking the comments to see if anyone mentioned this, but yup not a sax
Just FYI, Dolphy plays bass clarinet on "Hat and Beard", not alto saxophone
it's an alto clarinet
@@bradlinder603 Duh, and Tony Williams plays soprano drums
12:10 Showing a bass clarinet and hearing a trumpet.
I like saxophone songs 👍🎷🎼🎵🎶
Especially 3:21 “Deacon blues" by Steely Dan (1977)
I'd have found a way to put Lenny Pickett's Knock Yourself Out solo from the Tower of Power album Live and in Living Color. It's got the funk, false fingering notes, and I think a bit of circular breathing too. That's a monster sax solo.
3:00 That’s not a saxophone soloing.
THAT looks like a bass Clarinet lol.. and sounds like one.. It probably is a Bass Clarinet.
my favorite hardest saxophone song I love take the a train by James Carter and his quartet off of the album called Jurassic classics also only it was another one I just love how wild and crazy he gets on that saxophone I love the saxophone and I love jazz. and there should be a fuller version of take the a train on RUclips with that album in mind with such great songs and James Carter Hass to be one of the greatest along with Peter Brotzman or not Korman Eric Dolphy Sam rivers among so many great sock solos
Eric Dolphy played Bass clarinet on Hat and Beard, not sax!
I ❤ the saxophone! 🎷
Thanks for these videos🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thanks for all the spam
While I appreciate the effort, this is a big miss for me. Hat and Beard features Dolphy on Bass Clarinet, and there is no saxophone in the original version whatsoever.
Clarence Clemons , Saxophonist in the E Street Band . RIP . Sax in Pink Floyd 's Masterpiece , Us and Them , from Dark Side of the Moon .
No Fuzzy Bird Suite!?😭
No Candy Dulfer? "Lily Was Here" should have at least been 10.
To be honest, I was expecting you were gonna mention baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, because that is a saxophone song too you know

just....no. influential, sure. Hard? ehhhhh
It says hard in the title. So not things that you’ll find middle schoolers across the country play as a joke.
Great solo, but not difficult to play.
Hat and Beard is a bass clarinet though right? I'll have to dig out the album.....
Saxophone is the sexiest sound penetrated my ears 😂
Bishtar o bishtar_ hasan shamaizadeh
Ian McDonald sax during 21st Century Schizoid Man
bruh Hat and Beard has no saxophone on it
Damnit not again, why everytime something like in this list feels like someone's gonna say that this is a jojo reference
Herb alpert
I Litterally was watching Fa.ily Matters just before watching this
This list is for Lisa Simpson a joy.
Coltrane
How doesn't Nigeria's Fela kuti make the list🤨?
I’m guessing yakety sax is #1, also as a “professional” sax player, I approve this video
Yakety Sax anyone?
_ YOU MISSED THE EUROVISION SAX DUDE 🤣 __*
What a strange list. Not one most sax players would agree with (not that they agree on anything).

Can you do comic book origin of DC Music Meister?
Nope bot
this is easy for dreamybull
I really hope this video doesn’t blow
First clip and you can't tell the difference between a saxophone and a clarinet ?
That's a "soprano saxophone," just not bent into the classic "S" shape we're used to.
That's a soprano sax my man. It shouldn't be in this list because of how technically simple and derivative the song is however
Ha ha thought you were clever there didn't you, Muppet
This music is ancient!!! This is 2023 not the 1950's or 60's. The best sax I remember is from Baker Street and that's from 1978, 45 years ago.
You Millennials and Gen Zs are

SO glad I didn't add to your numbers.
Two words: Kenny G.
Is playing a Saxophone easy or difficult? Is it similar to playing a Flute?
