Love you man, I like naturals for dogs. My dog’s skin is not dry but she scratches constantly. She seems to be scratching all over but mostly on her rear and back of her paws. She does get fish oil tablets and live them. I don’t know what to do anymore and I refuse to drug her…which was the vet’s recommendation…..

@@Mickey-jn8hz hmm 3 years ago. I hope you found a remedy. Itching as with pain can require an intervention to break the cycle. It's as if the itching just leads to more itching. The dog will become nervous and scratch even more. It sounds to me that you have described a dog which has developed hives. Regardless,
out of mercy you should allow your doctor to do whatever it takes to give your dog relief even if it is a prescription drug. To allow your dog to suffer when there's a treatment is cruel. And no dog lover wants to be like that.
That's why you 💯 do what us best for your pooch!!

Before I changed my dogs diet and supplements, I tried cytopoint at a cost of $80 and lasts about a month. It worked fantastic but at that price I decided to work on his immune system instead. Besides immune supplement for dogs; I use fish oil ( break open a pill and squeeze it on his food) ; coconut oil added to bone broth (plain: no onions or garlic) heated then frozen in ice cube tray, then reheated to pour on food. I pierce a hole in the ends of 3 pills and sprinkle on his wet food __Tumeric; carnosine; and Taurine. Use just enough that he doesn’t turn his nose up at it. I top his food with a dusting of dehydrated buffalo liver to make it irresistible. Before I bath him, I rub Neem oil all over his skin, then anti itch shampoo and a diluted vinegar rinse. ..a lot of work but saves me $80/ month . Like the licorice idea but have not needed it so far.

My shih tzu has always suffered from scratching. Steroids and antibiotics for 11yrs and also science diet. Only worked temporary. This month my dog kept waking us up I was literally getting dark circles in my eyes. I learned how to groom her etc...did everything to stop the itching. Bath and groom wasn't enough. Even though this video is 3yrs ago. I went to the store to get curcumin and Omega-3. The second day of giving the supplements right now and my dog is sound asleep!! It worked! I'm very greatfull thank you very much!!! I was skeptical at first but it really worked. I have given her supplements from a dog pharmacy before, i compared the ingredients and they only have less than 300mg of Omega-3. This time 1000mg Omega 3 and it worked. My doggy liked the curcumin in her food, has a yellow beard but she's happy not scratching. Thank you so much.

The paws are caused by an over production of yeast . Check between your baby's toes to make sure they haven't licked sores there. I have a black lab that was born with yeast and have tried everything to stop its growth as well as everything to relieve the itch. I believe there is nothing that will relieve foot itch because anything topical you use they lick it of and it only makes the problem worse. There in my opinion is no way to cure foot yeast without an anti fungal unfortunately prescribed by the Vet and even then there is no guarantees. Luke is 8 and he gets periods where it clears up but always comes back. I find distraction is the best way . Either time in the yard a walk, gentle pressure on the itchy area. If you have a very calm and compliant dog you can try sitting their paws on a soft bag of frozen peas sounds strange but cold is a great itch reliever. Anyway I am still waiting for the miracle cure. If I find it I'll let you know.
There is nothing more heartbreaking then watching our beloved dogs chewing, tearing and licking at their feet the second they start the day. Wishing you the very best of luck.❤ By the way I'm wondering if they have yeast anywhere else on their body?

Sounds like she has PTSD and you may never be able to totally get past the damage that bass turd did😿
Being extremely patient & gentle while using positive reinforcement like her favorite treats (esp before meals when she's hungriest) and having one person handle her while a 2nd one treats/ distracts her with food & praise may help.
You can also use every single mouthful of regular food as "training treats" instead of just dumping it in a bowl.
Start by slowly petting "safe" areas and gradually moving closer until you're touching the problem areas for a split second, then praise & treat. Then one second, two seconds, etc. Going at a pace that she can handle, temporarily backing off if she starts to stress, and keeping each session short.
Working ten times a day for 5mins is much better than one 50min session.
They process lessons when asleep, so having sessions after naps can help.

@@CatesCube thank you for the comments. I know it wasn't meant for me but, I Greatly appreciate anyone kind caring&kind enough to give very helpful information to anyone willing to put that information to work for the betterment of our 4 legged friends and humans alike.
Thank you very much! I Greatly appreciate it more than you know. On another note, I read that your German shepherd has loose, wet, etc. Not sure what you are feeding it but many types of dry kibble are actually very bad&harmful for our dogs. We have been brainwashed and lied to about most big name dog food companies thinking they are great for them but most are very toxic and even deadly and over time even cause multiple types of cancers. Many actually have ground up glass and plastic in them as well as extremely dangerous chemicals. You never want to use any kibble that has colors in it or multiple colors! Just use the basic natural brown color only! Even many higher priced food has colors/dye in them. Their are several great brands that are actually good for them without costing$70.00 or more per bag. If you have a tractor supply near you, they carry an exclusive brand called "4Health" that is great and better than the brand "blue" and is about half price. "Diamond" is another great brand fairly priced as well. If you have a Rural King near you they have an exclusive brand called "Good Friends" 100% identical to "4Health" but actually more choices/flavors and "Diamond" is also carried by Rural King and both brands are considerably cheaper at Rural King! This should help you and your dog considerably. Both brands have a 100% money back guarantee so if it doesn't help your dog you can get your money back.

I have a chi-weenie, and we've tried everything except a complete allergy testing. We've changed her food, tried different probiotic chews, changed treats, aloe and oatmeal baths. I've tried the coconut oil, apoquel, Benadryl, anti-anxiety meds, and nothing seems to be helping. She constantly chews and scratches. The last trip to the vet was because she had a skin infection from all the chewing, so I don't know what else to do. She's a miniature breed, so she only weighs 6 lbs. Any suggestions?

Hi- sorry to hear this. Likely environmental allergies. Rule out mange by treating with Revolution. Then start with Krill oil, (250mg/day), along with a supplement called Betasitisterol ( used in people for high cholesterol) - 2 mg/lb twice daily may help. Also add in additional nettle/quercetin as an anti-histamine.

Hi Doc, my Keno has the same exact problem. More than any other dog I know and I give her 1000 mgs. Fish oil daily but maybe I should up it. I'll try the curcumin and licorice tinture. I started giving her Dr. Marty Goldstein allergy supplement. It contains omega 3, plant phytosterols, thymus gland substance, quercetin dihydrate, stinging nettle and salmon cartilage protector and but isn't cheap. I'm at my wits end and after a week is still chewing the feet. So I'll get back to you on the curcumin and licorice, thank you so much. Peace.

CBD oil for dogs really works well and right away. I get the 100mg bottle for $20 lasts about a month, my dog is 20 lbs. It tells you how much to use. Coconut oil on a specific hot spots too so if they lick it it's fine. We live in Florida and the pollen is continuous here so I had to find something that could be used all the time.

Hi Doc, I am not sure what it is with my Chihuahua. She does not scratch all day until about 830 at night. And it is always about the ears. I have checked her ears. They are beautiful and clean and I don’t see any problems. She does not scratch all day except for about an hour or so at night is it just normal cleaning? That she is doing for herself? I am not sure but it does annoy me because I don’t want her to be uncomfortable and because I have to listen to it.

Dr. Jones, I REALLY hope you will reply to this post. Went to the health food store today & got all 3 to give to my 27.6 pound Corgi, Frostie, who has been scratching & biting at herself for 2 weeks. Benadryl did nothing for her. Starting bathing her once a week with Virbac Epi-Soothe shampoo & rinse PLUS wiping her down with baby wipes anytime she had been outside with little results. Her vet gave us Hydroxyzine 50mg & still did nothing for her. I went to a health food store in out next town (we live in the country) & bought all 3 products ($103 later..). Gave her the 1st dose around noon today. She hasn't even gotten her 2nd dose yet & she has LITERALLY almost stopped scratching (it's 7:25pm now). I cannot get over the impact it has had so far! My question is when it comes to the licorice, if I stop at 3 days....do I continue to just give the fish oil & curcumin? **PLEASE SUGGEST** It's working & I would like to continue. But for how long?

    • @VeterinarySecrets
      @VeterinarySecrets  5 лет назад +1

Hey Terri. Glad to hear Frostie's feeling better! Yes, you may continue incorporating 1000mg/10lbs once a day of fatty acids (fish/flax oil) for long term use (2-3 months or so). Curcumin, 100mg/10lbs once a day.

Hi again. I have a question. I heard about Tulsi Basil (also known as Holy Basil)and I have used it as well for myself. But I looked up if it can be used for my dog Buster to help him with his itchiness and also for his inflammation and his body starting to have problems with mobility. I found out he (I can't remember the name or how to spell it) will loose mobility in his back legs first and then it will move up his spine and cause him to not be able to walk and possibly die from this. His tail goes limp and also when he walks his back paws drag the floor. I read how Tulsi Basil can help him. Do you know anything on it? Is it okay to use for my dog? He also was born with seizures and I use V-C on him when he has a seizure and it stops almost immediately. I know for a fact it works. I have been using Vitamin C for over 2 years on him and his seizures have almost if not completely stopped. But now I am dealing with his mobility issues.
I really am not my best today at typing because my eyes are swollen from crying. I lost one of my dogs yesterday because of Pyometra . So I hope I didn't confuse you and my typing was ok. Hard to see screen. But would love your feed back on the Tulsi Basil . Thanks.

Crafting Patty maybe you can try organic CBD oil it's a cannabis oil that doesn't make you high but has a lot of healing benefits. I saw it on Instagram one guy gave it to a dog who collapsed after a seizure and went into a coma. He put it under the dogs tongue and after 40 min the dog became conscious. The got better and better as he continued to use it 2-3 times a day. You need only a few drops but you best google it. The oil is also anti-inflammatory and there is a story on internet that a UK lady treated her breast cancer with 100% success. Just try natural things and research if anything else can help.If you do you best, hopefully your dog we'll get better. That is all we can do really. All the best😊 ❤❤

Crafting Patty sorry for ur loss, I know ur asking about basil, but my pom was very allergic to any flea product she ended up with hotspots and through her scratching they were bleeding what I did is take apple cider vinegar with some water in a spray bottle every couple hours I was just spray her down and pet her dry in front of a fan, in two weeks her skin was totally healed up! I've have her on Trifexis now for flea prevention, it works for her, ( but my main point was the apple cider vinegar with water in a spray bottle) even her groomer was wondering how I got her healed up in a couple weeks

A ping pong ball sized skin tag? Are you sure that's not a tick? If it's round and black or dark in color, that could be an oversized tick. Skin tags usually don't get that big (as far as I know). If you can't figure out what it might be, I would take your pup to the vet. If it is a tick you may want a pro to remove it, since the head of the tick can still remain embedded in the skin after removal. Worst case it could be an abnormal growth. Hope the best for you and your pup :)
