As for the A Whole New World in the 2019 version, it lacks what made the 1992 version work *phenomenally* well, which is the characters quickly flying on the Magic Carpet to many perfectly animated (even by Disney Renaissance standards) locations around the world where the remake, on the other hand, only has Aladdin, Jasmine and the carpet fly on top of Agrabah, and it depends on Your view whether it can be considered a decent thing or not.

Siskel often seemed to have a problem imagining that the songs from then-contemporary musicals would eventually BECOME classics. As Ebert responded on another review to such a criticism, sometimes you have to listen to a song 2 or 3 times before you know if it's memorable or not.

The songs from Aladdin are some of the best of any animated film Disney has ever produced. The film itself rivals The Lion King as the best of the Disney Renaissance.
As for Robin Williams, I am in complete agreement. He was the first celebrity casting in an animated role, and, totally unsurprisingly, considering it is Robin Williams, still the best. I don't think any of the countless celebrity castings in the last 30 years has ever equalled him in Aladdin. What an extraordinary accomplishment. Well done, sir. Well done, wherever your are. Caught that too, but the culture was so different back then. Prior to Aladdin, there was The Little Mermaid and Beauty & The Beast, which ushered in the new Disney princess renaissance. Disney was at a lucrative point where they were making brilliant movies for little girls that made a fortune. Aladdin was suddenly the first "new" Disney movie that really focused on prince charming instead of the princess (even though the Genie stole the show).
I don't know if it was just a shock to the system for Siskel in light of the last two movies or if he was just being a beta wimp. I also don't understand why The Rescuers Down Under is always somehow forgotten with this period, which was an equally great movie that's never mentioned alongside Mermaid/Beauty/Aladdin/Lion King.

I had mixed feelings about Robin Williams's impersonations when I first saw the movie. On one hand, I was laughing right along with everyone else in the theater. On the other hand, I was asking myself, "Aren't Disney movies supposed to be timeless? This will get outdated someday." Even back then it was predictable. I like the movie but I always blamed it as the starting point for all the lame pop culture reference jokes in animated movies in the early to mid 2000's.
