  • This Bible study devotional covers Psalm 22. In this passage, David asks why it seems like God has abandoned him.
As always, we are committed to showing you how to see the good news of the Gospel in every passage of Scripture. In Psalm 22, see the words Jesus cried out on the cross and the truth that because Jesus was abandoned for us, we will never be abandoned by God.

Repent of your sins and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ that has died for sins and rose from the tomb on the third day and let the Holy Spirit within you, and you shall be saved.

What is so beautiful is that Jesus spoke Psalm 22:1 knowing the whole Psalm and that it’s a Psalm of victory. When he spoke those words, the other Jews present would be able to finish that Psalm. For example, if I said, “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound..,” you would finish the lyrics. God’s intentionality and sovereignty is so awesome. Jesus is God, the 2nd Person of the Trinity… this is so very important. Grateful to be His. #Gal220

Amen. When I found out that Jesus quoted Psalms 22, it blew my mind, especially when you read the whole chapter - "mighty bulls of Bashan surround me", yet there were no 'literal' cows/bulls present; it gets deep.

    Psalm 22
Here we find David in the greatest affliction. Hence the famous exclamation, which was afterward repeated by the Christian Savior in a similar situation: Eli, eli, lama sabachthani? My El, my El, why hast thou forsaken me? why dost not thou help me? why so far from the words of my roaring? Thus, David addressed the winter (El), but not for help, because, as he well knew, he might have cried both night and day, as he said he did, to the Elohim, who were far distant from him, without obtaining help until spring came - " thou hearest not." Hence, he prayed to Elohim prospectively, believing that when he could make them hear, help or summer would come. But while praising the Holy One of Israel (summer Sun), his mind suddenly reverted to his low condition, whence he exclaimed: "But I am a worm and not a man;" thus happily comparing his situation (that of the Sun in winter) to a worm in its chrysalid state during the winter. " He rolled on the Lord " (marginal reading), i.e., the Sun rolled through the heavens as we daily see it, and trusted that the Lord would at length bring him into the summer hemisphere.
"Thou art he that took me out of the womb (of winter), and didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts (shadi, the word so frequently translated Almighty). David, Christ, Ganymede (Joy-promoter), and many other Gods, were born at the winter solstice, where they were all, David among them, placed upon their mother’s lap. Hence David (vs. 10) says, "Thou art my God (my El) from my mother's belly" -mid-winter. Don't go off, for trouble is near, and there is none to help (vs. 11). Many strong bulls of Bashan have compassed me around. The dogs (Canis major and minor) have beset me (are come around opposite me): I am poured out like water, my strength is dried up, and I can count my bones (ribs). They part my garments among them, and cast lots (gamble, as the "bulls and bears" still do) upon my vesture (the crops).
But, O my Lord, O my strength, haste thee to help me! My only one, deliver me from the dog, save me from the Lion's mouth (Leo roars as a lion), for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns (the constellation Taurus). Then, Oh, then, will I praise thee in the midst of the congregation (the seven summer months), and show a line crop! Yes, then will I praise thee, and the meek (the people in winter) shall eat and be satisfied - filled.
Bashan aka House of the Sun = "Summer," = spring equinox (River Jordan) to the autumn equinox (River Euphratess).

So why dud Jesus say that?
Can someone explain in a more straightforward way?
I have seen multiple videos in this subject and I can't seem to find a simple answer why Yeshua said that?

This is a psalm of Victory. Jesus Started this psalm because of the physical condition(Pain and Suffering) he was in at the time, but the same Jesus That started this, already knew the ending of the psalm. Meaning that Jesus knew that GOD will eventually save him from that present Condition, just as GOD saved David.

It's about a future person from the line of King David born in sin. Psalm 51:5-10. It's not about Jesus either but someone who has a dream about Jesus psalm 17 verse 3 and 15

    Mother of Jesus.
The "mother" of Jesus, is depicted with a palm frond in her right hand (summer aka six days/months Genesis one) and wheat in her left hand (winter aka six nights/months Genesis one). The wheat and star spica represent the harvested crops which are to be shared during the winter season of hardship. She has a slight turn to her head which symbols her concern for those "left behind." Yes, she is the wife of Lot, the hidden one.
See Isaiah 9.14, where we find the head (Leo), tail (Scorpio), branch/palm frond (Virgo), and the reed/rush/river-grass (Libra). Libra the first southern constellation is also called Medad (water lover). Medad (Libra) is opposite Eldad (Ram lover) aka Aries.
    Eldad = six days/signs and Medad = six nights/signs.
We, in the northern hemisphere, will be saved from sin (winter - sun’s south declination) on 20 March 2022. The sun will pass over from winter (Hell) into summer (Heaven).
The dead will rise from their graves (winter/Sheol) and go into the New Jerusalem (sun in northern hemisphere). The Messiah, Isaiah (the spring Sun), will take vengeance - will not meet thee as a man (the barren Earth in winter aka six nights of Genesis one), but as a woman (the productive Earth in summer) aka six days/months of Genesis one.
On 22 September 2022, we in the northern hemisphere, will become sinners for six months (six nights in Gen.1). aka darkness greater than light.
