Remember, he went through this same thing a couple of years prior to this when Tina admitted on the witness stand at her murder trial that Al was not his baby but Max's (and Gabrielle's). Maybe he just doesn't want to see another man go through that. And the timing, well as bad as it is -- the truth still has to come out. Besides, it is much more dramatic this way LOL
