My favorite, and the first one I saw, SkullGraymon, which showed that Digivolutions can go horribly, horribly wrong, and also showed Tai's lack of impulse control at the time.
The more a season matures, the more darker the Dark Digivolutions get (SkullGreymon to the corrupted MetalGreymon variant, then Megidramon and Ophanimon/Raguelmon's future, and then DoneDevimon was just terrible). Let's hope the next season after the 2020 reboot's English dub and Ghost Game doesn't make things even more disturbing then they're allowed to.
Megidramon - Digimon Tamers watching him nearly tear Beelzemon apart & Destory The Digital World was terrifying as a kid, especially since you never saw a Digimon season as serious as Tamers.
The first time Gammamon digivolved into Gulus was pretty chilling. Then we went for weeks without any sign of it happening again, so I wasn’t expecting it until about 5 seconds before Gamma woke up and literally fed Arachnemon a Desdemona. And then the episode with Pixiemon, where he went back in time to erase Gammamon, only to come back looking like he lost a fight with an oven.😂
The dark evolution from adv 2020 is my favourite in the series because it shows how much Agumon cares for Tai, that seeing his partner get eaten alive makes him so angry that he loses his mind. That scene and the one that Agumon breaks out of the machindramon/mugendramon shell crying as he reaches out to Tai brings tears to my eyes because it's the best written example I've ever seen of showing how much a digimon loves their partner without saying it.
Yes and no in a way. Tai was trying to force Agumon to Digivolve to ultimate because he thought he was the only one who could destroy Etemon. With Takato he forced WarGrowlmon to Dark Digivolve out of revenge and hatred towards Beelzemon for killing Leomon.
The Skullgreymon digivolution sticks with me even today, the sweet Agumon turned into a killing machine and even targeted his tamer. Megidramon though, damn. The whole scene was emotional with Leomons death but to see my favourite Digimon, the sweet and innocent Guilmon turned into a vicious blood thirsty monster was haunting. To top it off Megidramon is a Digital Hazard, his mere existence will destroy the digital world.
Not sure if it really counts, but I'd say GulusGammamon becoming Regulusmon deserves an honorable mention just off of the pure shock factor of a Dark Digivolution then proceeding to Digivolve _further._ There's also how he's apparently on par with Megidramon... you know... the same one that was tearing the Digital World at the seams just by existing... yeah, kinda scary.
I've always loved the little detail of Galus' evo sequence pausing mid-transformation. It's like a program that hangs for a second before proceeding and since that has NEVER happened before it just hammers in the 'wrongness' of the evolution.
Digimon and Power Rangers Were Saban Entertainment's Scooby Doo and Flintstones and It made me angry when Disney treated them like a afterthought I miss Fox Kids

Well, I had the top 3, but not exactly in your order. Ruin Mode will always be the most shocking to me, Skullgreymon the most nostalgic and Megidramon the fan's reaction to a well known, if sad, running gag to me.
I will say your line about meicrackmon not befriending anymore humans is a bit false as in the final episode of ghost game during the epilogue segment it shows meicrackmon on a rooftop watching riku from afar

Gulusgammamon is perhaps the best smartest coolest most sapient and self-aware dark evolution digimon in digimon anime history unlike other dark evolution digimon like skullgreymon megidramon and shinegreymon ruin mode GulusGammamon is not mere berserker he is fully capable of reasoning thinking and speeches and he even has his own individual goal motive and idea
What's unique is the character being separate entity rather than an alter ego like his other forms. Shame it took almost the whole series of Ghost Game to confirm that.

I'd put some of these in the same spot, since it's just the tamer sending rage to the digimon and ending up with a berserk evolution, i think Gulusgammamon and Ordinemon are the most interesting. Gulus is a different type of evil, it's intelligent and has it's own objectives, not to mention extremely powerfull, a champion capable of stomping ultimates that even ended up evolving himself. And Ordinemon, not only Ophanimon FM was good enough by forcefully evolving after receiving absolute despair from Hikari, but even ended up fusing with another fallen angel , the brightest the light the deepest the darkness.
Gulusgammamon is gammamon true champion form the other are just deviation it was gulus body in the first place but in his official profile it stated that among champion he one of the more powerful to the point he can take down ultimate level digimon while his evolution regulasmon is as powerful as megiadramon aka guilmon dark mega then gulus mega arcturusmon is one of the most powerful mega and only exist in a simulation and then their the jogress of arcturusmon and Siriusmon called proximamon which is basically a god of creation and destruction

Maybe Arcturusmon will show up in a Ghost Game movie or OVA now that Gulus is _sorta_ tamed? Could happen if they fight against the thing that _supposedly_ chased Gulus off of his home planet, and it could even lead to a bit of Proximamon. Maybe just a bit of a teaser, given how his weapon relies on another Digimon entirely being around and so he wouldn't be complete anyway.
App Monsters and Ghost Game are by far the only Digimon shows not to be dubbed into english. That is due to the franchise undergoing a decline, especially in the West. According to RebelTaxi the constant rebooting and repetitive switch in TV channels caused its viewership to drop in U.S. The Digimon Adventure reboot and the Tri. movie trilogy atleast were dubbed into english.
Personally, i think the skullgreymon scene was at number 2 simply because it was the first. I say this cuz I think the animation, voice acting (at least in that scene) and characterization was off. While the megidramon scene had better animation and while the anger was a bit out of character, the voice actor conveyed his explosive and seething anger without slipping out of the voice

I actually just checked Hulu and Digimon Adventure 1 and 2, Tamers, and Frontier are still on there. Even checked the list of shows and movies that were leaving Hulu and none of the Digimon seasons were on there.

I'm pretty sure Ordinemon is an Ultra Level dark digivolution, and as far no Rookie Level dark digivolutions, no tamer, not even the Digimon Emperor is that ruthless, and no In-Training II would survive the abuse.

And who says you need to be cruel to trigger the Dark Digivolution? There are other Methods in Digimon like Miasma and other stuff. Digimon can sometimes be really dark. Do you really believe they wouldnt try it? After all Tamers was pretty dark and there is also Death Evolution too. So even if the Rookie would die, there would be a Possible Death Evolution or Dark Evolution or both combined.
There’s one thing I don’t like about ghost gamer, and the 2020 digimon adventures is that there was no plot. There was no story no nothing. Where are you going to the key aspect to all the previous Digimon series was gone
This is why I love digimon as an anime, that darkside that the leader has to overcome, in order to become a great leader. This is why I am not a fan of davis from 02 & mikey from xros wars/fusion 😤
You can definitely see that digimon was a huge inspiration to the furry fandom, but who can blame em people love humanoid animal characters regardless of whether or not they admit It.
Dark Digivolution is a horrible thing. It comes from many negative emotions from Digimon and from Tamers. We have to be responsible to not let such emotions take control of us.

You can definitely see that digimon was a huge inspiration to the furry fandom, but who can blame em people love humanoid animal characters regardless of whether or not they admit It.
Dark Digivolution is a horrible thing. It comes from many negative emotions from Digimon and from Tamers. We have to be responsible to not let such emotions take control of us.
