- Government of Guyana Sends Hurricane Beryl Relief Supplies to St. Vincent and the Grenadines
The Government of Guyana, through the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), has dispatched a large shipment of Hurricane Beryl relief supplies to St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The supplies are being transported by the MV Hien, a privately owned vessel contracted to deliver the aid in response to the severe impact of the hurricane across the Caribbean. The MV Hien departed local waters at approximately 18:00 hrs (6 pm) on Sunday, July 7, 2024, and is expected to arrive at its destination on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
The shipment includes various essential resources accumulated based on a Needs List provided by the impacted Caribbean Community (CARICOM) nation. Prior to this, an initial relief package was delivered to Grenada by a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) aircraft several days ago.
Some of the items being sent to St. Vincent and the Grenadines include:
Pumpkin
Cassava
Milk
Peanut butter
Tarpaulin
Batteries and battery chargers
Solar fans and lamps
Mattresses
Pillows
Clothing
Sanitary products
Hygienic items
First aid kits
Power tools
Zinc
Lumber
Doors
Generators
Water tanks
Safety vests
These items were acquired through a collaborative effort involving the Government of Guyana, the Private Sector Commission, and local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will officially receive these items at their Port Kingstown location. CARICOM and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) are coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure safety and security during the ongoing hurricane season. The Guyana Government has committed to providing aid and support consistently as needed.
This initiative underscores the solidarity and cooperation within the Caribbean region, with Guyana playing a proactive role in disaster relief efforts to help neighboring nations in times of crisis. Join this channel to get access to perks:
