Is he a good guy, a bad guy, neither? Also Bonnie. Her intro was so well done. I thought she was vain but iconic. I thought Her character trait of attention seeking was a funny flaw or baseless gag. Their back story broke something inside of me. Kuma never caught a brake his whole life still he took on others pain as his own, and unquestioningly fighting for their freedom. His dedication as a father is beautiful. Bonnie’s similar dedication is also remarkable. The fact that her intial funny gag turned out to be a deep desire to be seen by her father, each time she desired the front page was a desperate Move for connection. God. Oda does such an amazing job with giving characters especially female characters surface level flaws that actually turn out to be excellent representations of their internal ethos and exemplary character. Another great example is Nami who’s shown to be shrewd and controlling. We later get to see that this is her way of protecting and caring for her crew. Her love of money, is a desire to create degrees of safety and freedom that unfortunately only money can allow. She loves money because she loves and wants to take care of the people she cares about.
