Laura, I'm following your channel for a little while. And I really need to share with you the love I'm feeling. I am a girl from Brazil, and in many moments of my life I felt alone because I like to be creative and do some crazy things, crazy projects, but I also like technology a lot and because I'm an engineer people expect some level of "sererity" in my behavior during graduation I studied about big names in technology, people who made the difference, people who changed the world. but I've never been able to identify with them and say "that's it !! this is what I want to be when I grow up !!!!" I knew your channel through Simone's channel, and since then I've devoured all the wonderful content that you've put here, just like I always did with Simone's. you two showed me a way, an alternative, a light! every time I see you realizing your ideas, giving life to your projects, that forces me to build mine too !! one of my favorite videos is your interview with simone on the board "what makes a maker", from the moment I watched, a lot has changed here inside me, I feel like I'm not alone! Others around us usually don’t understand that. We, often don’t understand that. It’s just who we are. This online maker community is the best thing that has happened to most of us. My grandfather taught German at the college level for a few prestigious institutions and sadly the only thing I remember is schweiß Füße. He has been gone for a number of years but this video brought back very clear memories of my beloved grandpa Chick. He bathed all summer in the pond next to my house with his life bouy soap and a tattered brown towel until the day he died. I was at his swimming spot recently and it has started to grow over, but the path to it is worn deeply into the bank of the pond by over 50 years of use. I am pretty sure you would have liked my grandpa, and I know he would have thought you were pretty awesome too.
From rough as guts, with screws sticking out and stamping on things to get it to fit, to something that looks roomy and comfortable. Well, comfortable when you get the wood burner in! Looks amazing! Keep it up Laura!!
As a german, I'm very happy that you use English for your format. It fits much more perfectly (apart from the larger potential community). I also like the way you approach things, it looked very professional. Keep going.
Something functional that comes from materials that were not intended for the purpose are my favourite kind of project. With someone else filming, it was great to see how much of a helper Smudo is as well!
hi Laura, For more safety you can fix the plastic top to the metal chassis with some rivets along the lower edge of the plastic bin. And surely, later you'll fix the shower terminal to the great cap in the middle of the roof. What a great gift you have received from your neighbour: that policarbonate plate, here in italy cost around 50 euros or more (of course it depend on the thickness) per square meter! i'll see you on the next videos. Any rot resistant wood would do Redwood or Cypress or Teak or Ipe ( E pay ) liked used on outside or manmade decking as short as the shower bay is it could probley be made from cut off salvage pieces
It reminded me of the shower I had at my grandmother's house in the interior of Minas Gerais. the shower was a bucket where hot water was placed. You gave me salutations now ... 😀 Me lembrou o chuveiro que tinha na casa da minha avó, no interior de Minas Gerais. a ducha era um balde onde se colocava água quente. Me deu saldades agora...😀
Here in Portugal we use these containers all the time but.... we put one on top the other way around so it holds the (rain) water, paint it black and... within a few hours you got free hot water. (I myself just use a 15 liter antique bucket with a showerhead attached that is filled by a black hose on the roof). But the idea is simple and nice...

At my aunt&uncle's place in France, we made a solar hot shower. Piece of board of about 1m square, paint black (or black plastic over it), then make a spiral of black plastic garden hose over it, then a glass pane (in this case, an old window). Tilt the whole set such that it is at right angle with the (morning) sun. Connect one end to the cold water supply, other end to the hot feed of a shower tap (and connect the cold side to cold water as well!) About 15 minutes of sun was enough for a 3 or so minute shower, but if you let it heat up longer, the water was so hot you needed to add cold water. So you could do longer with the warm water.
Stove? Laura, you need a solar water heater! Just coil up some black tubing where it’s exposed to the sun- somewhere above the shower. Even a bucket painted black might do the job in summer. One piece of advice: Put some kind of caps on those vertical tubes (the cut tubes that were part of the water tank frame). Otherwise, they will fill up with water and the frame will rust out from the inside. You could stick little corks or pieces of rubber in the openings, or fill them with silicone caulk or that spray-in construction foam that comes in a can. Maybe you already did this, but I didn’t see it in the video.
ok, now i feel like you could pratically build an entire tiny house? i'm currently studying on that for my thesis. Imagine building a tiny house community with some friends, that'd be ecological as well. I'm jealous of your innovation ;)
If you aren't already familiar (and haven't started on the water heater yet) I recommend taking a look at donkey boilers, I learned about them under the name "tabasco donkey" I've used one that was every bit of 50 years old, and as far as I know never had maintenance beyond a chlorine shock treatment at the beginning of the season and being drained at the end of the season,
Hi Laura! You could use sun to heat the water. Black metal reservoir on top of the shop would be sufficient. Just like the camping solar shower pouches. :)

I like the new video format. It's also nice to know that even the greatest makers have to use alignment calibration tools (hammers) and squint and pull funny faces when using power tools :) Guessing you might go for some kind of coiled copper tubing heat exchanger for heating the water?

Really looking forward to the heated water part! I was thinking of making an off grid shower using a rocket stove to heat up the water. By the way maybe you can recirculate the water somewhat to conserve water and reduce the amount needed to heat? There are some solutions out there like this (developed first for space ships).

yes ,nice project .You dont need wooden walls all the way - only from shoulders to the knees . The rest can be remains of roof plastic or open .Water in black container or hose will get warm in the sun during summer .Good luck with your new shop . Love your enthusiasm . Black plastic irragation line would be perfect layed out in a coil on the roof would be perfect but I would suggest a hot and cold water mixing vavle in case it works too good
This would be extra cool if it were collapsible/portable. Perhaps with enough support to put a second tote on top for water? A two pallet, quick set up shower system.
Small piece of critics: For this kind of showers it is better to make their height as small as possible as whole volume has to be heated very fast by hot water. Walls should be water and especially wind isolated as in windy weather it will be too cold. Best option that I have found is linoleum that is chip and stapler can be used to fixate it in minutes.
You'd be surprised how hot water can get from just 150ft of black garden hose and the sun. Even if you want the stove for non-sunny days consider solar...
You could make it a solar heated shower with a panel of black abs plastic pipe. I’ve seen videos of people making them to heat pools. Also on the base maybe get some more of those cement tiles you used for the foundation. Would be less slippery than a plastic base.
We used to build something similar from thick walled PVC pipe, 1/2" wood slats for a floor and 5 gallon water containers overhead, or 35 gallon trash cans with a small water pump, and for luxury use a small water heater. They were great for camping because they disassembled easily for travel. Build it in an hour, assemble / disassemble in 5 minutes.
You can get a tankless electric shower head cheap if you have a way to run electricity to you shower. I am building something similar but for inside my house. You might also want to put a wooden floor in the bottom so you are not standing on slippery plastic.
It very common her in greece for people to have a outdoor shower so they can rinse off when they get back from the beach. I'm looking forward to see how you heat your water. Because I don't like cold showers iver.

I'm sorry you had to leave your previous shop after such a short time. You did a lot of work to fix it up. Last week when you described your bin storage system as being for a new studio, I felt like I'd missed an episode -- what new studio? Maybe I DID miss something -- I'm surprised you haven't talked about this move more. Ordinarily I'd say your financial arrangements are none of our business, but did you buy this new studio, or are you renting? The reason I asked is that you just drilled a bunch of holes in an OUTSIDE wall. The kind of wall the water is not supposed to come through. If you ARE renting, I hope you had the owner's permission! Good luck finishing the shower. I'll be interested to see what you do about the door. I guess you could make it out of pallet wood like the walls, with a classic Z brace holding it together. I also hope no Peeping Toms have access to the property -- there are some pretty big cracks between the boards in the wall.

I like this style of start with a general idea of what you want, then make it up as you go building. This is how most of my projects go.

You could make it a solar heated shower with a panel of black abs plastic pipe. I’ve seen videos of people making them to heat pools. Also on the base maybe get some more of those cement tiles you used for the foundation. Would be less slippery than a plastic base.

We have a Zodi propane camp shower that works really well. We have to jail water in buckets, running water would be better.

We used to build something similar from thick walled PVC pipe, 1/2" wood slats for a floor and 5 gallon water containers overhead, or 35 gallon trash cans with a small water pump, and for luxury use a small water heater. They were great for camping because they disassembled easily for travel. Build it in an hour, assemble / disassemble in 5 minutes.

You can get a tankless electric shower head cheap if you have a way to run electricity to you shower. I am building something similar but for inside my house. You might also want to put a wooden floor in the bottom so you are not standing on slippery plastic.
It very common her in greece for people to have a outdoor shower so they can rinse off when they get back from the beach. I'm looking forward to see how you heat your water. Because I don't like cold showers iver.

It takes me a great deal of effort and planning to reorganize my shop but you seem to have the energy to relocate your entire shop several times. May I ask, what brand of coffee you drink and how much? I think perhaps it’s your creativity that motivates you to this unlimited energy. I'm sorry you had to leave your previous shop after such a short time. You did a lot of work to fix it up. Last week when you described your bin storage system as being for a new studio, I felt like I'd missed an episode -- what new studio? Maybe I DID miss something -- I'm surprised you haven't talked about this move more. Ordinarily I'd say your financial arrangements are none of our business, but did you buy this new studio, or are you renting? The reason I asked is that you just drilled a bunch of holes in an OUTSIDE wall. The kind of wall the water is not supposed to come through. If you ARE renting, I hope you had the owner's permission! Good luck finishing the shower. I'll be interested to see what you do about the door. I guess you could make it out of pallet wood like the walls, with a classic Z brace holding it together. I also hope no Peeping Toms have access to the property -- there are some pretty big cracks between the boards in the wall.
