    The word racist doesn't exactly mean xenophobia, which often shows as mistrust of foreigners. Such person can be also racist, but that behavior you mentioned doesn't alone show racism, just a phobic person. People with failing memory can sometimes become phobic and suspicious about anything or anybody. It is a symptom of their sickness. So I wouldn't label them racists so fast.

    • @ireneto
      @ireneto  2 года назад

      Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to inherited attributes and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another.
      It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity. Modern variants of racism are often based in social perceptions of biological differences between peoples. These views can take the form of social actions, practices or beliefs, or political systems in which different races are ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable traits, abilities, or qualities. Wikipedia
      Unfortunately for more than 5 years of taking good care of that patient, I can say that she's a racist.
      As I have mentioned earlier, we take care of our patients professionally, regardless of their personal beliefs.
      Showing respect goes a long way. ❤️

    • @just42tube
      @just42tube 2 года назад

      @@ireneto But you spoke about foreigners, which means being from other country and doesn't have really anything to do with human sub race ideology concept, where Homo Sapiens is divided to sub races based on irrelevant features like skin tones.
      Racism is political terminology, used in some countries for political reasons to divide and to oppress.
      Some have tried to extend this same evil approach and use of terminology to create ethnic tension and hostilities.

    • @just42tube
      @just42tube 2 года назад

      @@ireneto You're correct racism is an extremely stretched political word which has lost any true meaning and is also used as a swear word without any really useful exact meaning.
      The layers of meanings that have been attached to it have made it obscure and the only true content it has left is that it is negative and divisive, which was also the original purpose of racist ideology.
      People who use the word indirectly support racist ideology even though they claim to not be racists.
      Racism hasn't always been about superiority, but it has always been about division. Dividing people opens the door for ideas about superiority.
      I know I am in the minority with this thinking, but I believe using racist terminology gives support to racism or anyway to dividing ideologies. I would like to use more useful and precise terminologies, which don't have some much other historical meanings and political baggages. Ethnicity, which mostly is about culture and not genetics, connected to race concept is extremely foggy thinking. People talk about ethnic racism, because they either don't understand the basic concepts or just don't have better terminology and use what they have, broken or not.
      Often this is political talk, which means they try to effect or convince people by provoking emotions. They don't care, if what they say makes really sense, if it only gives the effect they want.
      Politics isn't about being factually right, unfortunately.

    • @just42tube
      @just42tube 2 года назад

      @@ireneto Do you realize that giving stereotypical description of some groups like Finn's in Social Media is by that very broad definition of racism also very likely a sign of racism?
      Many RUclipsrs are racists by that definition.

    • @ireneto
      @ireneto  2 года назад

      And you accusing some youtubers of being racist is racism. This will be a cycle.
      This topic is debatable which is really not my thing. I dont really care about winning an argument. If that will make you happy, i can give that to you. I just want to make things clear here. I didn't say that Finns are racists.
      I can see that you are provoked with the R word. I dont know where you're coming from but i respect your beliefs and opinions.
      We have to be careful with the terminologies, yes i agree. Thanks for enlightening me.

    Those patients in the nursing home most likely are there because of some advance problems.
    You mentioned memory problems.
    Memory problems are typically one of the first signs of cognitive impairment related to Alzheimer’s disease. Decline in non-memory aspects of cognition, such as word-finding, vision/spatial issues, and impaired reasoning or judgment, may also signal the very early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. And some people may be diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. As the disease progresses, people experience greater memory loss and other cognitive difficulties.
    If you think about that symptom "impaired reasoning or judgment" and a situation where a patient doesn't want foreigners to help her.
    Wouldn't you think as I would, that it is likely to be a symptom of the sickness?
    I know cases where a patient has become very suspicious about just about anyone, accusing them stealing something or saying that others are planning something or demanding to get back to home etc. Such situations can become difficult for everyone. Patient is in constant fear or distressed. Everyone else has to somehow try to handle patients various delusions.

    • @ireneto
      @ireneto  2 года назад +5

      Hi just42tube! You have a point. Yes that might be the case for some. However, for the longest time that we took care of that patient, she really doesnt like foreigners and thinks of her self, her race, superior of other races. It's just that her view regarding us, foreign nurses taking care of her, changed when she got to know us. Don't worry we take care of our patients professionally, regardless of their personal beliefs. 🥰

    • @just42tube
      @just42tube 2 года назад

      @@ireneto The history of the human race concept is full of bad pseudo science type and purposefully politically motivated thinking. It has been from the biological point of view been proven to be nonsense. Nowadays the word racists is used almost randomly to label any thinking or person that doesn't like what some group does.
      It can be so simple that somebody is afraid that immigrants take jobs that otherwise might take some local people, who would demand higher salary or be less good. Just being worried about additional competition of jobs in the labor market can mean you get labeled racist. I find it is counter productive to say that such a person is racist just because she or he has largely misinformed opinions.
      I am also worried that even just the use of the word racist or racisms actual gives the impression that human races really exist and gives support to this racist ideology. USA is a prime example of a utterly racist system where people need to place themselves to some race category and therefore accept the basis of racist ideology and division of society.
      But we are in Finland, where nobody is forced to accept racist ideology or even the false claims about human races.
      So, I don't accept that you are of a different race than I am.
      You look a bit different from me, but so does almost everyone else too. Finns have very a distinct genetic heritage separating us from the other European populations to our own group. But we are still Homo Sapiens, not different enough to be a different race.
      Sure their area misinformed, evil or simply stupid people in Finland, who have ideas or fantasies of superiority. There are also racists, fascists, ... all kinds of people exist.
      They exist everywhere. There are also political movements trying to emphasize nationalistic interest for political purposes. Finland and Finns have a history of conflicts with neighbors. Foreign invaders have been a constant worry throughout history. It has left a mark to the population. They might like foreigners a lot, but in the background there are the concerns of invasion and depression. I wouldn't call this racism. I would call it national survival instincts. And as instincts often are, it can be easily misdirected to react to events that aren't invasions at all and find unfortunate forms.
