Zestimate Accuracy - Is The Zillow Zestimate Right?

Ah, the Zillow Zestimate... is it right? Will is forecast your homes value accurately?
Well... kinda. And kinda not.
Basically, the Zillow Zestimate is a great indicator of the BALLPARK your homes value is in. It's not a good indicator of what exactly you could list your home for, though.
The best way to think about the accuracy of the Zestimate is like if your home's value was hidden under a blank (weird analogy, but stick with me). If it's under a blanket, you can get an idea of its shape and if it's moving, but you can't see the details.
So, if you're starting to look at selling your home, then the Zestimate might be a good indicator of if the value is around what you're inspecting. But, it's not fully accurate. Even Zillow itself admits that!
If you hop on over to www.zillow.com... you'll see their error reporting statistic. (Which is an incredible move on their part) Zillow is openly and honestly sharing with you that their Zestimate is not 100% accurate and is only a tool to help you get an idea of the value.
What Zillow has done with the Zestimate is great! Because, before the Zestimate, it was extremely difficult to get some sort of idea of the value of your home in an instant.
So, all in all, the Zestimate is not fully accurate, but it's going to give you a good ballpark idea of your homes value.
Use it as a starting point, and then contact a realtor to help you get a solid idea of what your home can sell for.
