This guy has apparently accomplished a dream I've had since I was very young: to own and operate a 1:1 scale "train set", complete with Victorian era steam locomotives and passenger cars! Consider me jealous (but also inspired).
IIRC the 2-6-2 loco came from Pat Hall's collection at Carowinds Park on the NC/SC state line near Charlotte. I was the engineer for one season 1974. The loco is rebuilt from a 2-6-2T plantation loco and is now almost 150 years old.
I believe I have just found the holy grail of a railfans retirement package, and the envy of practically all rail fans world wide. I may have a slight bit of envy but but I applaud the guy for having the funds to restore, upkeep these pieces of history.
No. 2 was built for Lehigh Stone quarry in 1923. It was rebuilt in Port Clinton, Ohio and tested at Cedar Point. It was later used in the TV show Dr. Quinn Medicine Women. A sister loco is in service at Cedar Point. No. 3 was built 1897 for the Baker and LePine plantation and later say service at Carowinds after a rebuild by Crown. No. 1 was built in 1968 for Astroworld.
Right!! When I was at Disneyland filming the Disneyland shows, (if you have not see those check them out) several of the guys in the shop were very upset they were sold. But I figure it's all fine. At least they not scrapped or something stupid.
Reminds me of the smaller ride on clubs. Have you ever thought about doing a video on one of the miniature ride on train clubs? As in around 1/8 scale or 7 1/2 gauge?
Thanks for the share! Love to see these videos getting out there. I'm doing two shows, more soon, on 7 1/2 gauge railroads, one also has a 2 foot gauge loop! With a 2 foot steam and a 2 foot diesel ans a 2 foot trolley!! And the other railroad has 10 miles of track yet is all but unknown because the owner must keep a very very low profile.
You forgot rob rosie's #1 engine: the original six flags astroworld 610 limited steam engine! It's at the ranch, mostly likely it runs on occasion. Hope you get footage of it running
@@ToyManTelevision did you know when the 610 limited steam train from six flags astroworld was getting replaced by a diesel and diesel hydraulic, The people who maintained #1 begged profusely for it to stay because they didn't want to see it go and the other steam engine #2 was sold for scrap! It's no wonder that steam engines big or small all have interesting stories about them :)
COOL. I know of a place where hundreds of "power poles" line an old grade in Nevada. Middle of nowhere. When I checked the "power poles" they only ever had one insulator. Square poles too. And on the lower part, a fire brand logo for Western Union. Yup, old telegraph poles. Going back with a chain saw.
This is my dream! I've always said why, if you have the room for large ride-on trains, wouldn't you just use full size narrow gauge trains? This is exactly what I would do post lotto. ;-)
KlunkerRider Rob is doing a cool thing there!! Rob has made a fortune (or two) on Santa Barbara real estate. He bought that ranch to build a vineyard, which the state will not allow him to do, as yet, because it was a native village and then a Spain mission in about 1760 or so. But I think he has solved that and in planting vines at last. He also wanted to build a 3 foot steam railroad from the Ventura County fairgrounds to a movie studio we worked at at the time, (Rob owned the real estate) and that's how I met him. Anyway, the county would not allow that either. California, hard to do stuff.
Rob had entered into an agreement with the American Civil War Association to host annual reenactments there on the ranch either in '12, '13 or about when you were there. At this point, I just can't remember due to CRS. We looked with great anticipation to the first annual event, which, alas, never got off the ground due to San Luis Obispo County government regulatory interferance. The event(s) were dropped and we (ACWA) went looking for other venues to host our screwing around with black powder under the cloak of "honoring our ancestors". Next time you're there, plan on a 2.5 hour detour up to the Pacific Crest, 'cause as you know, were just 5 miles from Laguna Seca! Although I'm not a big race fan, our Monterey & Salinas Valley RR Museum (www.msvrr.org) has agreed to volunteer at the gates to collect tickets during this year's season. Our pay would go to the Museum. Double screwing around? I'm in! The PC has lovely overnight accommodations and meal plans, as well. Rates are VERY reasonable and we serve the finest in California wines, as long as someone brings them.
*Cuteness here!* The 2-4-0 fleet number 2 looks an authentic Baldwin product from the build plate on the smokebox, a 3'-0" younger sister of standard-gauge 2-4-0 Class 6/22-C-1 SerNo 3689 (ex-Virginia & Truckee River #21, in storage at Sacramento, CA, as of April 2016) - the sand and throttle domes are post-1890; if in fact a 1923 build, the serial number should be in the mid-40000's (e.g., "No. 45106 / Mar. 1923"). Don't know who built fleet number 3; I didn't see a build plate on her smokebox.
+B. C. Schmerker Interesting. We are planning to get back out there. This time get video. this was some years ago before the channel. Just a grand day out adventure. I understand he has 4 locomotives now. Been trying to get Dan Markof out there too with E&P #4.
Did y'all know that Santa fe railroad helped and teamed up with Disneyland to create the trains at Disneyland and that's why you also see the Santa fe railroad name on Disney land passenger cars
Hi. Disney worked for them for like a year as a young man. Don’t think they added any labor but did pay for building the locomotives. All of witch were named after Santa Fe presidents.
+TheBrantfordRailfan There was a guy in Denver who had a 2 ft. railroad. He built a 2ft Climax and had a 2 ft shay and 2 industrial engines. Last I saw the whole thing was in storage. AND we are doing a show on a 2ft in Farmington UT soon. Let us see what you come up with!
Toy Man Television Cool! i wish i had the space for that! i won't have space for a lot of track, probably just a straight track or a loop, it will still be awesome and i will inform you about it when it's finished, it may take 2 years at the most
@@jmjpowerjoule Honestly dude. Stop. We really don't like people making light of things we consider sacred. I don't think you understand, so I don't hold it against you, but please understand, we don't consider it "magic" but simple clothing that symbolizes a sacred covenant to between us and the Lord.

Oddly not that unusual. We have covered like 4 people who have done or are doing this. ruclips.net/video/Lc9mn3fDWQc/видео.html

This is so great Like to get back out there!! I understand he now has 4 locos!!
I guess I actually have a reason to go to California now.
There are other reasons too!! Been to the cable car museum??
I've been to the one up in Maine because my family use to live up there. Never had the money to go California. One day I will.
Bucket list items for sure!!
Its nice to see some of the original Disneyland cars survived instead of being scrapped.
Ward Kimball begged Eisner not to sell those Disneyland cars.
Very nice trip to the narrow gauge! What a major investment that is! Great that it's shared with all, and thanks for taking us there! :) Jack
It is a bunch of fun. Hoping to get back up there with Karyn soon. And shoot video this time!
Yes that is very cool and a heck of a project, thank you for another excellent episode.
Thanks for watching!! Trying to get back up there for wine and more trains!

two of his engines used to run at the Carowinds amusement park in NC/SC
It's been my dream to do something like this and have my very own full-size steam railroad.
Amazing place. He opens it once a year. Not with Covid. But again soon.
Good fun! Not boring! Glad to be a subscriber!
Glad to have you on board. Not bored, BOARD!!
Great video glad I found your channel 😎

Good stuff Bud!!☺
Thanks for watching and sharing!! I love this stuff!! I want one of (the small) hit and miss engines. Hum, a hit and miss V8? Hummmmmm...

Sort of reminds me of Ward Kimball. Only WAY bigger. When I was there he had I think 2.5 miles of track. Super well laid too.

These two were the only ones there that day. Last time we were there 3 years ago there were four steam and two gas. But only one steam locomotive ran.

Wow!
Did you enjoy yourself up there? The ORIGINAL PCRy ran through my hometown of Santa Maria.
Going back in the spring. Love the place!!!! Lived in Ojai for years, and that's when I found out about it. Met Rossi at a real estate event.
Toy Man Television There are some areas around here where you can still see parts of the PCRy and The Electrified line.
Love to see that too.

Where could someone get one of those engens
There are websites. Not sure. But they are out there. Try Wasatch Rail Contractors in Cheyenne Wyoming
what type of steam whistles on the locomotives?
Don't know.
Mission Santa Barbra is one of the famous stations
+united 1932 That it is! What blows my mind is that El Cameo was FINISHED in 1796. Robs Mission is from1770. Before the Declaration of Independence!
I might go there

As models go I'd say that is 1:1 scale.
Go to the Carson city railroad museum (Nevada railroad museum)
I plan on building a full sized 2 foot gauge gas electric locomotive soon.

I was expecting him it actually go there and video it. It was a lame video
So Where's the railroad? ha ha you talk too much. Wanna see trains not the inside of a car when you should be paying attention to your driving. ;-)
+ChinaAl We do need to get back there. Trying to set that up but Rob is very busy. He now has 4 locomotives.
