      @@narigon3942 Douglas completely schooled Tyson. The issue with Douglas was he lsot his will to fight after tyson and that's why he lost to holyfield so easily. Even Holyfield before the tyson fight said that Douglas was a good enough fighter to challenge Mike.

    • @cormacmcquillan3005
      @cormacmcquillan3005 4 года назад +1

      @Tatarawr 2-3 months is enough to train. Douglas lost his will or drive to fight after Tyson. He never liked boxing much, he only did it at first to please his father and to make a living. When he made his millions he retired because he felt he had everything he'd aspired for. He only came back to boxing in order to keep him occupied and in shape. If he had will and drive he could've been great. I still think he'd have lost to Holyfield, but it would've gone the distance.

    • @cormacmcquillan3005
      @cormacmcquillan3005 4 года назад +1

      @Tatarawr He made 27 million for his fight with Holyfield, but taxes and other expenses made him walk away from only a few million, but he's now got a net worth of 15 million so he's probably made money from appearances and documentaries ect. 2-3 monts is more than enough time. The real issue was Douglas wasn't training, his trainer even said so, he used to only complete half the session and then order pizza from the gym. Boxers can lose a huge amount of weight when they properly train. Look at how quickly Tyson Fury lost weight, or Riddick Bowe. Douglas wasn't very overweight, he just no longer cared. AS for being top ten, although his performance against Tyson was impressive and definitely not a fluke, Tyson was for sure in shape, he was still not ATG quality. He could've been one of the great fighters of his era. Thing is, although Tyson was still as good as he had ever been when he faced Douglas, he wasn't improving which is what made the difference. When Tyson trained under Rooney he was always getting better, learning to nullify his weaknesses like fighting against taller quick handed opponents which is what Douglas was. Had Tyson kept Rooney it may have turned out differently, but Tyson fans are extremely ignorant of boxing. They've only watched Tyson highlights and don't understand the sport at all.

    Buster took several years off after losing the title disgracefully to Holfyfield. He came back only to get in better shape as he had ballooned to well over 300lbs and was coming down with all sort of health issues. This fight is far past his prime. Buster was not a bum. He just lacked motivation to be consistently good in the ring. I always liked his style. He was slick... very agile and quick for a heavyweight and he had a great jab. He was able to put it all together against Tyson in Tokyo and that Cinderella win likely sapped whatever ambition he did have in the sport.

    They keep talking about how Mike in his prime could beat anyone but he lost only 5 years into his career at age 24. No heavyweight in history has been beyond their "prime" at that age. Thats like saying how Joshua lost to Ruiz wayy past his prime at age 30 but before that he beat everyone he faced for the first 6 years of his career so he must be great regardless what happens next.

    • @Thomas-fk3cw
      @Thomas-fk3cw 5 лет назад +1

      Nailed it. Tyson was 24 and his "prime" ended the night Buster Douglas showed everyone you fight Tyson by pushing him back, not back pedaling in fear. Tyson can't fight going backwards. He was one of the most exciting fighters ever, but not an all time great.

    • @CarlUsana-o3l
      @CarlUsana-o3l 4 года назад +5

      I believe he could. His own fault for not training hard at all & partying too hard before the Douglas fight. I think Tyson never really reached his true prime somewhere 24-30+ y.o., made too many wrong choices/ mistakes early on. If only his mentor lived on, didn't fire his trainer, rejected the wrong people, consistently trained hard & evolved his fighting style, he would be unbeatable. It's a shame

    • @sussudio9922

      @Allen Wilson LOL, what utter garbage. Tyson destroyed several boxers with excellent jabs - Holmes, Biggs, Spinks, etc. Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno and several others are on record to point out that Tyson was far from being at his best against Douglas. You've got to joking..... The Tyson that fought Alex Stewart in late 90 (and with Rooney 85 - 88) would have destroyed Douglas. One obvious point is Tyson's conditioning - when Tyson fought Tucker and Mitch Green he easily went 12 rounds and fought with excellent timing with the peekaboo defensive style; against Douglas Tyson had poor conditioning he was exhausted by the middle rounds, also Tyson's timing was way off, he was relatively slow defensively and offensively - he didn't throw combinations (he threw punches one at a time) etc.; contrast this with Tyson vs Stewart 10 months later (Dec. 1990), although Tyson didn't use the peekaboo defensive style - he was 6 pounds lighter and his hand speed was dramatically faster - his hand speed was so fast that it was blur.

    • @sussudio9922
      @sussudio9922 4 года назад +3

      @Allen Wilson Do you even watch boxing? "Random people" - Holmes and Spinks are hall of famers and Biggs was a gold medalist who beat Lennox Lewis. Larry Holmes years later beat Rayer Mercer by decision. Holyfield was a natural 190 pound boxer as well. There you go. You didn't refute any of my points. Also, I didn't write that Bruno had a good jab.
      It's obvious that you don't know what your talking about.

    Its just a real shame Douglas beat Tyson. Its almost like Douglas was not even a worthy opponent, and yet he managed to fight brilliantly for one day in his life. His camp did their homework on Tyson and figured out that he lunges forward for the left hook or roundhouse then works inside with uppercuts. The key to douglas win was his foot work. He was able to mitigate some of Tysons power by backing up as soon as Tyson leaped forward, and he was clearly trained well in this maneuver. The other thing Buster did was counterpunch very well, further flummoxing an already aggravated Mike Tyson, who was getting tired of getting hit when he moved in close. These tactics slowed mikes punching ability to almost a snales pace and hampered his efforts for one big KO. He couldn't get to Douglas so he couldnt capitalize on his punching power, except for in the 8th round when he nailed Douglas with a vicious uppercut. You know mike and Douglas had identical counts, its just Douglas was allowed to continue and Mike was not. Was really hoping the ref would have counted douglas out because the last second is slow, he should have said 10 but didn't and let him continue. We know the final outcome Who knows how much different Mikes life would have turned out if he had continue winning, Douglas ruined that for everyone and was pretty much the worst heavyweight champion in boxing history. He had no respect for the title.
