KUNG FU PANDA 4 is Not GREAT...

- So, here's my take on Kung Fu Panda 4. It's not as bad as I thought, but it's not exactly blowing my mind either. I was cool with Kung Fu Panda 3 wrapping things up, so when rumors started swirling about a fourth flick, I was skeptical. Let's start with the positives. The movie's visuals are stunning, maintaining the colorful and stylistic animation the series is known for. Po's character development is also commendable, showing his growth into a true inspiration. The action sequences, particularly the tavern brawl, are thrilling and well-executed. On the downside, the 3D felt flat, not worth the extra cash. The soundtrack was forgettable, except for Zhen's theme. And the plot? Well, it's a mixed bag. Some characters, like Li, felt off. And the story beats seemed recycled, especially the Dragon Warrior stuff. Plus, some characters, like the Furious Five, felt sidelined. And the Chameleon villain lacked depth, her backstory feeling rushed. Overall, it's okay. Not terrible, but not amazing like the trilogy. Just kinda meh.

Plus the chameleon likely didn't try and train at the valley of peace so uh maybe they did maybe they didn't.
@IDKWhatCouldBeMyHandle I don't think thats fair. I dont feel they rejected her because of her size either. I think that its projection on her part. In reality she is just inept at kung fu

Ok but the thing is, they weren’t in the Valley of peace where this took place. The chameleon grew up in Juniper City and things seem to be a lot more rough there and so being “too short” actually kinda makes sense. Although it did feel kinda rushed lol

Both Kai and Shen were evil from the beggining, only Tai Lung's backstory was sad.
Fr
Tai lung was evil too .oogway said "there is darkness in your heart"
@@shantanuvarun9900 he was indeed truely evil but still he got some pretty good back story. Like in first movie the conflict between him and shifu was quite touching. Ik he's not capable but tai lung doesn't understand that. And shifu was like a parent to him who he thought betrayed him. One thing kfp4 is he sees the difference between himself and po. But overall only the trilogy exists for me. Kfp4 wasn't a trash but doesn't creat excitement.
@@mithudhali_he was evil from the begining. SHifu loved him too much to see what he really is. Shifu didnt betrayed him though. Same thing happened with tigress and she was not selected for dragon warror. She didnt go out destroying everyone
@@shantanuvarun9900 yeah shifu didn't betray him. Tailung thought he did. He did have darkness in himself but his story has good depth as a villain. That's what I'm trying to say. Like it's not something random antagonist who just wanna gain power. He does wanna gain power but he has his own strong motive to say unlike The chameleon.
I personally think that Tigeress should have replaced Po so it would wrap back to the first one where she was almost chosen.
idk why but I think tigeress was sposed to smh be "next in line" to Po instead of the new character in the 4th movie. Maybe influenced by what u said too
I find thay funny because u bring tigress up but apparently the reason they really werent in was cause tigress' voice actor wanted more money then she was offered is what ive heard through other but i could be srong but if not then there u go
I've always thought of Tigeress as the next shifu rather than the next dragon warrior
Oh shoot that would be interesting if tigress refuses cause she wants to keep being a student or feel not worthy. Taking her friends position might feel wrong. It would have been a cool po and tigress movie. With additional of Tia lung
Actually, the chameleon's backstory was just a last minute inclusion. Mike mitchell didn't want her to have one but the crew members did. So she could've been even more bland than she is now. And that's only a small bit of the nightmare of a development this movie had.
Fuck Mike Mitchell if that is the case.

The chameleon took more time to transform into her big design than it had actual time on screen.
She turns into po for no reason, as she hadn’t absorbed his energy so she didn’t have his skills (would be more meaningful if she’d stolen his power at some point)
Po gets out of the unbreakable cage off screen during the final fight and then proceeds to one shot the villain, so could he have just done that at any time?
Kai and Shen are brought back but have no lines or comments about the villain or to Po, and they go back to the spirit realm without a fight.
The chameleon’s motivation makes no sense. She was banned from learning kung fu based on her size and strength, even though we have both mantis and viper as kung fu masters despite one being literally a bug and the other not even having limbs.
The whole movie felt like it needed another 30-40 minutes to flesh out the ideas a lot more. But even conceptually some of it just didn’t work for me.
I just knew something would be off when I saw that the movie was less than 2hours
@@olamilakes2712 yea it gives off two intentions.
Either this was initially a smaller budget streaming movie that got upgraded to a full theatrical film.
Or the studio wanted to fit more showings in a day to make more money.
I think po only one shotted her there was because he hit her with a chi attack, and when Zhen used that chi dragon attack like po did it sent the chameleon flying and she was down for a sec, then she got back up and went to attack Zhen but then po moved her out of the way and hit her with a chi attack so I'm pretty sure that's the only reason she got one shotted if it wasn't a chi attack she would of kept coming, chi attacks are the strongest attacks we seen in the kung fu series it was the only thing that affected kai and he was very powerful, so I'm not that shocked that the chameleon got defeated the way she did.
@@user-vn1nn1dn6t I have no issue with Po defeating her with a chi attack. Its just that he did it so casually. Up until that point as the audience we were told he would die if he fights the chameleon, but then he pulls this attack out of nowhere and defeats her instantly.
@xero1048 I'm not trying to defend the movie or anything I was just saying that po defeated her there because he hit her with a chi attack, but yeah he did do it really casually and could he of done that from the beginning, I can see why people would be upset there
kungfu panda 3 should've been the final
Surprisingly that one was my least favorite. If I had to rank them I'd say 2>1>4>3. I don't think 3 is a bad movie, it's just that the others are better. Yeah Kung Fu panda 4 did have a bit of mess with the plot but it was honestly pretty solid overall and entertaining, meanwhile Kung Fu panda 3 kinda backtracked a bit with po's character of finding out who he really is at the end of 2 ( though I can't really blame them since finding your long lost father and relatives is a pretty big deal) but not only that it feels like po spent the entire movie doing nothing and just mastered chi out of no where at the end there. Idk kinda didn't make sense to me
@@tareqal-hasan4975i suppose its more of an age yk most people can only understand all the depths of the movie if they watch it continuously in one swoop for example yk like me i watched all kung fu pandas on the release date itself and because of that huge release date difference i kinda didnt even get the story but when i rewatched all of them together it just made sense ig kung fu panda movies make sense differently for each age idk how to explain it ngl
I like Kung Fu Panda 3 and 4 🐼 all time
Two things didn't make sense in this movie:
1. The Chameleon only became evil because she was too small to learn Kung Fu... Meanwhile, in the same universe, there lives Mantis, who is even smaller and is one of the greatest Kung Fu masters.
2. Po is literally forced to give up on being a dragon warrior and become a spiritual leader as soon as possible, which is bad for many reasons:
- Wisdom comes with age and experience, and Po is still relatively young and immature. Why do he need to become a spiritual leader right now?
- Suddenly there is like a casting for a new dragon warrior and it's on the "just pick someone" principle. In the first movie, this was a really big deal, and the candidate had to be truly worthy of the title (not to mention that each candidate had been trained for years specifically for this purpose and ultimately it was the universe's choice, not Oogway's to pick one).
Haven’t watched the fourth one yet. But maybe when a Dragon Warrior is discovered they can pick the next one to pass the scroll down to? And if there has been no dragon warrior then they have to allow the universe to decide?
@@icegreer4929 It's probably as you say. However, the way Shifu expected Po to choose a dragon warrior was devoid of any sacredness. He just introduced him to a bunch of random warriors and was like "just pick one so you can be a spiritual leader."
@@rafal.qwerty yeah that’s just random. They should give the moment the weight it deserves considering this whole franchise was based on the concept of the Dragon Warrior. I’m debating even watching it which is sad cause I love this franchise
@@rafal.qwerty Actually if you see in end universe selected the new dragon warrior. If you look at it it is a coincidence than zen met po when he had to select the dragon warrior. He came out of nowhere like po.
For the first point Chameleon comes from a city whereas Mantis is from a village. So the Chameleon would have more competition and so if someone is larger at the same skill level they'll get chosen as they're stronger and a city has more potential for this rather than a village.
Shen was the only one to die to Po, instead of just going to the shadow realm.

As soon as I found out the the Furious Five wasn't in the main poster of the movie, I already felt like this isn't gonna be great.
I assume the voice actors of the furious five didn't want to participate in the movie. Maybe that was why they were never shown until the end.
Better plot for the movie:
Po after being betrayed by Zhen, got lockup in the depths of Chameleon's fortress. Chameleon proceeded to transform into Po and went to the valley of peace.
Chameleon seemingly acts like Po and everyone was fooled even Shifu, meanwhile Po's Goose dad started to doubt after his noodles got snubbed by Chameleon acting as Po.
Meanwhile Zhen having felt guilty went back to the fortress to save Po and was met by the Gangsters army. After a hard fought battle Zhen was able to free Po but Po was so heartbroken and disgusted he did not move out of his cell.
Zhen tried to persuade Po countless times until they fought each other with anger from each other. Po defeated Zhen with ease. They both went back to valley of peace to confront Chameleon.
Mr. Ping still having doubts told Po's dad and Shifu but they refused to believe it. Chameleon continues to pose as Po and assembled an army from the Dragon warrior candidates. She told her plan that they will teach the world Kung Fu starting with Juniper City.

Kung Fu Panda 2 was peak
Personally, I don't mind the Furious 5 not turning up in this movie because it demonstrates that Po is maturing and becoming more dependent. Keep in mind that he was utilizing them for platforming and like he's a Kingdom Hearts character in kfpII, where they received the most screen time. And, to some sense, it makes the Furious 5 feel like real people with their own lives outside of Po.
All the money went to the chameleons model
One think I wish would happen is if her power had yellow to it. That’s because of this:
Tai lung’s blue fiery flame power
Shen’s red raging power
Kai’s green glowing power
And then maybe Chameleon’s yellow shapeshifter power
My opinion i didn't like it, it felt short, scuffed, villains name is CHAMEALON, and po isn't "po", it gives a type of snotty over powered person, first couple movies po was finding who he was, development, ect., po was funny, strong, and just overall better then him now, no hate but I give 1/10 it's just not worth it..
What do you mean the soundtrack was “forgettable” the soundtrack was so fun, and the Chinese ‘Crazy Train’ was actually crazy
I think Po finding a successor would have made more sense if Shifu had been dying and they killed him off at the end.

they couldve made only tai lung to bow to po since aint no waus shen is going to when he dedicated his whole life commiting genocide on po's race same goes for kai, they shouldve been atleasy gave them lines about the villain or po, they only brought tai lung to hype the movie bullshit
Po never has changed as a character. He is easily manipulated because of his immaturity. He constantly doesn't take a threat seriously thus creating situations that could have been prevented if he took them seriously. Also he should have accepted being the new Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace and of the Jade Palace. That way Po would have actually grown up instead of being how he was in the first movie. Another thing is that Po should have let Tai Lung being the Dragon Warrior so that Tai Lung would have what he wanted for so long. And another thing is that Po should have let Lord Shen and Kai stay in the mortal world so they could make up for all the horrible things they did when they were originally alive. With Lord Shen dedicating his wolf army into being a relief force for anyone who was affected by war. With Kai having to give advice to Po as an advisor and maybe even becoming an historian to the Jade Palace and the Valley of Peace by telling the people about how things were back in his time.

“The furious five felt sidelined” bro they got 5 seconds of screen time
"The Furious Five felt sidelined"
No change there then
Po literally loses everything he learnt in the past 3 movies, like inner piece so he became dumber and the chameleon’s motives are very dumb
I still am on the idea that this entire movie should have been poe reuniting with tai long then redeeming him through out the movie and passing the role of dragon warrior to him showing he was always destined to be the dragon warrior he just wasn’t ready yet
"The character development" bro sound like a Language art teacher
The five apparently were not planned to be in the movie because of the budget, but when the marketing team heard that when they got the footage to make the trailers they had a fit and they got a deal done with the actors to record some so that the trailer would succeed. Problem is the movie was done so they plugged in what they could. So in the end blame studio budgets and marketers.
" every good thing comes in 3 " a wise man
Who told Brian that Ange doesn’t play with a 6, at Celtic he played with a 6 and two 8s, with one being further ahead than the other.
The problem is the story architecture.
You see, they followed 2 stores at once. They followed the, "Villain arrives, hero fights villain, hero loses, hero rises up beaten, hero overcomes villain" story.
They also followed a redemption story. With the new dragon warrior being a criminal that sees the error of her ways. However, a redemption story as a main story requires a lot of screen time. As does a hero overcoming the villain.
You need to make us believe the redeemer is bad, becomes good enough to be redemption worthy, then give them the opportunity to do it. For the majority of the movie, she isn't viewed as bad. She's viewed as living a hard life. Even her betrayal wasn't as bad as she initially thought. She was tricked.
The hero beats villain feels obvious. Dragon warrior is basically a trump card. There doesn't feel like there are any stakes to the fight, because there kinda isn't.
They didn't make either one compelling. They made them compete for being the main story, without giving either the room to do that effectively.
If instead Po had to give up the title and his kung fu to her, so she could beat the chameleon, that would alter the story. He could have been found meditating to discover this reality. Po's coming to peace with the universe would be how he can recognize his place as a teacher now, not the dragon warrior. The end could be him regaining some of his kung fu, but never enough to fight as he used to.
Would make for an actual compelling plot, satisfying end for Po, better redemption for her, and an explanation for why Po couldn't beat the chameleon, but she could (it not being HIS destiny, but it being the dragon warrior's destiny).
Mantis' whole existence basically renders the movie nonsensical
KFP was originally planned for 6 parts, 3 felt more like a good halfway point but I guess it can be a good send off too
My problem with it was how incredibly predictable it was. While it had its good moments like the tavern brawl (best scene imo) I saw zhen’s “twist” coming from the moment her character agreed to take po to the city. At least aquafina did a better job voice acting this time, I forgot it was her at some points!
Zhen is so funny training too be the new warrior😂
People are saying her backstory about being short is stupid, and while I agree, it’s not that simple. From words from the directors(I think they were the directors), it was revealed that only the Jade palace was welcoming, which makes sense with all the short masters were trained at the jade palace, and if you watched the furious five backstory’s, we actually see evidence of this from Cranes backstory. This definitely should of been mentioned and placed into her backstory, plus lots of more details.
I think my biggest gripe with it was how quickly they tried to get through the movie. There were parts I had to rewind to watch it because it felt like the moment went by wayyyy too fast. They never let a moment take the time to breathe
The furious five weren’t just sidelined, they were almost completely left out of the movie. Like it was basically just a cameo, and they didn’t even have any lines
I dont think they tried to make the chameleon a tragic villain, she is just power hungry, and so maybe she wasnt taught kung fu because of that reason, because she wanted to use it to feel powerful.
Also a big thing that the other 3 villans had that this villan lacked imo. A proper reason and motivation for being the villan, there just wasnt anything behind it. She was a villan just because why not
The underutilization/lack of redemption for Shen was extremely frustrating. This is a guy who threw away everything for power and control, and played a pivitol role in allowing Po to achieve his potential
“Felt sidelined” is the understatement of the century, they just straight up weren’t in the movie. Until way at the very end, and they didn’t speak

"Felt" sidelined? No they literally were sidelined.
The chameleon didn't summon oogway and absorb his kung fu
I like to think that the jade palace would have accepted her and that since they were fine with mantis and crane, crane being weak and skinny, then they would have accepted her. Shifu was also small, but in oogweys' eyes, he was no different than the biggest elephant. Who you are is a personal choice, as shown with the new dragon warrior, but it's also shown to be your environment that has a way of affecting you as well.
The thing that bothered me the most was all the trailers with Tai Lung for him to have 5min of screen time
Movie should have been about Tai Lung's redemption and him becoming the Dragon Warrior

See I feel that writing could have saved this movie…
1. Change the chameleons backstory from “They wouldn’t teach me because I was too short” to “They saw darkness in my heart and refused to teach me”
2. Make the mystical staff / spiritual elements of the film feel waaaaaaaaaay harder to obtain and legitimately hard for Po to use, it took Oogway hundreds of years to master Chi and Po (as well as Chameleon and Zhen) should be waaaaay far behind in their use. You can still include the whole “Gateway to the spirit world being available only for the duration of the moon in the sky” bit, but reduce how OP the magic is.
3. Make Tai Lung a god damn asset to the team rather than some sideline villain. Have Zhen learn from both the idealistic Po and realist Tai Lung to become an even more valuable dragon warrior, and defeat the chameleon using both Po and Tai Lung as teachers.
