Larry was born a year before and like him, I played the tenor saxophone. The problem of old age meant that I had to retire a couple of years ago but it is great that he is still carrying the flag. Lester Young used to question the quality of a solo by saying 'does it tell a story?' Larry meets that on all counts.
When all ya';ll musicians are 84 years old, then you have something to say. Until then, Larry McKenna, got the message, money, music right on tonight!!
I keep coming back to this video one of my favourite songs played by one of my favourite tenor men. If the madness subsides this year going to get to Philly and catch a couple of gigs
:) Glad you found him! I have quite a few more videos of Larry McKenna that you can check out. Here's an incredible ballad I just posted a couple of days ago: ruclips.net/video/XrybNHm0CJE/видео.html
Larry’s melodic ideas flow so freely, like water out of spigot. God bless him and keep him with us for many years to come. We know each other well but not by my handle I use on RUclips.
to good to be true ,, wow , ,he is just perfect on this tune .. should have done it in a studio where he belongs and we can hear the rich sounds , bobby g
He's gonna be at he Lenni 1608 Ridge Ave. 12/8/22 7:30pm Philly with Dave Posmontier, piano Craig Mc Iver, drums and Kevin Mac Connell on bass and Arlene Hilton on Vocals. $20.00
Larry had to play with the Black musicians before, in the day. He didn't care about the color of anyone singing or playing, he had to prove himself to the Black jazzz musicians. Which Larry McKenna did.
Yeah apparently folks in the know knew anyway. World class treatment of the modern standard by someone who paid his dues in full. Listen everyday world class cats die in relative anonymity. All jazzers know this.

Wow, I'm stealing some licks from this guy...
Look at Larry's foot! Baby now!
I can see Larry McKenna's face, while these people play. None of the people are presenting to Larry McKenna!

Baby now
That’s what I’m talkin bout
But I am.
I''VE talked too much on this issue of Larry McKenna.
Yeah apparently folks in the know knew anyway. World class treatment of the modern standard by someone who paid his dues in full. Listen everyday world class cats die in relative anonymity. All jazzers know this.
Sweet tenor and very cool rhythm section! Too many voices talking
& not diging the sounds!
Porque só a velha guarda toca o sax tenor!!!
To bad there isn't a drummer. The band is swingin.... but with this song, a swinging drummer would of have been even greater.
I listened to this about 1000 times and I realized only now that there is no drummer 😂
This says a lot
Excellent playing. Pity about the noisy audience.
