7:50 I agree with this sentiment. When you put in so much time and effort, to just throw your images on a platform that people look at for two seconds...I don't know. Just seems like you're wasting the "potential" of the images. I think at this point a lot of people would rather have ten people look at their work intentionally on a website compared to a thousand mindless scrollers on Instagram. IG is still useful, just not in that way anymore. For me at least.
@@Mononoken I don’t think there is a huge difference aside from the quality of images. If someone wants to look at my work, I’m directing them to my website because the images look better. I’m just talking about the average user. The average person is not sitting on images for too long while browsing IG. That’s why I implied ten people looking intently versus a thousand that just flick past in an instant. There will always be crossover though and some people will sit on images and actually look while on Instagram.
@@Mononoken I also think people go to a website with a different intention. On IG it's like people stumble upon your picture almost randomly, while on a website people intentionally want to check out your work. The IG feed usually is full of visual noise. And the habit of scrolling mindlessly (which Instagram, TikTok and Facebook are profiting of and kinda built upon) is playing a huge role in how people are consuming photos, I think. It also kinda sucks to have your photos show up in a feed between dancing teenagers and memes. Yet again, it's the most simple way to showcase work. Tough topic for sure.
I would say that a video like this makes it feel like actually hanging out with you rather than watching a video in a more "formal way". It's more honest and relaxed and I think that fits your personality the best.
I love this format! It’s really inspiring to see the different adventures you have, the various processes you try, and simply seeing the photos you take :)
Hey, this style of the video perfectly fit the messages. I like the mix of topics and breadth covered. What I really enjoy is how you so often photograph places on both coasts where I have lived or spent long periods of time myself. Your beautiful photos always bring back cheerful memories. Cheers! ✌️
The word "Honeysuckle" is so funny to me idk why. Gosh those east coast pictures are just so telling of the environment, you've captured the spirit of the place effortlessly.
A monthly vlog series would be great. Seeing the contact sheets as you make them is actually fun to see. You're sharing your first reactions too. Share another next month!
Love the 'chaotic' vlog format. It's nice to see what an artist is up to, even the little things like switching chemistry and your thoughts about your own projects. Can't wait for more!
This is great! Your adaptation of living space to darkroom space is inspiring. The pictures of upstate NY resonated with me, as I spent a lot of time there and the color pallet is very different from SoCal. Go with your gut - your intuition is fabulous.
I’m totally onboard with the longer vlog style. Moving from one topic to another gives a segmented feel, each with content to pique interest, and ultimately offers so much more than a shorter home-run video. Thanks, and looking forward to the next!
I really enjoyed your video and sharing it with us. I found your East Coast seems to have a yearning about them which I enjoyed. I’m new to your channel and was feeling privileged to see your process of doing contact sheets and making prints. I printed B&W a million years ago. A box of 8x10 paper was $13.00. I had to tray process the prints, fix them, dry them on a double sided heater with canvas which held the print against the stainless steel plate. I can see how times have changed with your processor doing color. Wow. Thanks for sharing.
i really enjoyed the next vlog. I wish you all the best for the future and i hope you can make an easy full time career as a creator. We need you. Best wishes from Switzerland. Roman
Met you at Joe Greer’s book signing. Your at home development video is what got me into building up my own setup. Love the content man!! LA film gang!!
Yeh, you certainly have got your own style - so nice, so good to see this in another photographer. I found your commentary about the difference in light and colour between east and west coast to be both insightful and significant.
You look like you had fun putting this video together. I love that for you. I can imagine it’s not always that easy to pick up the camera and feed our need to get input from you. Lots of love and inspiration your way. Loving the pictures with the camomile in focus out of focus. Loving that style.
Phewww what a relief to hear you compare your website with instagram. It certainly highlights the thing that we should all be asking ourselves, and that is, why am i taking this photograph ? GREAT !
This is so cool, my grandparents live right next-door to Holmequest. I grew up with the farmers son, this is so trippy to see all of this in your video!
Love watching your videos. Sitting outside on a balcony right now chilling, smoking and drinking and it’s just so peaceful. Thought it was interesting that you heat your chemicals to 35 degrees Celsius because I heat mine to 38 degrees. But then I use different chemicals, more at a hobby level. Keep up the good work!
It's great to see these kind of vlogs! Really like videos that show every step of the process, pre and post production, without it feeling like a tutorial
I absolutely loved the format of this video Willem! The space you left just for images and music through the Upstate NY segment was amazing - it really felt like it captured the mood well. And i totally agree about Instagram.
this is inspiring to watch. i gave a quota to myself to shoot more in film but im kinda ignoring and somehow forgets in longer period. now i need to get back to it.
The video was great, man! Love the vlog format. Makes it more personal in my opinion. Also loved the shots man. Always amped to see how you see different scenes and what you come up with.
I really liked watching this style of vlog! I love when you take us through specific trips too but doing a mix of things could be nice :) it was especially cool watching your process in the dark room too!
I would love to print color phots. We only got to print b&w in college. I enjoyed your book btw and am happy to have it in my collection. Keep em' coming.
Great work Willem! Loved the video format! My favorite shot was the New Yorker image with the light peaking at the bottom. Curious to know your thoughts on grainery?
Thank you so much! I loved this vlog! I Watched the entire thing and I really enjoyed seeing the darkroom process. I find it so relaxing and euphoric in a sense developing in a dark room so thank you 🙏🏽

This is it right here
What’s the difference between directing people to your IG who will intently look vs your website who will intently look?

I think it’s super fun to see this style of video. It’s a really free and relaxed feeling to watch.

Thanks very much Bob!
I like this format, Willem. Feels very genuine!
The not-to-serious, relaxed feeling of these videos are great. I really enjoy it.
The word "Honeysuckle" is so funny to me idk why.
Gosh those east coast pictures are just so telling of the environment, you've captured the spirit of the place effortlessly.
wow the first day of the month, Willy with the holeshot 😮💨
😂
These photos and the way you explain things..🧡 it's so calming.. keep it up 💛
the music choice complements your video and photo style so well! Such a pleasure to watch your work.
A monthly vlog series would be great. Seeing the contact sheets as you make them is actually fun to see. You're sharing your first reactions too. Share another next month!
it's fun! The cheese pull photo is killer
My favorite shot is the pizza slice! Absolutely stunning
Agreed
What camera and film stock you’ve made it with?
vlogs like these bring your channel to life bruh, it kinda balances with the usual recap/review videos which makes it more interesting.
Love the 'chaotic' vlog format. It's nice to see what an artist is up to, even the little things like switching chemistry and your thoughts about your own projects. Can't wait for more!
Your darkroom process stuff is always the coolest
I’m enjoying this format. It’s a relaxed, more personal flavor. But also like the more “produced”/themed videos. A mix is nice. Great stuff!
Honey wake up Willem posted

yo finally more vlogs, god has answered my prayer, lmaoo looked forward to this willem good job
I dig the longer video contrasting both coasts. Truly enjoy watching as I edit pictures, best of both worlds!
Perfect format of a video blog. Awesome work you do in film
photography
it was great to see the regular photo content + the vlog to see more of the behind the scenes of the film process. Loved this man!
I’m totally onboard with the longer vlog style. Moving from one topic to another gives a segmented feel, each with content to pique interest, and ultimately offers so much more than a shorter home-run video. Thanks, and looking forward to the next!
i think this blog format is so nice feels real
You got me thinking of new places to go shoot in LA, great to see it fresh from someone else's eyes.
This laid back form, I like it!
And now I will have a good day thanks dude 🙏
The feeling that the photograph at 4:28 evokes is incredible. When I look at it I feel a mix of familiarity and intimacy. I would love to get a print.
I love the format Willem!🙌🏼🙌🏼
thank you for actually showing the steps for making contact sheet ! beautiful photos as usual thank you

I think this is my favorite format to watch when it comes to RUclips videos!
Willem you are indeed a special photographer and person.
i like to load up my camera with some 120 while I watch this lol. I like this style of vlog!
Phewww what a relief to hear you compare your website with instagram. It certainly highlights the thing that we should all be asking ourselves, and that is, why am i taking this photograph ? GREAT !

It is fun, especially because its more content of you!
Great to see ur personal work also. Thanks a lot again Willem and keep up the good work.
Loved the format. It's crazy how you can just go out and see these photos anywhere, meanwhile I'm lucky to find good lighting for 5 minutes
What a great adventurous, yet very informational vlog. Love these, and miss your content Willem!

Format is fantastic. Look forward to seeing what is next. I've been watching for years and you continuously evolve and never disappoint.
Enjoyed the format! It works as a nice break-up between the videos that still need to be long-form standalone’s.
Enjoying the vlogs and I think the website is the right choice, thanks for sharing your work that way!
Yeah, nice to see a good volume of shots. I watch vids like this to get inspired and ideas for my own work. Thanks.

That was a fun vid. Love seeing the sheets
It’s so satisfying and relaxing to look at the bookshelf with the books sorted by color 🤤❤️
I absolutely loved the format of this video Willem! The space you left just for images and music through the Upstate NY segment was amazing - it really felt like it captured the mood well.
And i totally agree about Instagram.
every time I watch one of your videos I get inspired to go shoot. love the format, keep it coming!
