My home state!! I live downstate so to go all the way upstate to Herkimer NY to get some Herkimer diamonds would be so cool. The other gems are also cool as well.
Washington has quite a selection of gems From amethyst to garnet and even Opal. We also have a petrified ginkgo forest! Edit: it's also really easy to find fossil my sister found one randomly breaking open rocks when she was younger.
Montana Sapphire!! Idaho Star Garnets!! Oregon Sunstones!! Oregon Fire Opal!! Arkansas diamonds!! Gem Silica from the South Western states!! Love the channel, I hope these ideas are helpful. 😀 👍
The pyritized section of the Crinoid at 2:19 and 5:17 is likely the Calyx where it then branches out to a series of arms. Though crinoids look like plants they are actually animals. The Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, NY has a lot of great specimens.
My experience says that the one you "favored" is worth about $2000 at the very least. The problem with herkimer diamond mining is that the sites are "hard rock" mining locations. You can't bring a spade and a rock hammer, and expect the find much. Most of the successful miners come with bags of iron wedges, sledgehammers, and crow bars. The work is BACKBREAKING! And you might not find anything good.
Thanks for doing my home state! Would also love to see gems/minerals of NJ, MA, and NC. A friend of mine, who grew up upstate near Herkimer, says they used to find the 'diamonds' beside the road (when roadwork/oiling/coating was being done). They were in amongst the construction material, that's how plentiful they were!
It's very interesting🤔 to know about the gemstones found in New York🚕 city.💎💖🏙 Not only gemstones but also fossils too,🐚it's amazing. Great video and can't wait for the next one.😊💛
Other people may not know is that isn't the only gems that can be found in NYS. I've found Nephrite (jade) in the rivers also small little pebbles I'd dig out of the garden. I have found Sapphires, Emeralds, Opals, ruby's, green and orange garnets, sun stone, agates, agatized cherts, banded cherts, banded slate, smokey quartz, geodes, labradorite, sphalerite and jasper
Apparently there is (or was) a mineral from the Franklin mine in New Jersey called hodgkinsonite, and it's one of the most desired collector's gems because cut gems are very bright and very, very rare (since their type and only locality was the Franklin Mining District in NJ) Though the mine has been depleted of hodgkinsonite and currently it's believed that there are less than 10 cut gems in existence.
Here's an interesting place to go looking for minerals and gems: Ruggles Mine, in New Hampshire en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruggles_Mine I went there when I was a kid (my family had a summer cottage in New Hampshire), but I didn't find anything more exciting than some large slabs of mica.
Not enough information about NY Gemstones. Where was the sphalorite found, where was the pyrite found. I live in NYS. Western NY. There must be something up here as I live on the South shore of lake Ontario. Are you saying there is nothing here????? More information please! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

I found out Lake Superior had a lot of selenite when I was agate hunting there, even though it has nothing to do with New York.

I love all of the stones. I've only used selenite in a pendant or earrings when making my jewellery because it's soft.
