    I also did this. After 6 months I began to form my thoughts in Chinese and restrict any other language. Any important word I would encounter during the day(in my native language) would immediately look up the Chinese definition. Learned very fast.

    Is is depressing how he can speak and respond so quickly and I’ve been trying to learn so much longer. My brain is like a sieve!

      Don't feel discouraged! Everyone will learn in their own time. This is a young man going to med school so we should assume he is pretty intelligent. He also sounds like he did a lot of learning during lock downs and has many Chinese friends which is fantastic for him but other people might not be as fortunate. You can be this level one day too, don't give up!

      I have exactly the same feeling when watching this guy 😂 Both motivated and depressed at the same time, haha! He did amazing job no doubt. The only thing comforting me is that maybe putting so much emphasis on practical knowledge have hindered writing/reading skills. 🤔

      @@mihokapro3226 im totally opposite of you as a native Chinese speaker im struggling to english right now and i found out is hard when translation from chinese to english there is many words of meaning just like what WILL said you must have native speaker friend in order to improve your learning languages but my surrounding areas dont have such a person who know how to speak fluent English or native.. don't afraid to speak learning languages but that's only show Infront of friends what if stranger talk to me can i speak with confident without any mistake im pretty sure thats not going to work because subconscious would told you their definitely laughing for grammar or wrong vocabulary

    Still getting over the fact he can speak that well after just 18 months. I don't think I could l learn any language, let alone one as hard as Mandarin, in such a short time.

    • @RitaChinese
      @RitaChinese  2 года назад +3

      I think it just shows the possibility of how "fast" an English native speaker who got good resources, tools, methods, and people (plus time which might be so limited for most people) could master Mandarin Chinese! But everyone has their own path to enjoy the journey of learning a language😊

      @@RitaChinese I still think it's unlikely that I could reach that level even with the same free time as he had. Or maybe I'm just a pessimist...

    • @joshuanelsen8602
      @joshuanelsen8602 2 года назад

      In all fairness, unless we speak Chinese, we don't know how good he is. We just get a feeling that he is fluent, because there are not a lot of pauses in his speech and with Rita's praise it also influences our perception of his fluency. I wouldn't compare your abilities to his. We all have different advantages and disadvantages. Find out what your advantages are and exploit them.
