      I dunno. If the 150-600mm had the new AF motor system, then I would definitely go for that.
      I like and don’t like the 10x range of the 60-600mm. It seemed like you did not really need the big lens for the mummers.
      Most of your mummers shots were well under 200mm. Most of you shots at the zoo were over 400mm.

      Planes are my thing. 60-600 is the difference between swapping cameras or not as your subject lands and taxis past you.
      Have to say I much prefer your real world reviews to those who shoot banknotes and cotton reels. Also, I note that many reviewers forget about atmospheric conditions - shooting boats on a hot sunny day with a super telephoto lens ain't always going to end well :)

    The reason the Sigma lens can't do 30 frames per sec is that Sony put this limit on 3rd party lenses. It's a software issue not a hardware issue.

    It's not 'the first 10x zoom for mirrorless' (SONY has the 24-240mm), but it definitely is the only one that goes from a normal 60mm to a super-telephoto 600mm.

    The 60-600 would be a great lens to have on safari. When I first started photography I went with the A7 + 28-70mm kit lens on safari and took some great shots at 70mm where you can see the animals with an amazing background. That kit lens is horrible though, but I still got great shots. With the 60-600 it will allow someone to take amazing shots at all focal ranges. Nowadays I have the 150-500 Tamron which I can supplement with the Sigma 24-70 art and Sony 135mm 1.8 so I wouldn't buy it if you already have some great lenses in that focal range.

  • @Bad_Wolf_Media
    @Bad_Wolf_Media Год назад +3

    In the shooting that I do, the 60-600 would work well for shooting sports (football and soccer, especially) because they can go from way the hell down the field to right in front of you pretty quickly. But with the variable aperture, it would be best for daytime games. It would be trickier for night games.

    A lot of people use this for aviation as well, with the 60mm working good for static displays at airshows, wide angle scenery shots, formation flight shots etc. I personally went for the 150-600 for the weight and saying I could just use a second lens for wide angles

    • @mrrcassidy
      @mrrcassidy Год назад +4

      Exactly. Airshows are Extras and B-52s in the same space. I was at the park and view west at RIAT last year and using two cameras. Apart from when a C-17 and A400M were on the taxiway, I could have got away with one camera/one lens with a 60-600.

      @@hwhitham04 Haven't bought it yet :) I was using two Olympus cameras last year, one with a 12-100 the other with a 100-400. I now have a Lumix S1R/S5 - I'm minded to get the 150-600 - it's less money and I have a 24-70 and 135 lens now. I guess I'm going to park and view with two (rather larger) cameras again this year. Focusing will be slower than PDAF - but these are planes rather than birds so I think it will be fine.

  • @RealThore
    @RealThore Год назад +1

    I had the 200-600 but sold it as I only used it like 3x a year but having the internal zoom I’d prefer the Sony over the Sigma. Only reason why I’d go Sigma is for planespotting. Depending on the location the extra reach on the wide angle can be the difference between a filled frame or front and rear being out of frame (or the need for a second body with 70-200/switching lenses)

  • @hilmarkampstra1686
    @hilmarkampstra1686 Год назад +1

    First off: great review! I use the 200-600 G often in the zoo, and find myself shooting mostly in between that range. But I do get surprised sometimes by closer animals that I cannot focus on, pinguïns popping up, these are potentially great photo’s with a lot of expression, that I will have to miss. Until I would use this lens. So there you go, it’s definitely lens for the zoo that you don’t have to switch during your visit.

    This is the reason Canon's lens selection lags Sony. They not only have to compete against sony, but they also have to compete against Sigma and Tamron who may not kill it alone, but provide something that competes or is better than Canon at almost every level. The only things they don't have are a 85 1.2 and a 28-70 f2. But Sigma's 85 f1.4 is so ridiculously sharp, I don't really have any envy of the 85 f1.2.

      The RF 85mm f1.2 is actually still sharper than the F1.4 and has the advantage to have 33% beighter aperture. It's a special lens that really shook up the status quo. 60-600mm is great for vacation photos. Canon is making me, and many others, very unhappy by not getting going with Sigma. I too may sell all my gear and switch.

    Being a hobby photographer with my Sony a6400, I'll keep with my Sony 18-135mm and my Sigma 100-400mm. But if I had to choose, I'd probably save the cash and get the 150-600mm.

    No, actually, thank you for reviewing this! You have the biggest influence when I was choosing my camera. I just wish I listened to you and all of them, but I ended with a Leica. So, now, I can only afford a Leica 24-70. I tried the Panasonic 70-200 f2.8 but it drains my SL2-s’ battery rapidly! So, I had to return it and bought a new laptop and enrolled in a photography class. Now, I discovered Sigma, which is basically the Leica Japanese lenses rehoused and I’m willing to stop snubbing other glass. I want a telephoto lens. I’m thinking of getting this.

    Still going with the Sony 200-600 vs either of these, especially for $2000. Hard to beat that lens. Nice offering for people who want the 70-200 range, however.

      Also great to pair with the S5 II, since older Sigma lenses with stepper motor can't keep up with the new PDAF and there's no native super tele. On Sony... it's pretty much impossible to beat the 200-600 for the price.

I've also had the Sigma 150-600 C and I now have the Nikon 200-500mm and I've always taken them on all of my hikes.

    I am SL2-S shooter and I’m glad the L-Mount alliance exists, 1:48. - The image quality of Leica raw files is outstanding good and in opposite to Canon and Sony there are plenty of details in the shadows AND highlights. In comparison, Canon and Sony have no details in the shadows and Canon also suffers at the highlights. I avoid to speak of the Sony colours, specially at low light. Nikon has plenty details in the shadows but you easily get blown highlights. In opposite to F and EF mount, Z and RF mount are worst ever at sun stars. At least the Z lenses (S line) are awesome, edge to edge sharp also wide open, no chromatic aberration and diffraction also at f/16, they can compete with the Leica lenses. - If the SL3 and SL3-S come with the same updates like the Q3 (first Leica with phase detect AF), I expect even more such as a stacked sensor, L-Mount alliances rules. Wanna bet the Panasonic Lumix S line will get similar updates?

    I have the Sigma 150-600 C and its great. Abit on the heavier side and the focus distance is a tad far, but you usually dont stick that lens into someones face...
    This lens seems to be as good in quality, but comes with more reach and closer focus, but its 40% heavier than the 150-600 at almost 3kg holy shit xD

It’s been confirmed many times that canon isn’t going to allow it. I just don’t get how you’re trying to make Sony look worse than Nikon and canon when it comes to 3rd party support… especially when Sony is the only one out of the 3 who actually has 3rd party. 30 fps ➡️ 15 fps at 7:31 is a Sony restriction for third party lenses. That’s the true reason for the limitation to 15 fps. I can’t understand why they made such a short lens foot, you can’t balance the lens on a gimbal.
