- After looking all summer we have found a Small Budget Sailboat to buy. It's a 1978 Valiant 32. It still need some work but a lot of the heavy lifting has been done. It has a new engine, new rigging, new thru-hulls. It's not perfect by any stretch, but we felt good on the boat and decided to buy it. Hopefully everything works out!

Congrats! Those Valiants were well designed and well-built, just had that blister problem which can be dealt with using good barrier coatings. What really makes your boat a good buy is the new diesel, rigging, and thru-hulls - some expensive work has already been accomplished and will allow you to concentrate on other upgrades.
Having it repowered was a big selling point for us!

Congratulations look forward to seeing some of your adventures me and my wife also intend on living on a boat just got to wrap things up for a couple more years We just got a Minn Kota 30 lb thrust like 114 at Bi-Mart grabbed an old car battery and that thing runs for pretty substantial length pretty light and easy to put in your boat are channels called Santana 28 restoration and sailing you can see how well the little Motor Works

don't you need the survey to insure and be able to go to marinas?
We insured through state farm, they didn't require a survey since our boat was worth less than $50,000. We actually have full insurance not just liability for 70$ a month which we felt was good especially since we have little experience
Typically companies will require a survey though
Uniflite = hull blisters.
