i dont think this arc was the best but it is definitely my personal favorite introducing yoshiwara and expanding upon the yato was great. a lot of memorable moments, some of my favorite comedy scenes and gags like gintoki and co. getting stabbed by the kunai. love this arc

If you stop to think the only thing which makes Gintoki a non-villain is his lost of reason to live after his soul broke, while the villains (a lot at least) tried to find some meaning for their souls but it was in vain at the end, or wasn't the solution they wanted
Yoshiwara arc is really underappreciated. The introduction of new characters, the decisive battles , the atmosphere and the story were all very beautiful to the very end. Not saying it's the best arc out there but definitely a very solid arc. Loved the amv! Lots of love and support ❤

When making this I also started to love the arc way more!! In addition to the fights the new characters are introduced very well (kamui, hosen, hinowa, seta, tsukki) and I thought the seta hinowa scenes were actually very emotional. But man I am yelous of you, things will be starting to get even better very soon after episode 288

YOOOOO WELCOME BACK. This opening (or was it ending) isn't as much of a banger as the later songs but just how you positioned the scenes was so good!! I had chills.
Yoshiwara arc is so good because it's so feminists at it's core it's crazy it's so underappreciated in media. The centre of the conflict is Hinowa vs House, a feminine figure vs a toxic masculinity personified. The baffling thing is Gorilla pulled it really well. Hinowa win not because she girlbosses above House, her kind and strong soul attracted so many people it's inspired them to stand up. Tsukuyo who inspired by her soul manage to convince her squad to stand up against Housen. So when the Hyakka and Tsukuyo arrived to help Gintoki with the shot of all the girls armed and ready to fight it's so uplifting to see. It's doing the "Yeah, all the girls are here", thing that the Avengers do but flawlessly. Even in the end after dealing the final blow Housen died not on Gintoki's blade, but on Hinowa's lap. Housen finally admitted his weakness on Hinowa, something that he wouldn't do before and would rather die in bloody battle. And Hinowa is tending the old man to die peacefully on her lap. It shows that being a kind heart it's not a weakness, as long you don't cower on life and keep on strong, even you can't take up arms. Hinowa is just a prostitute who locked in a cage in endless night, but it's her who caused the downfall of the king of Yato, one of the strongest being in the planet. It's seriously one of the best feminist story I've ever seen.
So true! I love gintama for how sorachi wrote the female characters. I feel like the courtesan of a nation arc is an even better example of how empowering it is for any female viewer. Gintama is truly a gem, who would've taught the shonen featuring the most insane and nonsensical comedy would be one of the only shonen that writes its female cast as real character, not just fan service or support for the protagonist.
@@nctsgrass Yes! The female characters are one reason why Gintama is my favorite anime. The main anime I'd watched previously was Fairy Tail and it made me hate fanservice. I'd see it everywhere in other shows and would wish that a show like Fairy Tail didn't rely so heavily on it as it was starting to feel a little insulting. The women in Gintama are treated with real respect and are total badasses! Plus, they all look cool AF.
@@JohnSydney225 Damn, fairy tail was an anime I watched a ton of as a preteen (way before gintama) and it made me despise fanservice too! I kept hoping for some character development to go towards Lucy's way but +200 episodes in the only change was her boobs growing bigger and the frequency at which she'd end up half naked following a battle increasing tenfold. I just couldn't stand it anymore and dropped the whole thing. (Every arc was repetitive af anyways) Then I noticed how quite common it was in shonen, and I won't lie it definitely affected how I felt about anime in general. Gintama came in as such a fresh breeze of air, and the way the female characters are written also made it my absolute fave animanga out there (well along with multiple other reasons of course).
Kagayaita (輝いた) is from from kagayaku (輝く, "to shine"). Gintama always has such good song choices for its openings and endings.
That's why Gintama became my favorite one. It's just perfect.
