The dragon nonchalantly scrolling through a smartphone while a fight was happening in the temple has been in the back of my mind since the first time I watched, I’m still super happy with the lion cub getting a friend while the cat gets to be the temple’s official mouser for her kittens 🥰

this us such a lovely story. obviously the animators originated from china but the representation in such a story is so heartwarming for me as a half chinese american girl who isn't as connected to their roots as they wish to be

Anyway in the title it says 小石獅, which means little stone lion - it's a kind of magical (?) creature in Chinese culture. I hear it's often called Fu Dog in the West which I have no idea why lol. Also just noticed now you mentioned komainu in Japanese culture. THAT is indeed a mix of lion and dog (or so I heard). They're slightly different to me, but maybe they share the same origin or something idk.
