Stone lifting represent building of Ramsethu bridge by Vanara army using heavy stones. This way the army got their exercise, strength and endurance to face Ravana's army. The point was to lift heavy stones and carry them to throw them in the sea facing backside. That's why our ancestors placed stones in the vicinity of Hanuman temple to practice this process.

Even my father's maternal uncle had got trophies and other prices for doing 2000 or 3000 dand and baithaks in his days . Damn I feel unlucky to discover this so late in life. But I am grateful I discovered these old Indian exercises nevertheless. Better late than never.

      Welcome,
Lifting stones are heavy natural stones which people are challenged to lift, proving their strength. They are common throughout world.
In Iceland, lifting stones were traditionally used to qualify men for work on fishing boats,
      The stones are classified as:
amlóði ("useless") at 23 kg (50.7 pounds)
hálfdrættingur ("weakling") at 54 kg (119 pounds)
hálfsterkur ("half strength") at 100 kg (220.5 pounds)
fullsterkur ("full strength") weighing 154 kg (339.5 pounds)
One of the most famous Icelandic stones is the husafell stone which weighs 186 kg (410 lb).
manhood stones", originate from Scotland. Manhood stones were used for centuries as tests of strength in Scotland. Typically, a young man was welcomed into manhood when he was able to lift his clan's testing stone to waist height.[
There are many examples in Scotland including:
      The McGlashen Stones
the Inver Stone (121.6 kg (268 pounds)
The dinnie stones two stones weighing 332.49 kg (733 pounds) combined. 188.02 kg (414.51 pounds) and 144.47 kg (318.5 pounds)
