Chinese Food Sichuan - Chinese Street Food - Street Food China
Chinese food gets more interesting the deeper you go. I set off for Chinese street food and cuisine in deep southern Sichuan province by bicycle. I rode my bike down deep into Southern China's lush and mountainous liangshan region, in search of delicious Chinese street food and Chinese food. The Chinese food really was different in this region. The liangshan region is home to Chinese Yi ethnic minority, who have their own cuisine. It was very rural and in some areas also very poor, so I had difficulty finding the yi cuisine at first. Later in the second half of the video, I found a Yi restaurant and had a Chinese food feast! The little village I visited was called Butuo, about 120 km from Xichang.

HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

How come u speak Chinese so fluently? When did you learn Chinese?

It felt good to be there.. From Dhaka Bangladesh
Wow! You really made it into the deep countryside! You're so different from most food bloggers who visit only the most famous spots. Respect!
This is a rural area in a remote mountainous area 6 years ago, but even if you go and see it today, it is completely different, with brand new streets, many farmers have bought houses in cities, and almost every family has a car.
This is a food review that goes deeper than stuffing your mouth. The way the woman asked you for water, the way you shared your huge luxury meal. It puts a deeper meaning to food. We are blessed to have food and drink at our leisure. Thanks for your true authenticity.
definitely Sun; shows a capacity for both's love and caring - what our poor little planet need so much now ;

who else thinks the houses and buildings design is just INSANELY beautiful
7:07 that lady is so kind, one potato was enough for her although she's poor. Her smile was so beautiful although she may not knew what is Canada.
She was not actually asking for food, she was just like accepting a friendly share of food from a stranger so she says one is enough. Sharing food to show friendliness is common in Chinese rural area and culture.
Canada sounds like “where is your home”in Chinese ,so she asked twice times...Maybe she still can’t understand Canada is a country
@@zlz95 Yep she knows she can repay the same kindness because it's just a potato that's why she took it.
吖吖爱吃肉 Canada?加拿大?家哪哒?😂
She knows what Canada is ... 3 rotting in jail for No fault of theirs
This guy makes me understand and love being human. Crossing boundaries to see how other people live is so beautiful, not to mention living with them.
I usually hate food reviewing channels because all they do is set up a cheap camera on their dash and eat some new fast food item, however this channel is filled with enthusiasm and happiness. Glad I found this channel a few weeks ago.
He really goes balls deep in the Chinese culture.
+skagworm Leaves just the chopsticks hangin out
Rural china is really beautifull . The roads look really developed even in rural regions and the food looks great
that's possibly the poorest region you can find in China... yet it is beautiful, both landscape and people, and I'd like to visit for once in my lifetime!

vaibhav shukla see rural China has much similarity with India. Kids working on fields for feeding their stomach
@@hellonrld2508 No. Don't try to hide your slums. We all know about them
@@rishabh9389 no i didn't hide and they cannot be hidden, it's just a matter of having a good weekend in a beautiful yet possibly poor place lol.
i love how they brought you a big plate of potatoes, and you didnt really know what to do with them. So you give a potato to one of the locals, and she looked equally confused 😂
i wish this video was longer, great vid amazing experience that had to be
strongly suggest u watching the 'a bite of china'
I wish that too
Amazing! That is the true spirit of exploration! Maybe one day I'll try it myself. Cheers from Brazil matte!

omg i love how kind and open you were to everyone. the food reviews were also great! thank you!!
Speaking the language goes so far you can tell on the locals faces! Wonderful video!
Agreed!! It's insane to me that, unlike you, there are negative ppl who do nothing but point out the flaws in his pronunciation. You and I are in the minority of ppl who appreciate his attempts at their language. I say, all u need to do is look at the way the ppl he meets appreciate him
Amazing videos!! Seeing them living such a simple and happy life just make the video super enjoyable!! 👍
Hard life, but still happy
👍
Yi people are one of the poorest ethnic minority in China. Not sure how you define happiness, but life there is really hard.
The person who made the original comment is a person who has had wealth all of their life. Only people who have been well off say things like that and don't really understand a lot of people are just trying to make it.
Not sure where you saw "Happiness", I think most of these people were just surprised to be on camera. He said part way through the video kids were out working the fields instead of in school, and a lady was desperate for water. At the end you saw a boy who had no idea what "Canada" even was. The last part was super odd... why would you give someone a potato unless you thought they were desperate for food?
You giving a potato to stranger shows you humanity. You are so friendly.
Nice video and an awsome Food Ranger.
Wow man, this was amazing.
Hey Siddharth! Glad you enjoyed the video!

太好了!!!!!! U crack me up when u say that! It is like you are super-stoned or just super-Canadian ;) just a real nice guy i think, good job, peace from Fujian.
Id say super canadian
He's so excited about everything :). The locals probably weren't used to someone as energetic and exuberant about everything as he is. The lady was pretty taken aback when he offered her a potato lol. Also, his Chinese is quite good. You can tell he's definitely not a native speaker, but very proficient, and he can understand just about everything they say.
Your chinese skills impressed me and actually made me think that it's about time to start learning chinese myself.
Great video man, i will go there one day too and meet these beautiful people

if only we can speak and understand the entire language of the world, we might as human can unite. This is beautiful to see him exploring and communicating, you can see that humans are kind, only the languages are seperating us.

+Fred Stiening Very interesting, never heard of it. Thanks for sharing, i learned something valuable today. ✌🤗
Very true!!!

i loved you shared food with that lady 👍

She had a "I don't want your stinkin potatoes, I'll accept one because courtesy, but that's plenty" look :D was so awkward.. "You want me to dance and sing for you now, that you gave me a potato?".
She probably grows her own potatoes lol

Absolutely amazing review! Great work Trevor
"WOWWW I have no idea how we're gonna eat all that!!" hahahah!! You are the best. Keep rockin!!
How does he know the language fluently? I've been trying to learn the Korean way of saying hello for three days
A ni a say yo!
+jo ki Is that Hello in Korean? if it is, I still can't remember it 😂
+Tazzii K I think it is more along the lines of annyeonghaseyo, but I'm not Korean so don't take my word for it
Tazzii K ahh I see, no problem :)
apparently he tried speaking chinese for more than 3 days. :)
you knows it bad news when hes goes like "Mmmmmm" then escalates to "it okays. its alright."
lol.....
That's because he did it wrong - supposed to soak the fried dough into the sweet soy milk, like how you would eat cereal
:p
Yes, he didn't like the soup or the buckwheat cakes. Never saw that happen before. Usually he will drink pure cooking oil with rotten fish heads and declare it as amazing.

thank for video this place. I was there for voluntary work 7 years ago. it's still suffering from extreme poverty today, but its food is awesome and primitive. I am in Canada now, missing the food in china so much.
This is good and best one I saw.
Wow thanks so much buddy!

Awesome vid Trevor. It's great that you take your show out of the cities and show us the rural China and her minorities. More of the same please.
No More same place. Liangshan is one of the poorest areas in China. But it is a great place to find original food.
So what if it's the poorest place in China? China is many worlds in one. There should be more shows like this to document them, rich or poor.
Hey buddy! Thanks a lot! Great to hear from you! Yeah there are so many awesome places in China!
Really enjoyed watching this. The food looked DELICIOUS !
I would of sooooo tried some of it, I like trying new kinds of food.

it's crazy how rural you guys were willing to 'bike' to. This is the China my mom's family grew up in, it's primitive but good to see there's still these kind of villages (I' m sure there're still plenty) around. It's hard life.

She looks like she could be anyone one or a combination of the 56 different ethnic groups in China. But since Trevor mentioned Yi minority in the video and his description, I'm going to go with Yi minority or Yi mix.
Get over yourself, good looks does not equate to healthiness. That and good genes trumps everything.
very enjoyable to watch your adventures. great job man!
Your awesome 👍🏻thanks for sharing these great videos, please keep them coming🙏
this video makes me feel hungry :P
Just telling you you're supposed to dip the Chinese doughnut in the soy milk
Yes, dip in soya milk. Although in Hong Kong they put the you-tiao in porridge.
icewarm2 lol is it true you dig youtiao in coffee in Singapore?
Tekhelet75 it sounds like a very typical combination of east and west
And soy sauce in Shanghai.
Dipping in sweet soy milk sounds delicious. In Hong Kong they dip it in the rice porridge, which I am not a fan of suffice to say.
Mind blowing!!!! The beautiful landscape and those yummy foodies...

Youtiao should be dipped in soy sauce for flavour, and the porridge will balance the flavour out or it can be eaten with soy milk (the classic combination). It can also be paired with dabing (大饼), dabing can either be savoury or sweet depending on your personal preference. P.S the combination of youtiao and dabing is commonly found in Shanghai.
Oh and one more combination, youtiao can be wrapped in cifan which is glutinous rice along with some sugar. That's one of my personal favourites.
Sharing food was great brother.
