The reason I'm here!!! 😂 I just said Stubbville, with my best Owen impression & my wife had no clue! So off to RUclips I went once again, to prove I'm not insane.........and store useless information, impeccably!!!
I've seen this guy in like so many movies more modern. It's so funny to see him get his star in this movie so long ago. I also saw him in changing lanes. And I think Spider-Man 3. This guy just pops up in so many things and it seems like he's gotten bigger rolls since then
This scene has stuck in my mind ever since it was filmed. It's GOT to be one of the funniest moments in comedy film, ever. This could cause involuntary peeing, be warned!
This whole movie is a gem. When they lose control of the car and they are sitting on Del's trunk to pull them selves together with their back to the car. The "Whoosh" from the car going up in flames and you see the fire lighting up their backs. Man that is funny.
On another video posted here the actress who played his wife said that face was genuine. Because Steve Martin is a germaphobe. The director told the actor to do that unscripted.
Dylan’ experessions killed me when I first saw the movie, like total laugh out loud moment. I only got to know him as Dr. Connors from Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and to see him in this was a pleasant surprise, playing a memorable oddball cameo no less
It's a treasured classic I'd annually watch on Thanksgiving Day, thanks to the comedic performances of Martin and Candy. But it isn't the same since the passing of beloved John. I wish he was still with us. RIP, Big Man.
Great movie, and Owen's truck reminds me of my Dad. He drove a '69 C-10 and it was the first automobile I ever rode in. Too bad he traded it before I learned to drive at age 13.
@@fredwerza3478 He's got simplicity about him. Even looking at details such as the way he talks about that 7 outlet chain in the Pacific Northwest, in spite of having a card for it and it being a place which offers them no help in the bind they're in, he still joyfully expresses about it "Great stuff". Del's simple, he's someone who's able to enjoy a pleasant evening just with a cup of hot chocolate and a movie and doesn't need anything else besides that to feel better. People with deeper more complex minds aren't able to enjoy such a limit of resources, and are constantly worrying about the what-ifs in life and need way more than a couple of simple pleasures to help them feel better at all
I never realized until years later that Dylan Baker portraying the oddball Owen also portrayed the "so particular" Alexander Rance in the movie the road to perdition (2002).

I try so hard to contain myself but it’s tears the moment he has the first snorting twitch every time and game over when he does at after mentioning the hog train 😂😂😭😭
One of my favorite lines of any movie ever! What’s funny is that we had six kids in six years. The second one came out sideways, she didn’t scream or nothing.
I used to have a VHS (remember those?) of this film that we recorded off television (remember when we did that?)- albeit a rather censored version, because they had cut out all the F-words that Neal uses at the receptionist after failing to find the car he wanted to hire, to make it transmittable at the time it had originally aired when we taped it. I watched it many times as a child, but this is the one scene where my mother always insisted on walking out of the room and making me tell her when it was "safe" for her to come back into it, because she was so repulsed by this Owen character. Such memories!
And it's probably precisely because I've always had my eyes instinctively on Owen due to what I've just described that I've only, this instant, on watching this very clip, noticed Neal's look of horror at 2:24-2:27 over the idea of a baby "coming out sideways."
@@frankcampbell4144 I never really thought of it that way, but you're probably right. I was lucky enough to get a machine that can play both VHS tapes and DVDs at just the right time, before people started buying films that they already had on VHS all over again. It's good to feel nostalgic sometimes.
May 2023 : I travelled planes trains & automobiles this week to Wichita from Australia 🇦🇺 Got a train from Dallas to Oaklahoma and then a Bus to Wichita. ‘Cos the train don’t run outta Wichita!’ 😂 The Heartland Flyer from Fort Worth was a blast, the Texan accent is something else!
Apparently he did most of the Owen scene ad lib. As well as that he really shook steve martins hand after spitting in it. The woman who played his wife apparently couldn't stop laughing. You can kind of see this on her face as she gets out of the truck. I can watch this 100 times over and still laugh my head off. Great talent all around.
A masterpiece ….. this whole movie was just an incredible piece of art on so so many levels …. This scene is crazy wonderful
Wish they still made comedies as good as they use to 😢

Ditto on that. This guy was beautiful! Great casting and acting!
Best comedy of all time. No question.
lol ;)
The handshake is such a simple gag, it was masterfully done, it is hilarious every time!
Martin is a germ freak.
They didn't warn Martin it was going to happen, knowing he was a germ freak, and he'd give a realistic look on his face.
It's amazing how timeless this is. I live in Kansas and there are definitely folks JUST like this guy still around.
Do women really have babies that come out sideways and don't scream or nothin?
Men who snort?
Trumpers? Or Bidenurs?
Most of them move up from east Texas.

first baby at 13. It's not in the script but she is young looking.

Dylan Baker's great in this scene. That phlegm snorting thing he does is classic.
Has that guy ever played a NON creep. Not criticizing. He's a good actor but a bit typecast.
He played the mild-mannered pre-transformation Dr Connors in Spiderman 2 and 3.
He’s a great fifth man in Anchorman 2.
