  • Dr. Bumpus gives some quick updates about recent FDA News.
You may be interested in these quick updates. I’m Dr. Namandjé Bumpus, Principal Deputy Commissioner at the FDA.
Recently we launched the Prescribe with Confidence campaign. More than an estimated 6 million people have Opioid Use Disorder, also known as OUD. This is a chronic health condition treatable with medication and primary care providers can help.
There are may be people with OUD who could benefit from treatment. Help us raise awareness by checking out the free resources at fda.gov/prescribewithconfidence
Also in May. FDA approved three interchangeable biosimilars. Two of these medications treat macular degeneration and other eye conditions, and one treats certain rare blood diseases. Much like how generic drugs are routinely substituted for brand name drugs, an interchangeable biosimilar may be substituted for the reference, or brand product. Meaning it can help increase access to these products.
Additional information about these medications, including their risks and side effects, can be found on FDA’s biosimilar product information webpage.
And before you go, a couple things that you can participate in. First, I want to highlight that on June 13th FDA will host a virtual public discussion on Engaging the Generations as part of the 4th Annual National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week.
We encourage you to tune in - registration is free! Consider how your family, advocacy organization, cancer care colleagues and institutions can participate in the weeklong social media campaign using #BlackFamCan.
Lastly, on June 13th, FDA will hold a virtual listening session to hear from the public on advisory committees. We want to hear your thoughts and feedback on advisory committees. Participation is free - and you can go to the meetings section on FDA.gov to register to watch the meeting.
Thanks for participating, and for watching!
