I'm a former track and field distance runner and there were some runners who were muscular as hell but they didn't have the lungs to go on for miles at a specific pace and intensity. Some could do both sprinting and distance running. I always thought distance runners were better athletes in terms of lungs, but nowadays I see the sprinters and distance runners equally in terms of ability and fitness levels. It's just that what they do is very different. Although you can have athletes who are amazing in different sports. Michael Jordan was a good baseball player, but is/was the greatest Basketball player for his abilities and competitiveness.
