The moment you said "you're getting old" just made me realise how time just flew... 9 years ago i started watching your channel.. i was 21 years old... I'm 30 now 😂... May god bless you with good health.. you have really motivated a lot of architects. I'm one of them
Great ideas. For any designers or architects that don't get on a job site, DO IT! Early on in my practice, I actually built a couple of houses to be sure that my designs weren't just "pretty pictures" that someone else had to sort out. It has been very rewarding to be able to discuss projects with all the trades and to be knowledgeable about each of their disciplines. It gives the client and the subs confidence in your designs and ideas. Great video, Eric.
Thanks, Rob...! I couldn't agree more. As a young professional, I was always the most intimidated by visiting the job site, I was green and I knew very little about how to put a building together. Some 25 years later, I take every chance I can get. Learning opportunities, problem-solving, the chance to improve our design, and the depth of construction knowledge carried forward via the tradespeople we interact with makes them so rewarding. Thanks for watching!
You are sooo much organized in all the aspects, starting from the Planning, Presentation levels, drawing details, check lists, calender planning... everything.. I should learn everything from you.❤️
Sometimes the importance of site visits and the interaction between the actual builders and craftspersons are often underestimated. lt is one of the best learning experiences for an architect...my best teacher was 'Eddie', a building supervisor who l would often bounce up on the larger projects. His wealth of knowledge was critical to the smooth progress of the site works. His ability to forsee gaps in the documentation provided to him, was amazing. Thanks...for reminding us of those moments and lessons that were freely given by all and to all on site. 'Be always prepared'...was one of his most potent statements and advice. John Ferraz Architect.
Thanks for sharing, John...totally agree on the invaluable experience we gain on the job site. I really look forward to meeting and learning from tradespeople during construction. Learning the art of building can't be taught in the classroom. Cheers... Eric
An RWU Architecture graduate here as well. Love your channel and ideas. One of the things I recently made for my site visits: I took an old Star D camera tripod and mounted a piece of plywood so I can binder clip a pad to it so I have a mobile "desk". Going to modify it slightly so there is a small storage area under the pad for different pens/markers and a small rain cover. Keep the great videos coming!
I must say this is your best video from technical perspective. Really well composed. It's so satisfying to watch a video like this where the background music doesn't destroy the narrator's voice. 10/10 Eric!
You have the dream architect lifestyle I aspire to achieve! No boss, (except the client ) just making content, AND working. This is the life I was sold in uni and after everything that has happened I realize that this lifestyle is incredibly rare. You're like an architect/influencer with the 360 camera/drone and all the other gear you carry around 😂
Hi, Jasmine...Thanks for the kind words + support, I appreciate it! I think the reason it's perceived as 'rare' or 'unattainable' is because it requires a lot of effort to make content. My system relies on working with one client at a time and using that work as the basis for the content I make. It really does work! I like the small things you have that I wouldn't have thought of myself like the little sticker, so smart idea instead of marking everything by hand with either your name or company name, very nice detail! Although not an architecture student I might be going into a 3D artist program focusing on rooms, furniture etc.
Great content! Being well organized and prepared made the task even more enjoyable. I used to wear a waist bag in my site visits, so I had handy my measure tape, pencil , little note pad etc, while I was climbing walls and making measurements.
I'm a project manager and I can relate to a lot of things I could be implementing whilst on construction works and major projects. Subscribed! Great video and a great channel.

Thanks for the gear list ! I'm gonna suggest buying a 360 camera for the office ! The amount of pictures we take in our rehab projects just to make sure we don't forget anything in the drawings is absurd and really time consuming ...

@@30by40 I'll be watching this video again since i switched off my ears when the Outpost made an appearance! Nice it see it progressing since your last update. The versitility of the lowpro bags are great. I've got one as a 'travel' photography bag with my main bag being a Thinktank which also has the padded dividers which allow for a bit of flexibility with what you want to put in them.
Getting closer and closer to 1 mil subs Eric! Great video as usual. Always like the subtle calm background music, previously you've said you use epidemicsound... do you type any keyword or specific genre to find these type of tracks?
Cheers...appreciate the support. On ES, I search for: ambient + high rhythmic drones and that seems to yield results. As you probably know, finding the right one can take time! Good luck...
I'd love to do the red text and dimensions to set apart notes from the black and white plans and elevations, but I started receiving kick-back from townships who perform the plan review/permit approvals because they do all of their markups in red and told me to stop with the red text because it confuses them on what is on the drawing originally, and what they marked up.
I see you use Notion for your corporate documents. aren't you afraid of losing stuff? How do you make a backup in case Notion crashes? There isn't an efficient way to export your notion stuff to an external harddrive, or is there?

Isn't that a huge risk to take for a simple commodity like a planning service?
