My favorite game design choice. Almost everyone in the world has new dialogue at the end of the game and you’re free to check in on whoever you want. It’s overwhelming.
In Onnet, one of the houses has a girl that tells you “I’m playing Earthbound right now” and when you go back after, she says “I just finished Earthbound”
It's not just Fourside's theme. It's also the theme for the opening demo! It also shows up in several other places, including the Hospital theme and the MOTHER 1+2 album version of Humoresque of a Little Dog/Buy Somethin' Will Ya.
"Dear Jeff, Everything's really going great here. I wish I could have gone with you on your adventure, even just part of the way, but instead I'm sitting here, waiting for you in Winters. I want to see you again as soon as possible. I can't wait to see your cheerful face. I bet your glasses are dirty...If you come back, I'll clean them for you! Like I said, I'm waiting for you. Yours truly, Tony P.S. Don't show this letter to anyone!" Crying.
Earthbound was my hyperfixation when my abusive best friend of 3 years was taken away from me. For a month after she left, it was the only thing keeping me alive. It's hard for me to look back at it. It makes me think of that era where I was so broken over everything, not being able to survive without EarthBound. I'm trying to reclaim it, but it still makes me want to cry. This soundtrack is beautiful.
Most RPG games would have a victorious fanfare and a cutscene when you defeat the final boss. Not Earthbound. Earthbound’s ending manages to be bittersweet. Even if you did manage to kill Giygas and save the galaxy, you have to say goodbye to all your friends that you’ve come so far with. And who knows if you’ll ever see them again?
And where the HELL did Pokey Minch go? Did he just end up in the middle of Nowhere? Also according to Smash, Poo canonically (?) taught Ness Psi Starstorm after the events of EarthBound.
I don't know how this game did it. Despite not having much dialogue between the characters, i was so invested by the end of the game. That boss fight where everyone prays for you was so emotional. For like 90% of the game I just thought it was just dumb fun, but then I have to say goodbye and suddenly im almost in tears. I don't know if this game had any deeper meanings, but it was still so impactful for me.
I wasn’t almost in tears. I was genuinely sobbing. My mom came in my room and asked why I was so sad and I couldn’t form a coherent sentence to explain I just finished the best games of all time and now there’s sad music.
My current boyfriend showed me this game a year ago. I played it because I wanted to have more things in common with him. I fell in love with this game and its soundtrack and I love more all the references we share. This is one of my favorite songs from Mother 2 and everytime I listen to it, I think in my boyfriend and how much I love him. If he sees this: Babe, I love you ♡ I'm proud of you, you're strong and I believe in you. All this is for you *because I love you*
I've wanted my brother to experience the magic of this game for the past 15 years. I just turned 30 and still feel as young as when I first played this. You're all too amazing! Thank you.
Every game in this series has successfully made me cry. Although for Earthbound's case I didn't want the adventure to end. It was a fun ride through and through. The whole series for that matter...
Absolutely beautiful. I see how Undertale did the same thing in the true pacifist ending, when you're about to leave, just with the OST "reunited", which is just as beautiful as this one.
When things seem to get dark When no luck seems by my side I remember who you are And all the talks we had Makes me feel warm in my heart Because I love ya
So i was thrown into a dream last night that made me come find this theme. I was thrown into specific events of Mother 1 and 2 to view in my perspective, and the amount of times that dream made me wanna "give up and go home" made me appreciate just how courageous Ness and the gang is... and when i heard this music start up it really did signify "you made it through the dark, you can rest now".
