  • Under pressure.. You have to know when to hold them and when to fold them. My trips are usually measured in miles and hours on the water. BUT colder days when the sun isn't shining very long means you have to stick close to the truck. Today I was fishing the extremely pressured section of the Current River right below Montauk State Park. We managed to make something happen but it took some serious grind. This is why I love to have a Blue Ribbon plan "B" in my back pocket at all times. Winter is slow. Winter is a grind. But don't let that stop you.

    I was there in July and walked about a half mile downstream from the wire without seeing anyone else. Saw a lot of guys heading down to the next access too. Had 12 on the day. I really like that section just down from the park. I saw the biggest brown I've ever seen in my life in the first hole from the wire with the heavy current.

    Merry Christmas Mike, both streams that helped develop my fly fishing affliction. I'm heading out that way for a couple days this week! Unfortunately those fellas must have lost their way from the park.

    Trout stamps in every state should come with a handout explaining high-holing and how it can ruin another’s entire day on the water. Most folks aren’t being intentionally rude, they just don’t have a clue.

    Great video, I love the narration and editing. thank you for featuring missouri streams! Blue springs and little piney creeek etc have much less pressure, it is hard for me to fish Montauk due to high pressure. I would love to see videos from 11 point and white river in missouri :) also Beaver bend state park in S. E. oklahoma is a great area as well

    Nice day and a great video. People are people and likely don’t know any better. However, there are those few who reason that, “this is just as much my river as yours….” or, “I paid for my fishing license and pay taxes just like you do…..” whatever the reason, it is much better just to let it be. Thanks again for showcasing Missouri’s wonderful trout streams and rivers.

    I used to throw on a high vis dry before those 20-24 tricos or midges. But had more issues with refusals of the bigger dry then them turning off the trico, drag, wind knots with the larger dry twisting that 7x etc. Have found just a very slight dab of indicator putty on the tippet knot to be the best for me so far. Tricos on the current is one of my faves!

    I too see tree overhangs and know I'll be catching fish! Another great video. Missouri looks like it has a lot to offer. F those hole encroachers. That's annoying. I had that happen in NM. I was in some rapids and this dude just popped right above me and then never left. He was always 75ft in front of me messing up the spots before I got there. Super annoying. Local or not you don't do that.

    First off - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Mike! I have to say that you handled the inexperience, or indifference, of those other anglers well. I've experienced the same, and instead of gently notifying the other party of their infraction (and eliciting the standard shocked surprise and lack of accountability) I have used the situation to find other water that I normally wouldn't have considered. Sometimes it's a boom, sometimes it's a bust, but at least I get to maintain that state of mellow flow which is a big part of why I'm out there. Keep up the great videos and just being a downright decent human being, and let Karma deal with the rest.

    • @FLYALLSZN

      Rob!! Thank you so much same to you and yours! An interaction like this is always tough.. but I couldn’t agree more.. much easier to just find a plan B that’s a little more empty.

    Another nice video. When the fish are being selective during the hatch it could be they’re taking emergers. I’ve had a few days where swinging a size 18 or 20 starling and purple was able to crack the code. Those Missouri blue ribbon streams look interesting. Hopefully I can try fishing one of them next year.

      @rickwright3046 2 года назад

      I love RRSP. It's where I learned to love fly fishing and, yes, you can have some epic days all year long there. But for me (and I think for Mike as well) there is just something about the intellectual challenge of catching wild rainbows in Missouri's blue ribbon waters that is a much more spiritual experience that can't compare to the parks. Don't get me wrong...I love Missouri's trout parks. But give me just one 6 in. wild rainbow in complete solitude on a small blue ribbon creek in mid-MO any day over 25 14-inchers in a trout park with spin fishers 50 feet from me. To each his own.

    • @andrewparisotto2631
      @andrewparisotto2631 2 года назад +1

      @@rickwright3046 thats why we fish the catch and release season there and in the summer its harder to catch fish there than any “wild” type stream ive been to because they see so many lines every year especially the big ones those fish are the most line shy ive ever seen shit most of the fish in taney are damn near wild and they arent as shy as the fish at RRSP but im not the new style fly fisherman either i dont care about being sophisticated or pretentious about how i catch my fish personally but like you said to each their own
