original air date: 12/26/1977 "Christmas has not been delivered to our house", says Margo Leadbetter. Richard Briers, Felicity Kendal, Penelope Keith and Paul Eddington
Penelope Keith should be officially recognized as one of England's national treasures....her lovely smile, sharp, lethal wit and wonderfully modulated voice personifies the beauty of the English language...she will always be "Dame Penelope" to me.
I watched "Yes Minister" and also, "Yes, Prime Minister". Paul Eddington, (God rest his soul and hide him under your wing) is a terrific actor. I am definitely watching this show.
Barbara is who I think I should be and sometimes am however Margo tends to be my default! Lol! this is a show which endures- my adult kids love it too.
I must confess that I fancied Penelope Keith much more than Felicity Kendall when I was young (and still do). I know Felicity was seen as sexy and glamorous but Penelope had this wonderful haughty froideur that you just knew would melt into unrestrained passion, in private of course. While others watched and enjoyed the jolly chemistry and relaxed charm of the Goods, my teenage self pictured the upright and orthodox Margo and Jerry with the curtains drawn. It's safe to say these things now, isn't it? ;~)
...if there is a war (just for the arguing sake) and I am to be invaded by someone, please let it be by the English sitcoms...I'll provide the whisky and whatever more they may ask, complimentary on me...
margo: naturly i asked to speak to the highest person there jerry: naturly who did you get margo: Fred an incompetent loon who styled him self asistant caretaker so funny
Dame Margot Leadbetter brought me here. Fantastic news! She was my first grown-up crush as a kid. I understand the phrase is "milf" these days. Vulgar, but accurate.

Good Neighbors would not be the show it was without Margo...

Beautifully said.
My sentiments exactly. I think it was her RP accent that got me. Pure class.
And Jerry's reaction...
