  • The Bic Cristal Xtra Bold pen has been out for a few years now and features a 1.6mm ballpoint, which creates a thicker and bolder line. These pens are generally sold in packages of eight or 10 pens in an assortment of colors.

    These, paired with a smooth legal pad, are a dream. I've been putting the cartridges in hotel-branded bics and bic clones for literal "sleeper" pens.
    The ink does get depleted very fast, though!
    If this ink were in a "premium" pen, people would absolutely perceive it as such.

    • @DinnerForkTongue
      @DinnerForkTongue Год назад +2

      They really are, although I don't use them for normal writing. My handwriting is tiny and with a bold ballpoint it's almost guaranteed to smudge and blot.

    Bic’s newer ink system is less spotty and skippy so I’m surprised they didn’t put it into this pen too.

      Maybe the new ink doesn't work well with the larger 1.6mm ballpoint? But these are pretty smooth writing. Thanks!

    Kevin, I honestly lost it laughing when you went on an unforseen "rant" about the word "Xtra" 🤣 No judgments though, it just caught me off guard after being so accustomed to the slower "smooth groove enthusiastic" tone in your voice!
    Aside from that, this video had some nice cozy vibes to watch and listen to in the evening, while enjoying some vanilla and peach ice cream! The footage has some really nice amber tones, like golden hour or a sunset lamp.
    Those pens look like a lot of fun! I like the look of the charcoal grey barrels. I've never tried these, but am tempted to some time!

      Hi Fawn - these are the opposite of a fine point - very thick and bold line. I think they write very smoothly and these have become a favorite of mine. Sorry about the rant! As someone who works in education, I'm easily bothered by things like that! LOL! Thanks!

    Excellent reviews! I have used BICs all my life. Today, I am only writing with BIC's 1.6 mm (Velocity or Cristal). I have one question: do you know why some of the colored ink fillings are not transparent but white? What's the rationale behind that? It should have to do something with the ink ...

    • @AlwaysAnalog
      @AlwaysAnalog  3 года назад +4

      Hi FH! Thank you so much, I'm glad you like the reviews. Like you, I'm a fan of the 1.6mm Bic pens. Funny how the ink tubes for the blue and black ink pens are clear (as they have always been on the Cristals) and all the other colors are in white ink tubes. This is also the case for the 1.0mm Bic pens - white ink tubes for colors other than blue/black. The white tubes don't let you see how much ink remains in the pen (unless you hold it up to a light). I think you may be right about it having to do with the ink. Maybe the formula for the colored ink is different and it requires a different type of tube to flow properly. This would be a good question to ask Bic. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks to you for pointing out the little things that drive those of us who wish to preserve the English language and it's usage mad with frustration. With that in mind, you could well understand my surprise at hearing you say "this is A extra bold..." at 1:39, and "I guess that signifies this as A extra bold pen" at 6:47. When used before words beginning with a consonant, "a" is used, but before words with a vowel, "an" is the proper word. Just trying to help. Thanks for the great review...

    I wish that the pens were French or American made. Maybe the reason my Xtra Bold BiCs look a little faded is because they're a little too old. Hence, I think that BiC Crystals give slight fading with age.

    I know the word extra is to correct spelling! But to my knowledge xtra was created for the the typesetters in the newspaper industry! This was to make it quicker to change something that came in at the last second to get it out on the newsstands. Now don't quote me on that but I believe that is the reason that became a so-called word! It's kind of like Christmas was changed to Xmas for space. Neither use is acceptable in my mind! But unfortunately those words are here and used.
