- 👉 Learn all about the discriminant of quadratic equations. A quadratic equation is an equation whose highest power on its variable(s) is 2. The discriminant of a quadratic equation is a formula which is used to determine the type of roots (solutions) the quadratic equation have.
The discriminant of a quadratic equation is given by d = b^2 - 4ac, where a is the coefficient of the quadratic term (x^2), b is the coefficient of the linear term (x) and c is the constant term. If the discriminant is a positive number, then the quadratic equation will have two real and distinct roots. If the discriminant is equal to 0, then the quadratic equation has two real and equal roots. If the discriminant is a negative number, then the quadratic equation will have two complex roots.
Note that the quadratic equation must be set equal to 0 before a, b, and c can be extracted. If the quadratic equation is not set equal to 0, then all the terms of the equation is taken to one side of the equality sign so that the other side of the equality sign will be 0.

The only reason this video does not have more likes is because everyone is trying to finish their homework
Ain't no way u aint
The video took a while to load and I am in a dark room so when it started I got soo scared because I thought it was the reflection on my screen.
oh. sad.
This guy has literally every topic you can think of in Algebra and his videos are so easy to understand.
I have watched some of your videos and they are really helpful to me. I am in Algebra 2 and your videos have really helped me strengthen what I know and to remind me of things I should know. If you could like this comment, it would mean the world to me. Thank you.
@Lin Ku I don't get what is so wrong about his comment. He is just saying how much he appreciates him. Why you gotta be like that? Try to be less mean less time. How would you know if he wants likes or not?
Lin Ku lol such a toxic asshole
@@mconion4393 lol he deleted reply
@@trufortune6771 lmao
Brian McLogan is the Scotty Kilmer (auto repair) equivalent channel. Super concise, clear, but then you're left with extra bolts and questions lol. NOT A COMPLAINT, before I start a topic in my online class, I first watch a B.McLogan video to get the concept and then I'm not as confused as I go through the material. Often times, the class teaches a dumber way to do it and I go back and watch it again and use his method. My go to math tutor, you rock !
I think he splits the videos up so he can keep our attention with a two minute video rather than a ten minute one😂
Using this to revise for my math exam tomorrow that contains a few questions with the discriminant. 👍
Is it the SAT? Because thats why I'm watching this lmao
how did u do lol
@@harman8970 oh damn… i forgot about this comment, this was during my sophomore year and im currently a senior about to take my SAT’s soon, and i did good 👍
@@zapan4886 damn now I'm a sophomore lmao
@@harman8970 I wish you the best during your school years ! life flies pretty fast so while you may say u hate school now you'll miss your previous school years.
Good Luck! -Zapan
helped a lot, thanks!
Thank you!
many thanks sir for ur such enormus help from dedication
Love and gratitude from India...
If x is real how it is related to discriminant
check out some english lessons too when you get the time :)
Really helpful! Thanks!
where r u from?
Detailed, informative, and concise. Thank you ,sir.
Wouldnt it have been simpler to just look at d=0 d0 rather than square numbers and so on?
That’s the method I used to understand. I think it is easier
Thanks a looooooottt✨
Thanks a lot
Most welcome
This is how all math classes should be.
correct me if i'm wrong but is the discriminant is 0 the it only means that it has one equal root that isnt necessarily rational e.g. the quadratic (x+√2)(x+√2) has an irrational root but when you expand out and calculate the discriminant it still has a discriminant of 0 meaning this is one that violates ur rule
great guy
Thalaiva vera lvl nee
Oom nmha shiye🙏🙏🙏
ugh just thank you, thank you so much.
i love being tauight math by the geezer from the New Radicals
Audio is a bit low
The volume is too low!
Joan Lynch this was made 5 years ago it's obviously not going to be as good as his newer videos
@@nathanows7 well then he can pull it down and do a new voice over on it!
Joan Lynch true, but does he have time for that? (I'm not saying he doesn't)...
@@nathanows7 he probably covers the same material in another video. If he takes down this video, people will see a different video instead.
Also, he is talking about the discriminant, and has a lot of graphs written there, but the part that I want to know is in small writing, and he stands in front of it while he is talking. I only point that out because it is what every math teacher does. They talk rapidly, they stand in front of the problem, they scribble quickly with their back to the classroom. I think that he could make a better video or maybe combine some videos together to make the point more vivid in my reptilian brain.
Nice
That's really very good
happy to help
Give him like
I’m so excited to get out of school! I’m 17 and I’m in 11th grade

Did anyone ask you
My Math 138 professor is learning about DiscrimInants, right now. 😀👍🏾
cool
This too hard
saying it's a "real rational root" is redundant....if the number is rational, then it is obviously real....keep making videos, my class luvs them.
Helped me remember, so I don’t mind it.
Johny sins😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
No
Avaaj bada
2:05 you Conceited 😝
nah just know my square root numbers
Thanks bro but do u think u can grow some hair??
1 sex intercept lol
Sir Volume is low plus your foreign English but thanks
The video takes ambitious questions and gives no answers. I'm sorry.
