  • This slingshot material is going to be my go to for making all my own bungee cords in the future. An easy hack with some 3/16 - 1/4 steel rod you can shape to your own specific needs. I used the 3x6mm tubing - just put in the search bar -orange slingshot tubing on amazon or ebay it comes in various colours and lengths. Give it a try .

    Great idea Steve and when I was looking at that stuff that you were showing it looks like silicone hose. Maybe that would work too.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 лет назад

      Yes same thing or surgical tubing but if you order that stuff it's more but slingshot silicone is real cheap for some reason. So far so good but it does get stiff in the real cold.

  • @LifeWithChase

    Neat Idea but I'm thinking that cord will turn gummy if exposed to sunlight long periods. those rubber ones are heavy duty, they are used to hold tarps on flatbed semi trucks, you can buy them in different lengths as well as rubber or epdm material. I think the epdm holds up to sunlight better but isn't as flexible if i remember correctly. I just bought a box of 50 21" rubber ones yesterday for $55.00 they are pretty much a consumable in the flatbed world because they either break, get cut on the rub rail of the trailer or get lost or someone steels them lol

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 лет назад

      I'm think the same not much use for a trucker on heavy duty stuff but for light duty it's great. I have had the tubing in the back of my truck well over 120 deg F and it never went gummy but they do get stiff in the cold weather.

    Neat. I actually need some surgical tubing for an old sling shot. I too have been so frustrated at fabric bungee cords rotting and falling apart. Over the years I have found some black trucker bungees on the roadway and other random places that have held up amazing. So, I though they were the answer and I picked up some cheap black truckers bungees and they rotted in a season. Turns out they are not all created equal and my oldest good ones are 10+ years old without any cracking. I do hate how they only have limited stretch but enjoy how sucurely they hold stuff down. I'm interested in how long the surgical tubing will hold up. Way to think outside the box.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  6 лет назад

      Thanks Moe - I will do more testing over time but the cost is so low - I ordered another 30 feet of the 6mm and i'm making up a bunch to give away to the guys at my camp and let them try them out on their atv's for the long treks they do. They have many bungee cords holding down all their gear. I'm thinking it was you teaching me for years how to think way out there :)
