      True so many big companies will use young people as slave labour then your middle aged blokes with gold dust contracts act like they’ve got attitude issues. Mate of mine secured what he thought was a promising job for life at Network rail, worked his arse off on peanuts for a few years only to get thrown away with the others a few weeks before graduating. You’d be surprised how much a young enthusiastic person will work for you if they can trust you.

      It's mostly U grade students & Foriegn Labour who do these jobs
      From about 1990 until a couple of years ago
      It waa unheard of getting an A* star to do a job like this now with the lack of interest in the arts
      This could be the awnser for many people

    I am not a brickie but I could watch you for hours I watch every one of your videos have done from day one. I bet Tyler wonders what’s hit him today , nice to see young lads getting on with it doing as their asked without any drama. Not seen your dad on your videos for a while has he retired.

    Fair play spending time with the apprentice i did me level 3 nvq but was never given the time of day to lay after that in my 30s now would love to give it another crack

    I don't know how it works today, but the CITB used to come on site to check how apprentices were being taught. This is 40 yrs ago, mind!

A LOT OF PEOPLE DOMT REALLY SEE THE WORK, EFFORT AND SKILL THAT GOES IN AND IS REQUIRED TO DO THESE JOBS - IT IS AN ART KEEPING EVERYTHING LEVEL, SQUARE & NEAT.     Nice work, ethics, don't abuse your apprentices or there won't be any apprentices. Hard enough to get good help ,hire apprentices, raise your own good help.

      Exactly. These people wonder why there aren’t enough young people learning trades and put it all down to youngsters having no graft when they won’t lift a finger to teach them. A good apprentice will work hard for you so long as they can trust you with their future.

    I used to be a Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic. Ended up having to work at a metal fabrication shop when I could find no other work. I was amazed by my lack of skills and knowledge when I found out how little pay I was being offered. Sure was good at pulling welding cables on job sites.

    545 approximately,good content Charlie and good work advice for apprentices,I am a panelbeater and my bosses thru me straight in to it too,first year I was cut and shunting cars together, although they are 2 different trades the learning aspect is still the same cobber,cheers cuzzy from NZ ,I don't know wat it is but I could watch you lay bricks all-day and I'm not a weirdo,Amy is a awesome cook and good on her for learning the trade,your girl is a cutie she's going to have your humour I'm sure of that,when U told her to say piss off reminded me of my nephew's and nieces picking up on the adults bad language,😂

      You can lay twice the amount by cutting corners. Do that with me and you're knocking down the wall and rebuilding it for free.

    fair play putting up with the young apprentices its hard to stay calm with them sometimes 16:07 made me laugh he could have handed the brick to you but dumped it into the muck and youve just lobbed it on the floor hahaha fair play id lose the plot haha

      I half get one he’s saying with traditional bricklayer, but let’s not forget Charlie is throwing them in, and his apprentice will not be around in 6 months. Traditional bricklayers lad will more likely stay with his dad.

      I’ve got both my lads working with me, ones now laying, the other started around a month ago he’s now spreading and understanding how to use the trowel.

    I got into bricklaying because of the 3 day week 😂😂😂.... I'd heard the wrap tent scaffold thingy costs 35 thou....I asked a contracts manager ( Redrow) about it....he didn't even reply , then walked off...... probably to the golf course......😮😮😮

      A hod carrier is what they call a laborer an apprentice is someone they are teaching to lay bricks alot of times the apprentice has to do some laborer work
