Taking down my Christmas decorations is probably the thing i most noticeably, and consistently, procrastinate the most! Not even sorry about it though! XD
Dreams Around The World - Any type of work that is very systematic and non-creative, is torture to me. It takes a lot out of me. But I can do it in the right setting!
I’m an ENFP who has SEVERE procrastination struggles and i found a highly effective solution to this problem which was a point made in this video! Relocate to a place that forces you to focus. For me it’s panera and starbucks. I can’t trust myself to work in my own bedroom. I’ve come to the point where i know myself and my routine and i know that i will be a lot more productive in a different setting. I take my laptop with me, order a little tea on the side, and yes i get a little distracted still. But I’ve seen an immeasurable difference in how much work i get done in a little time span. Hope you guys try it. This was something that truly worked and continues to work for me !
I do the SAME THING! But I have to find a corner facing away from everyone. And I need some noise canceling earphones, with energetic instrumentals. I really thought I have a mental illness but to see that there is a whole people group with the same struggle is amazing:)
as an enfp, i’ve conditioned myself to dread any and every form of work, which has made it hard for me to get things done. having realised that, i know that i need to reset, fix my basic things, and then pursue my dreams
Totally! Sometimes I procrastinate intentionally so I don’t spend too much time on a task that’s not worth it. For example, I’ll pack for a trip right before I leave. If I start too early I’ll fill the time re-working and re-deciding.
I have to show this comment to my sister-in-law who cannot understand that I pack for a three-week overseas trip only mere hours before the time and not weeks as she does... Clearly I am not alone :-)
As an ENFP I actually have to set a timer to do whatever it is I need to do because If I don't, y mind just wonders and there's no pressure. Therefore I add pressure to my life by using a timer.
Thank you so much ! You are entirely right about the pain-pleasure relationship, this was really interesting to hear. I am currently writing a paper for my philosophy Bachelor, and I also try to visualize me showing the finished paper to my family (which is a motivation to me, to make them proud) and my teachers reading it and being more like "this student obviously put efforts into this and did a good job". This might sound a bit pretentious but it is just my way of getting the work done 😂😊 Visualizations are quite powerful ! Also the subject in itself is very interesting and passionating, which makes the process of writing more fun and doable. Making lists and keeping track of the evolution of my work is also motivating and makes me feel like I am not procrastinating. Anyways, thank you so much for your videos Dan, they are always really interesting ! Cheers from Switzerland 😄
It's not pretentious at all, making someone proud, means they have less worry about us. Wanting our family to be proud is a good motivation. I've found that I don't find motivation within myself unless it's somehow linked to someone else, like proving I could get my doctorate in chemistry/physics. Everyone thought I wasn't smart enough, so I just wanted to dispel that thought from their minds. Eventually those undergraduate professors who looked down on me (I was the second to worst student) had to adjust their opinion when they asked for help from me later, when I had developed some instrumentation in graduate school that they needed help building in their labs. I had traveled twice to Germany as invited scientist by this time, so my reputation proceed me. That was cool, but after reaching assistant professor, I just threw it all away, because I didn't want to sit around writing grants and fighting over who got the biggest classroom for lectures. So I traveled to China and just moved into an art collective in Shanghai and started painting. I don't need to prove anything anymore, but I would like my family to someday to sit on a blanket on a small organic farm, and eat goat cheese that I made, and maybe some wine from the vine. That's all that matters.
I wish if there was a Magical Pill or anything to rewire my brain and stop procrastinating! I'm procrastinating watching a vidoe about procrastination.
Man I'm telling u....I'm a professional procrastinator when it comes to anything involving paper work and studying...but when under pressure I feel like my brain is turbocharged 🔥
We don't procrestinate! I totally agree with you! We do things that is still considered to be good for us but that not actually the priority of that moment. We got distracted by other "more important thing".
I'm working on a college task I've been putting off for a long time, and I take a rest to watch your video. Surprisingly you mentioned about college task too. Feels like a direct reminder. xD
I “watch” these videos whilst tidying, sorting important stuff I’ve been procrastinating on for a long time. Learning about myself and getting shit done! ✌🏻😋
Sometimes, it's having to run outside to bring the recycling to the curb that gives me the boost i needed when I come back inside my apartment. That implies that I procrastinated till the last minute to bring the bag out because I can hear the recycling truck coming up down the street. But then, I feel energized from running down and up the stairs and getting fresh air. Exercising is definitely helpful, even though I sure can procrastinate on that too. Eating less carbs might be a very good solution too. I can easily go to sleep if I eat too much of it. I wish it was easier sometimes.
have you come across this phenomenon before: I also put off things I like doing! I think it is because it's like when you are reading a really great book or watching a great film, when it ends you feel bereft. Also once something is finished you can't improve it, so the perfectionist in me always wants to have that, well it will be better when it's finished frame of mind. Also I like to have things a real mess so that when I do get round to sorting it out whatever it is, it is an amazing transformation. Is there any hope ....?!?!!1
Interesting! I'm definitely like that for active things like creative projects and videogames, but for books and movies I'm hyperfocused until the end (and then yes I do mourn them before moving on to next book/movie).
Sounds a lot like myself. I was watching this Turkish period drama and I left the last few episodes unwatched and then it went off Netflix and I had to track it down. I was like a squirrel hiding his stash and almost forgetting where I hid it. Leaving projects for a while and revisiting them does allow for new perspectives/inspiration. I paint, so having fresh eyes on a project by switching or revolving gives intuition the chance to operate in the background, I think. So I try to have several paintings going at once and rotate through. I think perfectionism to an ENFP is more about did I pour my heart/soul into it rather than the usual error-free concept. I think a few errors may be perfect in some cases. Especially in art and music. Playing a perfect rhythm on guitar gets monotonous, but variations within reason adds life to it. So I think ENFP perfection is an awesome driver towards meeting our own vision. But at some point I think we say that’s all I can give. One thing is I try to push projects quickly to state of being done, so when I go back to finish, it’s the fun part, like saving the last piece of a puzzle.
ENFP fellows, any other tip to get your shit together? Personally, my procrastination is really affecting my sleep lately (having to wake up early every morning. So, I think I should just make a rule that after 11PM I should just go to bed cause there's no way I am gonna find motivation past that time (unless the deadline is tomorrow of course).
Very true i have panic attacks doing and thinking about school or planning. I have been told i am broken as a person for not being naturally attuned to these activities and have fear of failure and shame form these things. I have to be on meds just to do school.
Hello Dan, this is my first time to know about your way or I mean your channel and all awsome things you do here. I am an ENFP and I am procrastinating almost everything thing. I know it sounds like I am having a serious problem, but good to know that I hate my job. I am working as a project manager but on the very board wrong project ... Any help?!
Thank you for this video. I already knew I worked better at the library but it always helps to be strenghened in this idea ! But aren't most enfp procrastinators?
'Pain/Pleasure' equation explains some of life choices neatly: *Me: Alright! Thirty minutes of programming exercises will juice up my brain! *Brain:...or you can spend sixteen hours in a row reading two hundred chapters of this manga. *Me, 16 hours later: fuck. Let's see if I can apply the gained knowledge for a benefit. Thank you, nevertheless!
I have a piano teacher app on my phone that I use to spend way to muh time on. However, now that I focus on making progress rather the more mindlessly option of just spending loads of time on it, it's mentally tiring enough that I can do it in the morning to enhance the productivity and focus for the rest of my day.
Hey dan Thank you for the video 💜 am an ENFP_T please make videos more about us i want to know more about my self so i can deal with life💔 Thank you💜💜🌼
What things do I procrastinate most? 1. Tidying up/Cleaning.... I clean together with my son. It's different every time, maybe we need to clean up cause the hobbits are throwing a party outside later. And we don't want to hear them (my wife) to complain about the state of the house. Remember how pissed Frodo got last time buddy? Yeah, we better load the dishes, come on. 2. Getting my booster shingles shot, overdue by many months. Too lazy to find the number to call. Maybe my wife will do that for me? 3. Chasing my biggest dreams. My dreams are like firecrackers scattered here and there. I don't know where the next spark is going to land, but I know that it will, and when it does, that's where I'll go. I'm always looking for the opportunity to light the biggest one, but I have an "Alan Watts" approach to life too, so I'm not waiting for Gudot either. But he's gonna show up. Really.
Other people: Just don't prcrastinate A fellow ENFP: DO procratinate Me: Wait, what? Come by me again? You are saying that the answer is to actually leave evertything last minute?
What kind of things do you procrastinate most?

Reading books and writing one. Lol
Dreams Around The World Cleaning the cat litter boxes!
Study ... reports and doing the dishes 😅😅😅
I also like procrastinating by watching videos on how to not procrastinate :)
I approve of this strategy
same
Right!!
haha same right now! :'D
1 know you are a last minute person
2 make your work enjoyable
3 switch places
4 do what you love
5 brain chemistry (exercises, diet, etc)
enfp under pressure works best....does for this ENFP!!
Same

SAME! but with covid it's so much harder though! I'm glad spring is coming, hopefully working outside will workout a bit better than in my bedroom
This has also worked for me as well!

Thanks so much man, what stood out to me was the last-minute situation. I guess the only downside is my mother. She doesn't understand
I am literally without even joking procrastinating writing my own master's thesis to watch this video lol it's crazy ...
Thank you I feel like shorts and memes are the death of us Enfps 😅❤

Lol… procrastinating on cleaning the kitchen by watching this
- Me: "Yes, this is the type of video I need to be watching"
- Also Me: hits watch later button
While going out in public is fun, how do you stop yourself from having conversations with everyone around you and get work done?
Headphones! If that doesn't work, move across the world to somewhere people don't speak English.
LOL. I actually just packed a set of noise-canceling headphones to try out this afternoon :-)
Taffy Dugan use headset so chill loud music while doing some work will help, i hope it helps
Great video!! You are sooo an ENFP! I am too!

thank you for your videos! i really appreciate them
Thank you for this video. I already knew I worked better at the library but it always helps to be strenghened in this idea ! But aren't most enfp procrastinators?
Yes procrastination is a common issue for ENFPs. At first I thought the same. "Only 2 or 3 and I happen to be one of them?" ;)
OMG thanks for this, all these statements just sound like me.
I'll watch this later

Perhaps writing or being a comedian should be on that list....really enjoyed your comment :)
