heya, im 16 and Im really good midrange to long 2 shooter but whe it comes to 3 I lose control of the ball, sometimes i miss long or short even sideways
Can someone explain to me what the off hand and shooting hand does. I tend to have a loose off hand, I would accidentally flick that wrist aswell or i would keep it straight so it changes my form. What can i do about this? and i also have a question on how to shoot better two motion shots
Yo coach Drew, I'm 12 and 5'2 I can't release the ball from my head just from the chest but I use thumb flick and I have a stable jumpshot, do you have videos about how to shoot from your head? I'm new to this channel you guys earned a sub.
Why is it that when at game speed, i can't seem to grip and release the ball (with rotation and fingers released) properly in my jump shot? how do i fix it so every shot is 100% pure quality and rotation?
Drew doesnt dip the ball and shot with his feet square to the basket? what does he teach to his clients? I'm a lot more comfortable shooting with my feet turned or turn them
We are showing/talking proper fundamentals that aren't going to fit everyone's game. So, take the fundamentals and apply them to fit you and your game, if you feel more comfortable with your feet slightly turned - keep your feet slightly turned.
EGTBasketball-I get more range, accuracy, balance, comfortablility, and a quicker release when I shoot with a narrow stance feet turned and a turn while shooting
In the shooting videos Drew teaches the basic fundamentals, however if you feel more comfortable with your feet not perfectly square to the goal and your make percentage is solid than stick with that. - Joe @ TeamEGT
RCCV He has a slight chicken wing (elbow sticking out) so his arms are in a comfortable position, that's why he squares up more easily than people who shoot with their elbow locked, like Steph Curry for example.
He also twists his body for more balance. As his leg moves forward, it allows the weight of his body to spread evenly through the air for a more precise shot. This tutorial in general was very basic and wanted to focus more on the generalized textbook shooting form. Kinda like Klay Thompson
Once you get your shot and release right, moving back then becomes about your strength and being able to maintain the exact shot and release from distance. - Joe @ TeamEGT
XMccracken what I would do is slowly move back so start close and do maybe 25 of those then move back and make 25 and keep going farther back as you progress because it will help with maintaining your release farther back and out to the three point line
Hey what's the correct shooting motionn? Should you get to your set point and then jump or something else. I hear a lot that your legs and arms move at the same time but when I do that I reach my set point when I'm in the air and lose my power from my legs. If you could help me out that would be Amazing 😊.
I used to be a good shooter from way beyond the 3 point line, but I got a injury In the beginning of the season that forced me to sit out for the rest of it. I started playing again and for the last 2 months I haven't been the same. i practice and practice my shot everyday but I can't seem to be accurate from barely past the 3 point line and i airball often now. I'm trying to change my shot but I dont know where I should have my set point at. Where would you recommend I have it? And also I'm having trouble having a one motion shot, any suggestions on getting that one motion shot again? Thanks Drew!
Go back to the shot that was working prior to your injury (if range of motion isn't an issue). Work on your strength and stay within in the key mastering your form for many weeks. And move out very slowly. - Joe @ TeamEGT
Be consistent, shoot closer to rim than gradually go out to 3 point line each week. Your set point should be in your face, depends how old you are. I shoot beyond the three point line with a chin set point (finger at chin) but I shoot with my set point at my eyebrows in the mid-range.
Nice video but a disagree about landing in the same spot. Best NBA shooters always sweep their feet under them in a swaying motion. Releasing tension in the shoulders.
Hi coach drew.. i see you do not dip the ball to your hips.. is it ok to not dip the ball?? because ive been watching basketball tutorials here in youtube lately and many videos about shooting says you have to dip the ball when shooting of the pass... tnx alot.. :D
You must watch the videos of Shooting Pro System of the Coach Hoover, he explains very well that, and you are going to see that coach Drew it´s wrong in this. And Also watch the ideos of Shot Mechanics of Coach Collin Castellaw.
Tip 3. "Quickly, cleanly get the ball to your lift pocket." Some coaches are adamant about NOT dipping. Some coaches concede that dipping the ball is natural. Look at most NBA shooters. They dip the ball more than Drew Hanlon does in this video, many below their waist. I would say that any dip with the ball would be simultaneous to your downward leg bend, however far both actions may be. Similarly, your upward release motion is coincident with your leg extension to the apex of your jump. If you think about it, a deep leg bend would allow for more shooting power but would necessarily take (slightly) more time. If your dip occurs within the same time frame, no time is lost overall in getting the ball off. Your dip can go to your thigh (pro shooting system) with deep leg bend or above your waist (Drew) with slight leg flexure. Seems to me consistency would be the more important factor than the actual extent of the dip. Also consider the overall time required from catch to release. A deeper dip with leg bend definitely takes more time. Good footwork can shorten that time frame. But an errant pass negates any benefit. In the training video, the ball is handed to the shooter with perfect shot pocket placement As for the "shooting pro system coach hoover" .... perhaps you might look at the guy and his professional credentials? What I see is a fat dude talking to youth basketball players. While the ideas may be effective and based on empirical observations and training results, I have never actually seen Hoover shoot. In contrast, Drew Hanlon is an NBA trainer who is highly compensated by PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS for his knowledge and ability. So I am not sure I would be so quick to say "coach drew is 'wrong' in this" just because you don't like his answer.
I'm in middle school and I just last year switched to a one hand release after being an elite shooter for my age but I am having some struggles in the one hand for especially with my guide hand and the thumb I'd appreciate if you could help thanks in advance
You made a huge shot change, stay with it and continue to develop it. These things take time, and sometimes a lot of time. Success comes from being stubbornly focused on your goal. - Joe @ TeamEGT
My hands r really small and even my coach says that my hands r a bit too small for 7 size ball but age wise I shud use seven size balls as I am 14, any tips to increase proper grip on the ball while shooting? thx in advance.
consistency is more important than anything. find a form that works for you and stick with it while you practice millions of reps. confidence is also super important
I have a question tho when u finish ur crossover and tried ur off dribble shot it's really hard to get to ur shot pocket because defender will have a chance to block it . What do I do
EGTBasketball but I see the clips of the NBA players they did not put the ball back to their shot pocket after the dribbles. So I don't know whether I should do that or not
In these cases just do what you need to do to get off shots you can make with a good percentage or be able to kick the ball out to a teammate. - Joe @ TeamEGT
Is it bad that I can only shoot consistently from fade away and pull ups, when ever I fade or pull up everything is perfectly align and my shot rarely misses , but when I tried to replicate it standing still I start missing left and right aloy
It's not as good to miss, but missing is part of the game. I'd spend time breaking down your set shot, start with the first two drills here: ruclips.net/video/8yF3kVi6zY0/видео.html - Joe @ TeamEGT
Do i have to have the ball to the right side if im right handed and right eye dominant or can i have the ball in the middle in front of my forehead if its more comfortable? Please help!!!
EGTBasketball Just saw it thanks! I just realized he takes it up the middle or even a little to the left. Also i have my elbow line above my eyebrow but my arc still isnt that good so how would i fix that?
Start with the one hand touch shooting drill in this video: ruclips.net/video/8yF3kVi6zY0/видео.html Spend a lot of time with this drill and then slowly work back once you have the shot you're looking for. - Joe @ TeamEGT
Hey coach, my problem is that I feel like I do not have enough power in my shot to shoot with 1 hand ( before I would shoot with 2 but il trying to change to get a better rotation on the ball ). Should I stick my thumb next to my index on guide hand for extra support or continue shooting with 1 hand close up to the rim then slowly shooting further?
Start in the key (next to the basketball) and work on it. Baby steps, go slow, no extended range shots until your new set point feels normal. - Joe @ TeamEGT
Curry twists. Not much, but twisting is the natural motion your body does mid-air. Not twisting just a little will result in lots of stress on your shoulders.
Looks pretty unnatural. I guess you tried to make your point though. These are good tips, but you should mention, that there is more space for personal tweeking. Great Video!
Hi Drew,
Do you have any links/records from those studies? I'd be very interested.
Thanks
Just these videos, man.

I have a big problem with the shooters "C" pocket . It's not smooth for me, do you have any tips to help improve my shot
Hi what does punching your shoulder high enough exactly mean?
Yo coach Drew, I'm 12 and 5'2 I can't release the ball from my head just from the chest but I use thumb flick and I have a stable jumpshot, do you have videos about how to shoot from your head? I'm new to this channel you guys earned a sub.

Why is it that when at game speed, i can't seem to grip and release the ball (with rotation and fingers released) properly in my jump shot? how do i fix it so every shot is 100% pure quality and rotation?
Practice at game speed.
Go to a crowded park and ball out and practice
Drew doesnt dip the ball and shot with his feet square to the basket? what does he teach to his clients? I'm a lot more comfortable shooting with my feet turned or turn them

EGTBasketball-I get more range, accuracy, balance, comfortablility, and a quicker release when I shoot with a narrow stance feet turned and a turn while shooting
Keep shooting the way you shoot. These are the basic building blocks of shooting, from there each player puts their spin on it.
In the shooting videos Drew teaches the basic fundamentals, however if you feel more comfortable with your feet not perfectly square to the goal and your make percentage is solid than stick with that.

RCCV He has a slight chicken wing (elbow sticking out) so his arms are in a comfortable position, that's why he squares up more easily than people who shoot with their elbow locked, like Steph Curry for example.
Tysm im from Philippines
Curry twists his body on most of his off the dribble threes
Yes but he is a pro that shoots thousands a day and has a lot of natural talent. The landing straight is text book and helps players of all levels.
When he’s shooting of the dribbe from the right he has to twist his body in the air to get his body aligned to the rim
Practicing perfect form in the gym gives your in-game challenged shots a better chance to go in even if some of the variables are off.
He also twists his body for more balance. As his leg moves forward, it allows the weight of his body to spread evenly through the air for a more precise shot. This tutorial in general was very basic and wanted to focus more on the generalized textbook shooting form. Kinda like Klay Thompson
@@garryfoulkes6771 sweep and sway is useful for deep threes
@EGTBasketball I like your breakdown. Do you think ProShot Shooting Bands would help with Shooting Key #2? I'd love to get your feedback.
Thanks for the help I really appreciated
Hi Drew, when I shoot the ball just rolls around the rim and comes out. Unless the ball go directly in it will roll out.
Keep working on your shot so you can develop the "shooters touch."
Thanks man
thanks for the tips, i will now apply them
You're welcome.
- Joe @ TeamEGT
Supper good.
I want to know more about engage the core
So once I get my realese right do I except to start getting all my 3's or do I have to keep working with that real ease to make it work
Once you get your shot and release right, moving back then becomes about your strength and being able to maintain the exact shot and release from distance.

What if you flick your hand and it’s not straight. Does it mess up your shooting form or not
hi drew i always watch videos so it can help me shoot right but when i shoot i miss do you know whats wrong with my shot?
Impossible to know from here.
I shoot like lebron james and i still miss
LeBron has taken 100K+ shots, so it's likely your strokes are different. Keep shooting and working.
What does it mean to widen your hand when shooting

No, you want your shots to be the same. It sounds like you may have a lack of strength issue.

Quick question does your shooting elbow need to be straight and aligned with the hoop
As close to that as possible so you're aligned with the goal.
- Joe @ TeamEGT
What do you think about jumping a bit forward when i shoot?I have higher pecentage when i shoot that way and i dont lose balance when i shoot.
I think if it's working and you're hitting all of the shots then leave it alone.
- Joe @ TeamEGT
consistency is more important than anything. find a form that works for you and stick with it while you practice millions of reps. confidence is also super important
Agreed. We instruct on fundamentals because we need to but your comment is spot on.

I have a question tho when u finish ur crossover and tried ur off dribble shot it's really hard to get to ur shot pocket because defender will have a chance to block it . What do I do

EGTBasketball Just saw it thanks! I just realized he takes it up the middle or even a little to the left. Also i have my elbow line above my eyebrow but my arc still isnt that good so how would i fix that?

How to have confidence?
Thanks for the great advice, coach! Question: what’s shoes are you wearing?
YW. The older Wiggins.

Thanks for the reply

I know im late but i see that your left thumb look like flicking the ball too. Are u?
Hey coach, my problem is that I feel like I do not have enough power in my shot to shoot with 1 hand ( before I would shoot with 2 but il trying to change to get a better rotation on the ball ). Work your rhythm the problem is there
I can't shoot long shots, but my 9 year old brother can :/ is itt cuz im weak? Or amm I just not shooting correctly?
How old are you?
SwaggyNatsuDragneel stop being mean
SwaggyNatsuDragneel are you stupid?
it is all about the proper technique, man. I haver been there where u are now.
how to raise set point?
Start in the key (next to the basketball) and work on it. Baby steps, go slow, no extended range shots until your new set point feels normal.
- Joe @ TeamEGT
I’d love to see these “studies”. They contradict ALOT of other reliable sources that say otherwise.
Yeah, sounds like a lot of bro-science.
Guid hand on almost the top of the ball until the release point.
only twist the hips to get more power for range, but keep the upper body the same
I have everything that Coach said that I need to have to be a great shooter, but I just can't make buckets
M0M!R make your own jump shot not your coaches.
I was told several times I’m the best shooter people have ever seen. Only problem I’m 5’9 and built like a RB LOL
Sometimes people put their dominate foot in front of the other
👍
Um
Curry twists. Not much, but twisting is the natural motion your body does mid-air. Not twisting just a little will result in lots of stress on your shoulders.
You're right he does twist a bit. But he's also a freak of nature with his J.

And?
- Joe @ TeamEGT

Ahh. Right. I guess they had some rally or something. And now those kids are about to graduate.
- Joe @ TeamEGT
Doesnt like to dip on his shot
The matrix: these aint true.
It’s only three major keys to a good shot ☝️ is to have balance ✌🏾flick your wrist and 🤟🏾is to aim your wrist at the rim
my range is so far that the 3 point line feels like a normal jump shot
Jahdill Smith how did you get that, what release time you have?
That is not jump shoot?
Looks pretty unnatural. I guess you tried to make your point though. These are good tips, but you should mention, that there is more space for personal tweeking. Take Kobe f. ex., he used his guiding hand to guide his follow through following his shot and directing it at the rim, after the ball left his hands.
This is the fundamentals, of course you can always tweak it to your liking.
