it's not his he might have to pay royalties on that song I rather have the content and compromise on intro music . which sadly is actually bad from the algorithm pov since people skip the intro music .
I addressed the topic of my original music a few months ago, here is a link in case you missed it: ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQHsGUzALVgB3cEN99Mj7Eb1_laUFyAbt
Yes, that's a great setting, I mention it in my Android starter guide. There are some nice tips in this article from the developer too, which they wrote for the Odin, but much of it applies to other lower-spec Android devices like this one. www.uoyabause.org/blogs/56
23:51: "And so we can get a bit of nostalgia here while listening to this old song..." I have to say It's been really nice to watch your channel grow. Thanks for keeping the channel informative and up-to-date as the retro market has exploded. Your video's still feel like they did when you started. Thanks, Russ
I got my RG552 secondhand and pretty much never used from a regretful buyer and have been loving my time with it. Just as you said, this has easily been the best way I've ever played retro games on a handheld. I watched your preliminary review in anticipation of getting the system, and was somewhat worried on if there'd be any growth on the Android side. Then I found out about BlackSeraph's work and while I was weighing if it was worth becoming a patron yet, Anbernic releases an Android 11 upgrade for free today. Great time to be a 552 owner with all this stuff in development.
I installed Android 11 last night and there was a couple things I noticed right off the bat. No ATV launcher and no Google Play store. Kinda bummed about that. But what I did notice was that my SD card worked fine (1 TB SanDisk) despite reports of apps like RetroArch not being able to see it. I was able to browse my SD card with RetroArch, PPSSPP, and Mupen 64 just fine. It may be because when I was on Android 7, I formatted the SD card to be used as external storage within the Android settings. There's also a fan control and overclock toggle now, and it seemed to help with a couple games. I haven't gone in depth with it yet, but I'm sure a launcher like LaunchBox or DIG will help the experience greatly.
@@Cyko.. So a video just came out that walks us through the process of getting the google play store and googleservices working on the RG552 using the official Android 11 upgrade.
@@TheContradictator Yep! I got Google Play Store installed on my RG552 running Android 11 and it works great! I also installed ATV launcher so now things look like they did when I first got it.
I still haven't bothered to upgrade android yet, but I was low key waiting for a vid from you to look at it first lol, so thanks for that. I've been using Jelos for a couple months and I like it a lot. I like 351elec and use it on other devices, but I would have instances of it pre-selecting certain settings in the front end that get in my way, and that aspect is less of an issue with Jelos.
Can you do that performance chart for previous handhelds like the Retroid Pocket 2+? It’s a really nice tool to compare the crazy amount of handhelds on the market
Good video and thoughtful insights. One thing that has gotten me over the concept of money and value and what are we really talking about here. I’m an old guy, and I grew up with the NES and SNES and I bought a ton of game. I likely have spent north of 10k over the years on hardware and games. So, it does bother me a bit when we act like $60-$80 is significant when you consider the amount of content you are able to consume. Sure, we compare it to it’s competitors, and no doubt about it, it’s way more expensive. But in reality, it’s nothing when looking at the value of what it stores. Also, the screen, the excellent PSP and N64 as well as dual boot, makes this way worth it.
Exactly. For what this can deliver in terms of the retro gaming experience, I will gladly pay this price. The context of other devices does take away from its market value, but the 10-year-old me would have killed for this thing back in the day. I remember paying $60 for Spider-Man and the Sinister Six for the NES -- for ONE (crappy) game.
@@RetroGameCorps We've had great progression of Pocketable Consoles! Just think back to where it all began. Phase 0: a modded GBA, with rechargeable batteries, backlight screen, and Flash Game Cartridge. Phase 1: What kicked it off was the phenomenal PSP (2000-version) with the Hacked Firmware. Store all your pictures, music, videos, games, and emulation. Basically a mobile computer in mid-2000's! Phase 2: Then we got the likes of the Xperia Play/JXD S500/gpd XD, which could do the above with better fidelity and more features (like Android Apps). This was the infancy of Retro Android Devices. I didn't include the Nvidia Shield as that released a little later, whilst the PS Vita v1 was out, it was pretty limited and not hacked yet. Phase 3: Things went into overdrive with the GPD Win-2. This was a new height in this segment, and just qualifying to be a pocketable device. It added more power, more capabilities, better emulators, and some light x86/Windows Gaming into the mix. ...whilst the Valve SteamDeck is great, it is not pocketable, whereas the newly released Retroid Pocket 2+ is pocketable but it is inferior to the GPD Win 2, and isn't that much superior against the likes of GPD XD, PS Vita, etc etc.
I mean, you can do this about a lot of things. In the preindustrial world clothes were very expensive (that's why everyone does lots for Jesus's clothes after he dies). Still, we're comparing to other stuff available at the same price, not what was possible decades ago.
Still 227 dollars... Oh boy. I've never seen it go so low in price where I can buy it. It's up to 400 on Amazon uk. At that price point I would wait for a Steam Deck. Honest, it feels like this device would fit a price point of 150-180 Dollars.
You have been an outstanding teacher. I tried to join black-seraphim and than I was going to be a Patron of yours, but my card will not go through. I will try again tomorrow. When I say a good teacher. I have dyslexia and you have made this so easy for me, I am really hoping I can get this to work.
Man I dig Anbernic products a lot but its such a hard sell not to just fork over the extra $150+ and wait for a steam deck but maybe that's just me. Real shame too cuz this looks so clean!
yeah this one is too expensive for what it is,but the RG351MP with 4:3 screen is a great choice ,you won't get that accurate aspect ratio on RG552 or Steam Deck.it's perfect for 16Bit and older systems.also portability is very important.Steam deck is HUGE.
@@armdrk3233 I think the MP is an even worse price in some ways. At least the 552 has some more power. But theres a lot of stuff equal in power to the MP and there are comparable screens like the 351v out there. Just depends what form factor people can deal with. I find myself rarely using my MP.
Hey Russ, i want to thank you for your videos about emulation, and the detailed tutorial videos. You have to test out emulation on the galaxy z fold 3. I know its expensive, and its android, But, the fact that you have almost 4:3 dimensioned screen when you unfold it absolutely amazing for emulation. PLus the Gamesir X2 works flawless with it (you can even fold it like an 3DS when its connected to the controller) The Pixel Density is nice, and the overall screen quality is superb. It has an snapdragon 888 which is powerfull enough for many Emulators. I would love to see a video about this device from you. I think you would like it very much. thanks for you work, and keep it up. greetings from germany-
honestly the screen alone makes this a compelling buy over the rp2+ but the price is just way too high... I think those interested would have considered it at 150usd max but it's 230usd minimum plus shipping that's ridiculous. I own both the rp2+ and the 552 and i actually play the 552 more. No crappy slidey analogue, better screen and the experience on android is great!
I own both the RP2+ and the RG552, and I too find myself playing the RG552 more also. I upgraded to the free Android 11 update for the RG552, and now I can use the same micro SD card on the Android side as well as with AmberELEC on the Linux side. The screen and controls are far superior, but GameCube and PS2 run a lot better on the RP2+. It's great having both devices.
I like the 552, sure it's expensive for what it can do but I love the screen, I actually prefer it over the pocket 2 plus. The pocket 2 plus screen doesn't even come close to the 552's but it won't run lots of high end PSP games but lots of PSP games do run well with tinkering. The 552's analogues both work great, much better than that Pocket 2 plus right sliding analogue. I find myself using the 552 more than pocket 2 plus. I'd love a RG553 with the same screen, better Triggers and bumpers and a 5Ghz wireless connections. I forgot the snapdragon 865 min LOL.
THPS3 (PS2, PAL) is playable on my RG552. 50fps+ very consistently. There’s a really nice grip stl for sale on Etsy for the RG552 for about $13. I printed mine in about 9 hours, it’s a night and day difference for ergonomics. I paid $199 for my RG552 last week from Anbernic. It was on sale, including the second card. It was delivered in a day and a half, I’m in the US.
I own this device for two days now and am having big battery problems. First it only charged up to 85%. Then I got another charger and it went up to 93%, but stopped charging again. The battery only lasted for about three hours. After that I charged it and again it only got up to 92% this time. So I booted android and tried charging it there and got to charge it until 100% for the very first time. Then I turned it off, did some things on my computer and after about 30 minutes I got back to my RG552 as I wanted to play. Unfortunately the charge all of a sudden was only at 75% when I turned it on. I still started to play and noticed that the charge while playing was going up. After playing for about 30 minutes the charge was at 78% - really crazy! I kept on playing for another hour and the charge finally started going down again. When I try to charge the RG552 with the included charger it never goes further than 85-90%. With another charger I own it manages to charge up to 90-95%. Only on android it charges 100%, still only with my apple charger, though. Not with the one that comes with the RG552.
For all the hate this device gets, its been my go to device since December and I've put hundreds of hours into it. I have an Odin too, but the 61hz screen issue and the screen quality just not being as good in general has kept me from using it, and I just stick with the RG552. The screen quality is just so good that playing any other handheld feels like I'm having a lesser experience. Also, all the reports of PSP games not working well seems weird to me. I've got about 80 PSP games, tried them all for about 5 minutes, and only 2 games didn't go full speed. That was Outrun 2006 and Fate/Extra (and Fate/Extra seemed like more of an emulation issue since its not graphically demanding yet ran at 10 FPS). I don't generally play the most demanding games, but saying only 50% of the library works seems to not really get the whole picture of the PSP, since pretty much any game thats not a big console level 3D game works fine. Even stuff like Crisis Core and Persona 3 Portable run at 3x resolution without frameskip. 100% use Android though, the performance is far better than the Linux OS.
I agree with you overall, and especially about psp. My psp experience has been very solid on the Android side under Vulkan. I think the problem is all that ever gets shown on youtube is God of War, Outrun, maybe Syphon Filter, etc. But I've been playing tekken 5 DR, Def Jam The Takeover, DBZ Budokai: Another Road, Mortal Kombat Unchained, megaman powered up and Maverick Hunter X, etc. Out of the 20 or so games i have on my device currently, the only one that gives me trouble is Spider Man 2, which runs slow. As much as psp gets brought up on these retro handheld channels, I really dont see a lot of vids delve into the library beyond the typical performance benchmark games and some RPGs.
Step One: Buy a mint, Japanese PSVita for $110 Step Two: Wait one week Step Three: install CFW Step Four: Enjoy portable retro gaming on an OLED screen with a host of 3d-printable plans, available for free. Thanks for sharing the video; I was really curious about these :)
I originally bought an RG351MP but I had an unfortunate issue with the monitor that was flickering after powering on the device. I returned it and it was just when RG552 just came out. I bought one and what can I say? It is as you said "the ultimate gba and the ultimate snes". Basically I prefer the Linux side of firmware and the games of that generations that Linux firmwares excel at playing. I use AmberELEC and the experience is awesome. Basically for my liking the RG552 was the perfect device. The monitor and the sound system are crystal clear and beyond comparison with all other options I have tried. The ergonomics suffer a bit, this is true. I have no complaints. I just love this thing.
I've been playing most of my Saturn favorites on Amber Elec/ RG552 and about 9 out of 10 games run flawlessly. Standouts are Shining the holy ark, Dragon force 1&2, Guardian heroes and the Panzer Dragoon games. The auto frameskip is a godsend and doesn't seem to hurt gameplay in any perceivable way other than making the intro videos on some games (Dragon Force) glitch a little. VF2 (mainly full poly games) struggle a bit but since most of my faves are 2/ 2.5D this is not a big issue.
Always tempted - but then I remember that for that "perfect GBA emulation", I've already got the RG351P, and for all of my NES, SNES, GB, GBC stuff, I'll use the RG351V. And then recently, I fiiiiiiiiinally found the 1-2 hours it took me to follow a guide to unlock my New 2DS XL, and that's truly the best way to play DS and 3DS games.
Id say DSi XL is the best way to play DS games, any of the 2/3ds variants dont natively scale DS games so they look blurry, and DSi XL has guaranteed IPS screen
@@thomas1999 Sure, but I don't want to have _yet_ another device, and I play mostly 3DS games on it, but I've been able to add the DS games easily nonetheless, so I consider that goodnuff. :) (Also I never owned a DS/DSi variant, as I stayed on my GBA back then, and only bought a new handheld in 3DS days.
@@thomas1999 I will just press start when booting up nds stuff to have it unscaled. Viewing area will be smaller but its still acceptable on a n3ds XL.
Playing DS games on a 3DS/2DSXL is doing a disservice to the wonderful DS catalogue. The DSi XL with it’s IPS screen and a true 1:1 representation massively trumps the experience on 3DS. I’d also say that for the RG552 on Android using Drastic. 2X High Quality mode certainly breeds new life into the DS library.
@@MsModestyBlaise forgot to mention, the 3ds dpad location is awful and the circle pad isn’t great replacement for digital input. the 3ds is good if you’re on a tight budget and want an all in one that can play 3ds and ds aswell but if you’ve got a bit more cash to spend there’s plenty of better options
Dear Retro Game Corps, first of all congratulations for the relevant work in the Gamer scene. Write to him, because I have a doubt, in the video you only demonstrate the 5GHZ wifi dongle and bluetooth working on Android, so I would like to know if Linux on systems like Bat, Jelos and Amber? Thank you very much! You won like and subscription.
@@RetroGameCorps, thanks for the quick turnaround. Just to conclude, is it necessary to install any drivers on these systems or is it Plug & Play compatibility? I'm sorry these systems don't support Bluetooth as I have 2 great 8Bitdo controllers. Do you think this might change after future updates? Once again thank you for your attention. Best Regards!
You don't need to install the AOSP zip file in TWRP, that zip is an update file for users of previous beta builds. If you just flashed the latest maskrom, it is not necessary.
Pardon me... Was blazin out this morning. Watching RGC. Good video... Started daydreaming. Imagined Russ doing a tutorial and how to summon a demon.... "Alright, so after you've got your pentagram drawn and the candle's lit you're gonna need to decide what kind of demon you want to work with; Lesser, arch, or Primeval. (Make SURE your sacrifices equal out or are worthy of the type of demon you seek to call upon)- I have written notes to help you with this in the links below) Once you've come to a decision and your ritual is complete. The type of Demon you've summoned should make an appearance around midnight and ask you 66 times if you're sure you wanna do this? You're gonna go "Yeah man, I wanna do it" ... XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD
Well, today the package arrived with RG552 and ... I like it a lot :) I mean, I'm waiting for Odin Lite but I realised that probably this will still take some time (2, 3, 4 months ?) - i was tired of waiting ;p To be perfectly fair, I still think that my RG351P (with AmberElec too) is great device too. It's so ... pocketable and the build quality is pretty good :) RG552 has almost same size as Switch Lite. I installed AmberElec pre-release latest version and here are my thoughts: 1. The screen itself makes the upgrade from 351P really worth. It's so great to see NES, GBA, PC-Engine etc. games on bigger screen. I mean, yea I knew that the screen is much wider, but vertically, there is also a difference. and colors... :) 2. Bigger screen also means that some weird emulators, such as DosBox Pure feel more natural. On RG351P many old games are playable but for some strategy or adventure, or some other rich-text oriented games, the text was just really too small, to a degree making it non comfortable to read. RG552 makes all these games playable. Ie. I can play old, fantastic DOS RPG game called - Albion (which had very, very tiny text ;p). Yeah, it required 10-15 mins controls configuration but ... i was desperated ;p 3. For less popular emulators / systems ie. Amiga CD32, DosBox Pure - performance (compared to RG351p) improved a lot. On RG351P, AmigaCD32 was pretty much un-playable (ie. Roadkill) - even tried some manual cpu frequencies etc., same as ... old great Death Rally dosgame. Now, Death Rally works great :) 4. PSP - hmm this is a little bit dissapointing I would say. Maybe I didn't have enough time but the upgrade doesnt seem to be great - ie. Tekken Dark Resurrection still requires frame-skipping (same as on RG351p) if you don't want to have slowdowns and instant sound stuttering. 5. Dreamcast - yeah, with frameskip, definitely much more games are playable compared to RG351p Yea, I know that on Android (i have this serap Android version with some improvements) performance is much better but hmm at this moment i just like the overall linux os experience much better. With Android, this handheld seems more like a smartphone ;p Maybe someday I'll try :) ps. yes, it's pricey (i bought used Switch Lite almost half price of RG552 (in Europe) ;p), but at the same time, with amber elec OS, beautiful screen, it's probably the best device for NES, SNES, GBA, PC-Engine, MegaDrive, Amiga, C64, Coleco, NeoGeo and PSX systems. For PSP, Dreamcast - hmm depends on viewpoint. I would really like to see nice performance on linux but i guess, no devices guarantee that. I guess android is only viable option (not only for RG552 but also for all the other handhelds)
Does your battery charge up to 100%? When I got my RG552, the very first day it arrived it was dead. Then I plugged it in and after 1,5 hours the charging light went off. When I turned it on the battery was at 89%. The next time I charged it I could get it up to 92%. I only get it to 100% with another charger that didn't come with the device. Therefore it takes way longer to charge, something like 2,5 hours. But then it gets to 100%. Nevertheless, battery life is pretty bad, about 3,5 - 4 hours, I'd say.
@@grzegorz__ Thanks for the reply! I have no chance getting it up to 100% with the included charger. How long does your battery last? I get 3,5 - 4 hours.
I think at this point, even being the Anbernic fan that I am, I have to conclude that the RG552 just isn't enough of an upgrade for me. I mean, sure, it's an upgrade. If something happened to my 351V, I'd replace it with a 552. If someone I know were shopping for a gaming handheld, I'd recommend the 552. I don't think it's _bad_ by any stretch, but I just don't think the cost is justifiable for me to buy it as an upgrade from my 351V solely out of a desire to upgrade. I don't think I'm expecting miracles here, it's not an AYN Odin or something _super_ high end like that, but I just think the price doesn't line up with what I'd get for my money. I guess I'm just going to have to keep an eye on Retroid and PowKiddy for the rest of this year and wait to see what Anbernic give us in 2023.
Maybe people would consider paying Anbernic's extortionate price if they were sharing the money with the devs who have bailed their product out a bit by producing decent firmwares and better Android options. Thats why I give Retroid their due because at least they make the effort to produce their own Android addons and front ends.
I’ve had my RG552 for a few weeks and I’m extremely impressed with what Anbernic chose to do. The very high quality IPS panel with the custom resolution is an absolute joy and is it’s USP over other devices. I’ve been using Android and trying out various frontends and themes, but I’ve come to the conclusion that nothing beats the Linux and Emulation Station experience for the older games. Just a couple of questions, should I wait for AmberElec final or go ahead and install the beta now? Will the beta version update to full or need a clean install later down the line? Do you know how far out the final version is and are there any issues you’ve experienced with beta? Many thanks for all your amazing work as usual.
I haven't bought the 552 and while the screen looks pretty much perfect for whatever you want to throw at it and just beautiful to look at, these ergonomics are absolutely atrocious. Couple that with the lack of a 5G WiFi chip in a 230$ device sold in 2022 and this thing is just not worth it unless you literally only want it for N64 or below games (as Russ said in the video). I feel like all it would take for this thing to be a giant-killer is RGB10Max2-like ergonomics and a better WiFi chip. For me that would make it the best handheld available on the market. I'm hoping Anbernic eventually come to their senses and finally decide to release a hardware revision that modernises the 552 and brings it to 2022 standards. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if that happened.
@@nsp6590 dare I say it, you haven’t bought it. It really doesn’t come across in videos, but as Russ said in both of his, he’s never seen retro gaming on a handheld to this level. It really does make a difference and once you’ve experienced perfect pixel Intel scaling on this device you just can’t go back. For me, I couldn’t care less about 5g WiFi or the odd L2/R2 button positions as I love the D pad and L1/R1 buttons are fine. And yes, N64, Saturn and Dreamcast is excellent using the Android standalone apps which is a bonus. The price is a bit high, but shop around as I did and you’ll find discounts.
@@MsModestyBlaise Well that was sort of the point of my comment. Like I said, the screen on this thing is amazing and I totally get how great it would work for emulation both due to its aspect ratio but also its sheer resolution. And for anyone who's looking to play N64 or below, it works like a dream. GBA would probably look especially good. Sadly though, that's the only demographic whose needs this thing satisfies and it's not a demographic I'm a part of. I'm looking for a streaming device first. Emulation is an afterthought. Hence why better ergonomics are an absolute necessity for me and 5G WiFi is a big plus as well though I could compromise on that depending on the price. I'm not saying that the RG552 is objectively bad or something. I'm saying that by fixing one or two glaring issues (which shouldn't have existed in the first place considering how far modern handhelds have come), Anbernic could have a real winner in their hands. As it stands right now there's no point for A LOT of people to buy this instead of simply waiting a couple of months for an Odin.
@@nsp6590 yeah, there’s definitely two camps and that’s where the Odin comes in. I’m the opposite of you and so the Odin doesn’t interest me. I don’t even want to use Android but as Russ recommends, it’s better for the newer systems. As I mainly use Android for DS (solid performance with touch screen) it’s the Linux/EmulationStation that’s my priority and it’s perfection on this device. For me, and I think many are in the same boat, that IS worth paying for but I did manage to get a good discount as mentioned.
Not a whole lot of steps here for JelOS, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I immediately run into an issue. After flashing Jelos using BalenaEtcher and placing the MicroSD into the 552, when I turn it on, I get a black screen and the fans just go wild. It's been about... 10 minutes that it's doing this, so finally I force turned it off. :(
This device gets so much flak but honestly if I see it for sub200 I'd bite instantly with this update, n64 and android are the top end of what I want and the hardware looks great! I'm mostly a gba and 16bit guy anyway so I'm all about the hardware and ui, which this has in spades. Great vid as always man!
I also wanted to report I followed your written guide for installing the Super Mario 64 port. I downloaded the 351mp version and dropped it in my 552 SD card and it worked perfectly. The game covered the entire screen nicely and the controls worked as they would on the MP. I own Mario 3DAll-stars on Switch and it really is a night and day difference. Would you be able to direct me to where I can find the Half Life port folder? I'd like to also try it on the 552 but it is no longer find it.
Greetings! Now that I have the WIFI adapter, I would like to know how to connect 5GHZ to JELOS, because simply plugging it in, the RG552 does not recognize it? Do you have any settings or drivers to install? Thanks.
I've installed Android 9 from BlackSeraph and I am very pleased with all the improvements. My question is, can I install the recently announced official Android 11 over the unofficial Android 9 build. Thank for any help.
russ i configured the sd card to exfat so the amber elec could scan the roms inside but when i switch to android it says issue with card tap to fix then wants me to format the sd card then it wont work with amber elec again
Hey can you do a Video on how to do your preferred setup for an old windows pc? A lot of people have access too or can get a hold of for free old desktops that they can hook up to an old crt tv.
I'm having trouble getting the ps1 games to show up on the jelos software. I can run the games through retroarch but not on the normal screen with all the game selections. I tried reading the wiki but it's too advance for me. Any help would be much appreciated
I just got my RG552 it had Android 11 pre installed. No play store. No large rectangle icon menu. Just blank. I have some emulators I think if I swipe up. There’s also an ANNOYING “serial console enabled” msg. Please help as these seem to be how all the new ones are shipping. :(
In regards to JELOS; does anyone find that it doesn't boot in automatically at times? On my RG353P I turn it on, memory card inside, and it just remains black 50-75% of the time. I reset the device and the JELOS screen appears. That can't be correct is it? Am I booting it up incorrectly?
You mentioned in the vid that AmberElec for the 552 takes advantage of the new standalone Saturn core for increased Saturn performance. Is the new version for the 351V and MP going to do that as well and will we see increased Saturn performance on those devices?
i agree that the 552 cant stand any ground agains the odin lineup... but since im still waiting for my odin pro to get shipped... means i still have to play my 552 ,) ... good to see some new linux options!
good afternoon I'm from Brazil I got an RG552 this android 9 that you made available can I install it on the 552 or just the black seraphy I didn't understand well please explain it to me there.
RG552 (A Nintendo style clone) looks like it performs better for sure. Anbernic is making two more (Nintendo styled) handhelds. So, let's wait to see on price. I will say one is a PC though so.
What I've found so far with my 552: (All on Android btw) If you turn off Buffered Rendering on PPSSPP: Ridge Racer 1&2, Initial D, GTI Club, Burnout Legends and Burnout Dominator all play full speed at x2 res. Things like Liberty and Vice City stories need buffered rendering on however, but are both playable at x2 anyway. Gripshift, Motorstorm and Pursuit Force aren't playable. Resident Evil Remake on GC is totally playable on Dolphin. As others have said on this thread, if you turn off audio sync on Saturn Yaba Sanshiro it improves performance quite a bit. I tested a few last night: Fighters Megamix, Fighting Vipers and Last Bronx are all playable now (50+ FPS), whilst Sega Rally, Die Hard Arcade, Worldwide Soccer and Virtual On are pretty much full speed. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark can both be played in proper widescreen because the option was in the original games. Looks great, although the controls are a bit twitchy for me. The Android version of GTA: San Andreas runs at full speed, high detail and heavy traffic. Another Metroid 2 Remake looks and plays amazingly in widescreen 😍 ReDream emulator is pretty good, but imo could do with a few more options like PPSSPP. Easy to use though. I've been loving my 552, but I can see why some people aren't willing to spend the money tbh. Has been worth it for me though.
I belive that with the android OS you could play the FF6 pixel remaster... but can you map buttons to native android games instead of using the touchscreen?
It is still in a prerelease status, so it's not on the regular releases page. In the video I show where to navigate to find the pre-releases, and also leave a link to it in the written guide. Here is a direct link: github.com/AmberELEC/AmberELEC-prerelease/releases/
Thanks Russ! Just about to finish setting up Android with LaunchBox, and all worth the extra cash to get it just right. Question - Yaba Sanshiro Pro 2 not showing up on LaunchBox, any thoughts? Thank you!
Hey is the PSX can run on 2x res or more at 60 fps on Linux operating system ? It's the only point that I don't know and keep me on hold to buy this device
Hi is it possible to use à bluetooth controller with amberelc. I have à wifi bluetooth dongle but i don't know i can use my xbox controller with my rg552.
The screen is worse, both in image quality and the 61hz which causes micro stutter, so for games where both systems play identical (PS1 and earlier), RG552 will always give a better experience. Whether Odin or RG552 is better depends on how much you play older retro game.
I like the older channel theme music better. Don't give up on it!
Same!
Agreed!
it's not his he might have to pay royalties on that song
I rather have the content and compromise on intro music . which sadly is actually bad from the algorithm pov since people skip the intro music .
Same here
I addressed the topic of my original music a few months ago, here is a link in case you missed it: ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQHsGUzALVgB3cEN99Mj7Eb1_laUFyAbt
For even better Yaba Sanshiro performance, turn audio CPU cycle synchronization off, it eliminates distorted audio and increases FPS for me.
This is a massive difference. Pretty much any Saturn game I threw at it ran full 60 FPS since I discovered this trick a couple months ago.
@@RyanSaotome Oh shit, really? Great news! You try Fighters Megamix with it?
Android or Linux Retroarch core?
@@MsModestyBlaise On Android, but it may well be the same on Linux, I haven't tested that.
I like that the community takes these drives to the next level with much improved firmware.
Love the intro music, it fits perfectly with the channel
@@Cyko.. Hello ,
can you please tell me where you got the play store apk for android 11 on rg552, because I can't find it. thank you.
Only video with this intro. Love the music - old, this one, and the new intro!!
Yes, I was waiting for this! Thank you Russ!
Cheers Russ, nice to see these improvements. That screen ... my days ... that's soo crispy.
Okay now it’s worth buying one of these.
@@RetroGameCorps
We've had great progression of Pocketable Consoles!
Honest, it feels like this device would fit a price point of 150-180 Dollars.
but you can't buy steam deck right now, only preorder for end of year :DD
@@bigosmieszam Ya, that's why I said wait.

The timing of this video is great though! Thanks!
You have been an outstanding teacher. I tried to join black-seraphim and than I was going to be a Patron of yours, but my card will not go through. I will try again tomorrow. When I say a good teacher. I have dyslexia and you have made this so easy for me, I am really hoping I can get this to work.
it looks a quality piece of kit. I'm tempted.
I've kept my eye on this device for a bit. I would consider getting it if it went on sale for like $150-$180.
Agreed, $175 would be a sweet spot.
Hey Russ, i want to thank you for your videos about emulation, and the detailed tutorial videos.
You have to test out emulation on the galaxy z fold 3. I know its expensive, and its android,
But, the fact that you have almost 4:3 dimensioned screen when you unfold it absolutely amazing for emulation.
PLus the Gamesir X2 works flawless with it (you can even fold it like an 3DS when its connected to the controller)
The Pixel Density is nice, and the overall screen quality is superb. It has an snapdragon 888 which is powerfull enough
for many Emulators. I would love to see a video about this device from you. I think you would like it very much.
thanks for you work, and keep it up. greetings from germany-
That would be great 👍. I also have a fold 3 and am expecting my GS X2 in a few days
honestly the screen alone makes this a compelling buy over the rp2+ but the price is just way too high...
Had to play that intro twice. Smooth.
How are you getting 50 fps+ on THPS3? What are your settings? Are you using Black Seraph's Android 9 build?
WOW Buddy, loving the new intro music...and of course the video. As always, keep up the GREAT work!
thanks for guide russ. just managed to pick 1 of these up for £150 on ebay. thought it was a steal for that price
Not with the one that comes with the RG552.
great timing mine is supposed to come tommorrow!
Hele toffe video .. bedankt voor deze tutorial 👌
This music is really good. Very jolly.
Love your honesty. I enjoy my 552 a lot but have to agree with you on all points.
Oo new intro is funky, it sounds hella fun. Wish it was a little longer tho
Step One: Buy a mint, Japanese PSVita for $110
Step Two: Wait one week
Step Three: install CFW
Step Four: Enjoy portable retro gaming on an OLED screen with a host of 3d-printable plans, available for free.
My 351p got messed up from rubbing alcohol. I'm interested in this device but the price is high.
Hi, yes the 5GHz dongle will work on AmberELEC and JELOS, but they do not have bluetooth support.
Good to know, thanks!
Thank you for this video, really it was just amazing.
Well, today the package arrived with RG552 and ... I like it a lot :) I mean, I'm waiting for Odin Lite but I realised that probably this will still take some time (2, 3, 4 months ?) - i was tired of waiting ;p
To be perfectly fair, I still think that my RG351P (with AmberElec too) is great device too. It's so ... pocketable and the build quality is pretty good :) RG552 has almost same size as Switch Lite.
I installed AmberElec pre-release latest version and here are my thoughts:
1. The screen itself makes the upgrade from 351P really worth. It's so great to see NES, GBA, PC-Engine etc. games on bigger screen. I mean, yea I knew that the screen is much wider, but vertically, there is also a difference. and colors... :)
2. Yeah, it required 10-15 mins controls configuration but ... i was desperated ;p
3. Now, Death Rally works great :)
5. Dreamcast - yeah, with frameskip, definitely much more games are playable compared to RG351p
Yea, I know that on Android (i have this serap Android version with some improvements) performance is much better but hmm at this moment i just like the overall linux os experience much better. With Android, this handheld seems more like a smartphone ;p Maybe someday I'll try :)
ps. yes, it's pricey (i bought used Switch Lite almost half price of RG552 (in Europe) ;p), but at the same time, with amber elec OS, beautiful screen, it's probably the best device for NES, SNES, GBA, PC-Engine, MegaDrive, Amiga, C64, Coleco, NeoGeo and PSX systems.
@@estylegreesye4384 Yes, it charges to 100%. I use the provided charger.
Can you get arkos and doom mods on this??
Russ, the new batocera is out for the rg552. When is your video coming up?
Please how many controllers at once can I do throught dongle? Is it possible to make this console to tv console if I want? Thanks
The one thing I do miss with my Odin is running these types of firmwares!
Maybe people would consider paying Anbernic's extortionate price if they were sharing the money with the devs who have bailed their product out a bit by producing decent firmwares and better Android options. Thats why I give Retroid their due because at least they make the effort to produce their own Android addons and front ends.
Alright from what i have seen this is the best handheld for what im looking for: a premium snes handheld couch experience 👍
Yes, I would agree with that. This is the best SNES / GBA experience out there.
And mame, russ. Don’t forget mame.
Thank you for the Request, You are the Star (Not like Patrick thou)
This device gets so much flak but honestly if I see it for sub200 I'd bite instantly with this update, n64 and android are the top end of what I want and the hardware looks great! I'm mostly a gba and 16bit guy anyway so I'm all about the hardware and ui, which this has in spades. Great vid as always man!
24:12 Yoo, Swordigo. You just took me back to college days.
Ridge racer wasn't full speed even at 1x before, so that's cool!
I have seen Wicked Gamer do those from time to time; I like to see old umpcs/laptops.
do you already have a review video on the GPI CASE 2?
Why has no one done this for the RG503?
I've tried putting a 128gb card into the 2nd card slot but it doesn't create the file folders, what am I doing wrong?
Off topic question since myself and my family are on Oahu. Does the Waiola Store have the best shave ice?? Lol
YES JEFF IT DOES! Softest ice on the island.
cant get my 552 into the teamwin startup after the android update
how can you add/enable bezels using JelOS or AmberElec? can't seem to find the assets in RetroArch menus, and no front-end menus... boo! lol
You mentioned in the vid that AmberElec for the 552 takes advantage of the new standalone Saturn core for increased Saturn performance. Is the new version for the 351V and MP going to do that as well and will we see increased Saturn performance on those devices?
i agree that the 552 cant stand any ground agains the odin lineup... but since im still waiting for my odin pro to get shipped... means i still have to play my 552 ,) ... good to see some new linux options!
hello, so, it will work but after erase, its start and only android is glowing, thats it. what is the fail?

I choose amberelec but when I put hdmi on my TV the image is vertical 😢. Do you know what settings can put the image straight?

I like the new theme ❤ but also liked the old one
Hi, is it possible to configure a bluetooth controller with jelos ? I used a controller on android but it doesn't work with jelos. could you help me ?
RG552 (A Nintendo style clone) looks like it performs better for sure.
Anbernic is making two more (Nintendo styled) handhelds. So, let's
wait to see on price. I will say one is a PC though so.
What I've found so far with my 552:
(All on Android btw)
If you turn off Buffered Rendering on PPSSPP: Ridge Racer 1&2, Initial D, GTI Club, Burnout Legends and Burnout Dominator all play full speed at x2 res.
Another Metroid 2 Remake looks and plays amazingly in widescreen 😍
ReDream emulator is pretty good, but imo could do with a few more options like PPSSPP. Easy to use though.
I've been loving my 552, but I can see why some people aren't willing to spend the money tbh. Has been worth it for me though.
Would be awesome if someone like satisfy would create a grip for that thing. I couldn't use that device without thumb cramps
if i sign up too the Vip pass on Black-Seraph i can access the firmware uprade? or do i need to pay for the royal pass, bit confused
is it possible to silent the fan in the stock lynux?
Awesome video it helped me a lot thanks!! The only thing I don’t know is where/ what folder the bios files go in JelOs??
I belive that with the android OS you could play the FF6 pixel remaster... but can you map buttons to native android games instead of using the touchscreen?
Where can I get the AmberElec for 552? Only can find for 351 P/M/MP & V
Really loved the 351 on my MP. WOULD LOVE IT ON MY 552, Please help?
It is still in a prerelease status, so it's not on the regular releases page. In the video I show where to navigate to find the pre-releases, and also leave a link to it in the written guide. Here is a direct link: github.com/AmberELEC/AmberELEC-prerelease/releases/
Thanks Russ! Just about to finish setting up Android with LaunchBox, and all worth the extra cash to get it just right. Question - Yaba Sanshiro Pro 2 not showing up on LaunchBox, any thoughts? Thank you!
Hi Francis, unfortunately Yaba Sanshiro 2 doesn't work properly with LaunchBox right now, the developer hasn't enabled that functionality yet.
How to return from a game to menu in jelos?
Hey is the PSX can run on 2x res or more at 60 fps on Linux operating system ? It's the only point that I don't know and keep me on hold to buy this device
Can dolphin mmjr2 work with this?
Hallelujah Pushing Moonlight here
Hi is it possible to use à bluetooth controller with amberelc. I have à wifi bluetooth dongle but i don't know i can use my xbox controller with my rg552.
ONce the Odin Lite is available, the RG552 is dead in the water. The Odin Lite is better in every ways and will be $199.
The screen is worse, both in image quality and the 61hz which causes micro stutter, so for games where both systems play identical (PS1 and earlier), RG552 will always give a better experience. Whether Odin or RG552 is better depends on how much you play older retro game.
good luck with that 16:9 screen
Is battery life improved with updated JELOS firmware on the RG552? If so, by how much?
I wonder when we will have a decent Gamecube handheld emulator
Odin?
steam Deck ?
Odin?
Win3 by gpd
curious which handheld feels most comfortable and ergonomic at this level of performance or equivalent? was a bit turned off by the rp2+ button layout
What adapter do I need for that Wi-Fi dongle?
Is there a guide to instalking the chip inside? I have the skills but need to know what to do. Google did not find anything :(
The Black Seraph Patreon page has instructions on how to do it, and I'm sending my unit to a friend who will be filming the process (I think...)
@@RetroGameCorps is the wifi and Bluetooth available on the linux side as well?
@@SweetBlu WiFi is, but not Bluetooth.
@@RetroGameCorps even with the internal dongle mod?
Is there a way you can set it up where all games can be played on a full screen?
Do the custom firmwares have options within the software to update or do i have to go through sd flashing everytime there's something new?
They all have over-the-air updates, super handy.
