My New Triumph Speed Triple 1050 - How I Got It For CHEAP - First Impressions
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 окт 2024
- This is an introduction or walkaround of my 2007 Triumph Speed Triple 1050; Effectively replacing my 2006 FZ1 as my more reliable modern daily bike. I had to be patient with securing this bike, but the patience has paid off by saving me a decent amount of money. Not really a full review just yet, that comes later.

Those era speed triples are the best looking by a mile. Nice score, even if the motor was blown it would have still been a bargain. I put a tail tidy on mine, looks way better to me.
Agreed, since i'm a fan of old stuff, its a nice combination of the 90's and present that somehow still holds up...especially in stock form.
I think a fender eliminator will come later for me too....more so for dodging those pesky cameras XD
This bike was designed by an italian, the same guy responsible for designing the Moto Guzzi Griso and other beautiful bikes... it says a lot... bikes are so ugly nowadays
That was a great aquisition, in my opinion.
Glad you're back with a new video upload. I think you are probably one of the most underrated RUclips creators out there. I really miss your bike history vids. Great stuff bro!
Thanks alot, I have a consistency problem but I try to remain quality lol
@@Theillestrator1050 It's a shame youtube rewards quantity over quality..
Your videos are always GOOD.
I bought mine brand new in 2007, still stock (apart from a tail tidy) She’s now my sweet 16 and I still love her to bits!!
So the FZ1 is gone? I got my FZ1 partly due to your channel and will not be getting rid of it, unless it is crashed beyond economical repair. i love it. But you have such a great channel i will be sticking around even if no more FZ1 footage. loved your CBX show and great research you put into your vids. The time you put in is obvious and appreciated. I usually learn something instaed of having a motovlogger just read from a wikipedia page that we can all see for ourselves. You on the other hand come up with all sorts of info not easily found in just a minute or two of web surfing so hats off. You really put the work in.
The beauty of the Triumph triple is that it has a pretty flat torque curve and there’s no bump in the horsepower curve. The HP is very linear and peaks at red line. So around town, in the lower rpm range the power is fairly mellow but get that out on the highway and get the revs up and it seems it’ll never slow down. Beautiful power delivery. Good to see you back. 👍
I've been away from your channel for a while (sorry...) but just wanted to say it's so good to come back and hear you've landed a gig at Revzilla and see you've got a lockup (no more dismantling bikes to carry through the house) love that Speed Trip too 👌🏻
YES BOIIIIII WELCOME TO THE TRIPLE GANG 🔥🔥🔥
Yeeeeeeeeee
Glad you're back. Sick bike! It'd be great to see some more of your riding around NY vids if that's still your thing.
Congrats on the Bike and the Job. Great to see more videos from you. Keep it upright and safe.
Thanks, will do!
So happy to have you back. I've missed classical music over riding through New York
Enjoy the new bike and I look forwards to some more interesting videos. I haven't been able to ride my bike more than a couple of hundred miles this year, so it is nice to see one of my favourite biker channels doing some good miles. Happy riding. 😁
Thanks alot, and you as well
My brother where have you been!! And your back with a triumph speed triple 🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾!
The champ is back! Congrats on working at Zilla. My guys work at the Newport one a few streets down from my place.
Ah yes Newport Beach. We at Brooklyn view them as the "anti" lmao!
Love my 2007, with the stock low boy arrow exhaust. It's a classy upgrade IMO. If you haven't been above 7500 rpm yet, you're in for a treat.
It lifts the front wheel so easily lmao
I've had my 08 Speed Triple for 2 years now and it's been my favorite so far. Its such a nice cruiser at 55mph in 6th.
A shining endorsement, love it.
@@Theillestrator1050 check the wires leaving from the ignition barrel near the headstock. I think it's mainly a problem with the 08 and up refresh, but some of the wires didn't have enough slack and when I turned full left one day, it snapped 3 wires stranding me in a Wendy's parking lot
Awesome bike. Love those speed triples. Congrats on the revzilla job and the great deal.
The round headlights Speed Triple are the best looking ones. I test rode that bike and fell in love with it: torquey motor, nice handling and comfortable. Correct me if I'm worng but in its last year of production I thought they released a R model that had had Ohlins front & rear.
Funny - I know exactly where Bob's BMW is
You came up with that bike fam! 💪🏼 great video!
Great seeing you are at it again and bringing the heat with a badass tripple. I got my F800ST from Bobs.
Thanks, Bob's is awesome!
My guys back and with the Speed Trip!! Bruh, don’t let your co-workers spin the block with with it😜. Real nice bike👌
Congrats. I have recently picked up a 2008 Tiger Sport 1050 with 25k miles from a bike shop owner who used it as his daily in pristine condition. Got some new soft side panier bags and have a touring screen on backorder then it will be ready for some Touring. These bikes can embarrass 600 bro's. Have a aftermarket pipe on mine (British Delkevic), sounds great and pulls great.
My favourite youtuber returns. Great bike. I love a good triple.
Thanks for the visit, glad to see ya
Damn bro that's a steal, I'm happy for you. Good on you getting in at RevZilla.
Yes!! It's been a while!! Hope u & Ginger & fam are all good. We fixin ta deal wit hurricane sh!t this video will help take my mind off of it thank you Illest 🙏
Hey man! All good and even better over here. Be safe my guy
Man, I knew you were gonna get a Speed Triple!
Not only are these the best looking Speeds, the '05 - '07 model years have the best looking wheels as well.
You're gonna love that bike! I certainly love my '06.
Word, do you know how easy it is to retrofit the 08 to 10 brembos?
@@Theillestrator1050 I know it's not as simple as getting the Brembo calipers and mounting them on your existing forks.
I think the spacing for the caliper bolts is different, so you might need the whole front end.
Been fowling The Illestrator since before I got my license in the the rebel 250 days. super cool to see he got one.
Thanks for sticking around so long!
You have to post it more. Also love the bike, someday I'll buy one, the sound it makes is amazing
Will do, I have a few ideas for posts in the near future
Stylin´ and profilin´. One hell of a comeback video. Congratulations, she´s gonna be a lot of fun.
Thanks!
Yea Boi... The legend is back and better than ever! Amazing to.see you back and with a great bike at that. Congrats on the Speed Triple.
Thank you!
Awesome to hear about the job, man. Bike looks and sounds nice, too. I looked at a Speed Triple I wanted bad when I was trying to get another bike, it was white, but I couldn't do it at the time. That lead to me just waiting a while to get another SV1000. Glad to see another upload from you. I enjoy your vids.
I used to have an SV1000 and yeah they are great bikes, easily one of the best sounding but they deserve a sprocket change for acceleration. Too bad mine had so many issues lol
Been a minute since you posted a video. Hope you're doing well and awesome Speed Triple!
Yeahhhh, I suck with consistency so thanks for sticking around. All good and even better around here, thanks and likewise lol
Good to see ya back on youtube !
I bought this same bike 4 years ago in roulette green. Its a beast on the track! First thing i did was find a flyscreen kit A9728015 and a belly pan A9708135 for it. It pulls it all together perfectly
Might consider a belly pan, but after i clean up the rust on the headers!
Great to see you back on the tube, loving the triple, the bug eye lights are cool. If you think prices in NY are bad, the cheapest one I've seen here in Norway is $8k and that's Fall prices just before six months of being parked. Enjoy yourself and keep it shiny side up.
8k? thats insane....Thanks, and likewise!
i own a 05 black speed as well. Everything from the meaty shift *thunk* to the straight cut gear whine. The triple just has a feel and sound that other bike wish they had. I swapped out my cans for the Remus hexacone carbon fiber exhaust. happy riding man!
viragos are exellent bikes. the 1st gen like yours tend to have a bag of rocks instead of a starter, but that is an easy fix. I got a 1995 virago 1100 and won't trade her for nothing. congratulations on the new job and on the new bike, brother!
Good to see you back man. Congrats on the new whip! 🙌🏻
Appreciate it!!
Talk about a funny small world situation....I live 20 minutes from Bob's Bmw and looked at this bike in person. Almost bought it just because of how cheap it was but the cruise control on my S1K has me spoiled and when I get the occasional itch to ride an analog bike I have an 03 RC51 so I ended up buying a 2019 Crystal White RS from a dealer in PA. I love speed triples in general just for the noise, with a system they sound like baby 911 gt3's. Definitely big congrats on your new toy! I figured it would make someone super happy for the little bit of money they were asking for it. Surprised it made it all the way up to NYC though.
What a great buy. I've owned an '07, a '13 and a '13 R. Fantastic bikes. To this day I still own 3 Speedys - Two '96s and an '01. Once warm weather comes again, if you ever find yourself in western Mass, shoot me a message and I'd be happy to let you take a spin on my 1st and 2nd gen Speedies just to see where it all started. Ride safe.
The GOAT is BACK! imma get that popcorn right now!🔥🔥🔥
Lmao
I've got the same bike in the same colour. It does need the fly screen though. Had her for more than 6 years. Nothing beats it for fun around town for this price point.
Good to see you! Love the new ride! Can’t wait until you can get out of the city and open it up a bit. 😎
You and me both!
Nice bike! Great video, loving all of them.
I own a jet black 2006. It’s cool to hear your radiator fan as well, i’ve been told Speedys like it hot. So hearing the fan is common.
As far as the bike goes, keep an eye on the rear suspension linkage: grease those needle bearings. Keep an eye on the cam chain tensioner, they sometimes get stuck. Some people change them for manual ones. Mine had sticking front brakes, so a seal change was needed. Maybe yours is fine. I have read somewhere the Nissin brake pistons have been recalled in the past, and they changed them for better coated ones.
Take a look at the oem Triumph bar end mirrors, they really look bad-ass.
Enjoy your bike!
Thank you for the insight
I read about the sticking brakes, is the symptom of the issue constantly hearing the brakes rubbing? like the "shhhhhhhhhhh" noise?
@@Theillestrator1050 yes, like the noise when you just roll the bike around. I noticed when my discs got a bit discoloured. When I lifted the front wheel, it wouldnt spin freely. Just three quarters of a turn, which is not good. You could also feel a lot of resistance when turning the front wheel with your hands.
Also that large needle roller in the rear hub needs lubrication
Hell yeah congrats man! I've had my 07 1050 for about a year now, such a sweet bike while also being sensible
Couldn't agree more!
Nice bike, probably my favorite generation of ST. Hope Revzilla lets you start making some videos for them.
Nice grab!! I just bought an 09 in the same colorway and what a fantastic bike. Definitely a lot of power on tap; it's been enough to pucker me up a few times! Definitely a lot of smiles per mile.
Bruh, congrats on the bike, and congrats on the new gig.
Congratulations, mate. Triumph triples are some of the best engines ever made.
Thanks alot!
Definitely looks great in pearl white and suits you to a tee! I might be in the market for one of these myself, but I haven't the heart to sell my trusty Street Triple.
Wellcome back to the world of the living brother, hope to see more content from you. Awsome bike :D
Thanks alot
on my 2nd speed trip , funnest bike made ! sounds like you've got a great dealership ...may be worth the trip from Philly.
pipe , tail kit and call it done !
It’s good to see you post dude, can’t wait for more🔥🔥🔥
Thanks man
I'm looking forward to buy a Speed Triple from 2012 but man that gen it's also pretty nice. Love that triple and gear whine sounds
Good luck on your search!
Really nice new bike. I'm wondering what you did with the K100. I'm still working on my K cafe racer.
I still have it, I don't ride it very much but I still have it. I don't think i'll ever get rid of it!
Good deal, nice bike find man. The giggling lmao I dig the exhaust change idea
Right on!
This looks exactly like my 06. White with the blue text. I Love this Gen S3. Man, these were flying to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds back when it was considered absurd to go that fast.
Dude, congrats!
I wanted the tiger way back when, but bought a Tracer 900 a few years back.. love triples!
Right on!
You scored a good one, that's the one I would get, better than the first one's, or the one's after. Those headlights are just Cool. Good looking, hard charging machine!
Thanks, I really like the proportions on these versus the others
@@Theillestrator1050 I was looking at them real hard, But I'm More muscle cruiser guy, but that would be the one I'd get Over any others, I just got a 1900 Roadliner s an I'm real happy with it. 120 foot-pounds!!!
Good to see you back, love the bike!
Hey, thanks!
Nice pickup man! Also congrats on the job at Revzilla 🤙🤙
Appreciate it!
He needs a Belly Pan and a Front Cowl something awful, but it looks so good. Going through these videos has me missing mine!
Bruv, I got my '06 SpeedTriple for $3k and absolutely adore it. I live in York PA, we should meet up!! YO AND YOU HAVE A VIRAGO!? I have an 82 xv750!! There is a thing called a 15 minute tuneup, where you start the bike and just let it idle for 15 minutes and the computers will re-learn the bike.
You’re alive bruv 🙏🏽
Welcome back for your Triumph-ant return to youtube... again.
Glad to see an upload. 😆
Lmao.....yeahhhhh, you know me
Great to see you back . Good score on the Bike .
Thanks 👍
Bro I was at the revzilla store like two weeks ago saw you bike, went full fan mode wish you were working that day would have been cool if you tried out my xsr900 congrats bro
Thanks man, maybe you'll catch me on another day lol; Im usually there on weekdays.
XSR is a great bike, my coworker at the store has one and he let me try it, but I have alot of experience with the FZ09 so thats a given lol
Oh look! The illestrator is back. Yay! Nice bike too
Oh yeah!
@@Theillestrator1050 BTW Congrads on that Revzilla thing. Should be right down you alley. Damn good fellas.
Congrats on the new bike!
I also have a white 07 speed triple and absolutely love it! i even got mine for the same price, haha, got it with a blown motor. after ordering a new motor and paying the backfees to the DMV i ended up at about the same overall cost. Hope you enjoy it as much as i enjoy mine
Leo Vince GP shorty is the way to go for exhaust! and get a british customs master cylinder reservoir!
Nice, Def gonna look into the reservoir, it keeps getting recommended
Oddly specific question but did you buy it from a guy in Virginia?
@@Hondatech26 no, I got it from one of my buddies who's the original owner here in southern california
Yep, I can relate to this, probably never letting go of my 2010. It has a couple siblings now tho (funilly enough, an '04 naked SV1K is one of them), but I need a garage man, bikes don't keep well sitting on the street in the UK weather 😭
The 2009 1050 SE 15 year John Bloor Special Edition is probably THE best looking bike ever made. It was a retrograde step getting rid of those lovely Bug Eye twin headlights. Seriously the 1050 engine outshines later engines too.
Thats a good one. I think triumph ought to make a dealer option for a modern interpretation of round lights on the new 1200...but what do I know.
On the topic, I gotta see how easy it is to get 08-10 brembos on an 05-07
@@Theillestrator1050 Those Nissin are really good brakes - they just need a really good overhaul every 12 months to keep the pots in order. Upgrade the pads to EBC, but they might be a bit grabby in urban traffic.
i live about an hour away from where your bike was made, you have an awesome bike.
I was looking at those hard for a while before settling on a different bike, but still love that bike so much!
Same! But then I spun back around and picked one up lol!
@@Theillestrator1050 Good to see you back, looking forward to your upcoming content. By the way your Buell series was top-notch, probably the best I’ve ever seen covering that brand. Keep up the good work.
congrats .. hope you find some green hills time to tick some speeds off at your chosen hands and turn your wheels around on and over and up on and down from until you realize rock breathes finer than displacement bodies do ... loved hearing you use that word on the cbx series
Haha thank you
I’m in this same situation lol, found a 07’ With 12k miles for 3 grand 🤯, dude said he doesn’t ride anymore so it just needs new tags lmao a freaking steal!
I love those bikes. It's weird, I live by the ocean, and had to move away for a couple of years. The salt air totally jacked up my 04 ZRX1200. Yours doesn't look anywhere near as bad, in fact yours looks pretty damn good, so you did an excellent good job cleaning it up.
Thanks! I can tell that even though the corrosion was there, the owner did what they could to protect it
The ocean spray is ruthless. I got a '22 Hayabusa back in May and even though there are houses in front of where I live, the beach is like 1/8 of a mile away and has rusted most of my poor bike. It's a torture keeping up with oxidation. 😢
Pumped to see a video from you sir!
Thanks for checking it out!
One of my favorite bikes of all time. that 1050 is a monster.
it is so damn quick
I tried to talk my wife into letting me buy that exact bike. I remember the post and everything! I glad I didn’t. I’ll have one soon.
Very nice! I had to go back and watch Tom Cruise ride a Speed Triple 955 in Mission Impossible 2. All I could think was "How are his short-ass legs touching the ground?" Must be movie magic. The bad guy had a sweet Daytona, but I was always a sucker for the Striple, even with the huge levers and square mirrors. Something I never noticed before, when both bikes are on the beach for the big bike dual, they both somehow grow knobbies. Let me tell ya, a Daytona with full dirt bike knobbies looks weird.
Lmaooooo, those are VERY good points there. Movie magic!
Really highlights how they dropped the ball on the styling of the new one.
I'm not a retro/heritage guy, but they should have put the round LED lights from the new Rocket 3 on the speed triple.
Right, or at-least make round ones a dealer catalogue option...
@@Theillestrator1050 Speed Triples should have round headlights.
It's what gave them their identity.
New one just looks like another bike.
Congrats on your new awesome bike. Looks dope AF. And yes, change the cans. ;-)
Thanks, Yeah as much as i like the look, they are literally just whispering along. Gonna hold off on unnecessary spending but I will at some point.
@@Theillestrator1050 you sir are a wise man, much love from the Netherlanders. Looking forward to the future.
Funnily enough, I'm going to be helping get one of these back to road soon, friend of mind got hit by a car and has been recovering for over a year now and its about time to get the tripple singing again.
Damn, what does it need to get back on the road?
@@Theillestrator1050 Theyve already sorted out a new tank, but it still needs to be installed. What's left is swapping chain and sprockets, brake pads, fluids since its been sitting a while, and the controls need sorting. Need to try and lighten the clutch lever as much as possible so my friend's injured wrist can still ride. Not a ton all in, mostly maintenance stuff, shes just waiting for the money to get it done.
hell yeah! i just got one too - 9/24/22- '09 with 4 thousand miles on it.
Nice! Practically new!
Had a Triumph Trophy and even that big girl was fast. That engine sound... I would say enjoy your Triple but you will.
100%
Definitely got a good deal on the bike congrats and enjoy have a good day and stay safe Jimmy from North Attleboro Massachusetts
Thanks alot, you as well!
Welcome to the speed triple fam!
Thanks!
Damn that's a freaking steal👍
Yesterday I came to your channel to see when's the last time you uploaded. Fucking weird seeing a notification this morning.
Lmao, yeah I put up a community post like 2 weeks ago as a heads up some stuff was coming
arrow do a great aftermarket exhaust that is the same 2 pipe design as stock looks but sound ace. worth it in my opinion. nice bike mate
Go grab some arrow exhausts and paint the shiny headlights black. Makes the bike look way better in my opinion.
Yeah? I was actually telling someone that normally I would rush to get the top triple area (like everything up there next to the headlight) coated black but I can't lie, since the chrome is in such good shape, I really like it. Same with the exhaust, its all shiny and nice. (Plus in some goofy way, the headlight buckets kinda act like functional mirrors XD)
Nice bike mate, good video, thanks!
Good looking bike at a great price. But your tires are the only things between you and the road and tires are not that expensive. I get some new tires ASAP. Best of luck with it.
if youre looking at new tires, I got Dunlop Roadsport 2's mounted on my SV1000 this year and they been great. THe difference between these and full on sport tires like Q3 or Q4 is ... the type of riding thats either very dangerous or very illegal outside of trackdays, haha
Cheap too, ~$200 for a set!
How do they perform in the rain/cold?
@@Theillestrator1050 good question, I'm guessing not amazing, based on the rather minimal tread lines. since i work from home I'm not really out riding when it's rainy out, anymore.
I've heard of folks pulling wheelies and stoppies in the rain with pilot road 6's though, so maybe Michelin's your guy
Hell yeah man! New content!
Yeahhhh, I need to get better with consistency lol
I was going to get one of them to replace my Speed Four that had just gone up in flames! In the end I went for a Ducati Monster 1100.
Flames!?
@@Theillestrator1050 unfortunately yep. The plug from the stator to the regulator melted, shorted out the wires which then set fire to the crankcase breather pipe underneath the tank.
That'd be a good price even here in the U.K. Cheapest on ebay right now works out at $3420. Oh and thanks to our weather yours would be classed as "Near mint" haha
Lmao, she definitely cleaned up quite nice
Congratz, it's a beauty
Great bike and what a bargain price, enjoy it man I no you will
what kind of jacket is that? looks dope
Put a set of Bridgestone Battleax S22's& head out of town and ride some twists. I've got lots of vids on my channel riding the 1050RS Speed Trip.
I checked out a few of your vids, I'll keep the recommendation in mind thanks
@@Theillestrator1050 Arrow's are factory fitted on the RS you might be able to score some used in the UK cheap as the exchange rate is currently pretty good against the greenback ;-)
