Very shocked me am living in Aberdeen for 6 years used train many times and this 1 times without expecting for the big accident at Aberdeen For whether that day was horrible but it's not surprise me because Aberdeen the horrible weather can coming many times. This time accident it's bad luck i thinks Feel sorry for who have die and they family as well.
13 years of no passenger deaths during derailments on the national network has ended. My heart goes out to the passenger who died, along with the driver and guard.
I am a keen Rail Enthusiast from the South West of England, when both these Power Cars where Ex-FGW Machines I saw them many times but since they have been under ownership of ScotRail I have travelled in both of them. Im well entruly Heartbroken to hear of this. May both the People and for that matter Rolling Stock (unable to be Re-paired) rest in Peace.
I understand the driver abandoned the journey to Aberdeen and reversed back up to Stonehaven and it looks like a landslip before the bridge caused the derailment of the front cab as it went over the bridge. Is it possible the driver would have reversed the train without changing ends, so he was driving blind? Or would he have had to go up to the other end to drive it back to Stonehaven?
Having said that, as the driver is said to have perished then presumably he was in the front cab that went into the ravine, so he must have changed end. Odd then that he didn't see the land slippage in time to stop.
Question: when they moved the heavy, powerful, Class 43 HST trains from GWR to Scotrail, did Network Rail check that the track foundations were capable of taking these trains? Was this accident caused purely by the weather, or is it possible that the frequent use of these locomotives was too damaging to the track bed when the soil was very wet. That line has been in use for many years, and maybe it's just coincidence that it's collapsed in the first heavy rainfall since the HSTs were moved to Scotland, but maybe it's not such as coincidence at all. Worth looking at, I think.
Wouldn't be surprised if the sun just plunged itself into the earth at this point, seems like very week now there's a new terrible disaster happening, just terrible
It looks like the drivers power car is alongside the north end of the bridge, and either burnt out or upside down - also looks like it's facing the opposite way to the direction of travel. Notice the train was travelling towards Stonehaven on the right (ie. Northbound) line from the south.
Negligence. This should never have happened. The transport sector factors weather into their day to day operations. This extremely heavy rain was forecast correctly days in advance and controllers knew the very heavy rainfall had arrived. The section of track in question has an acknowledged landslip hazard and yet a train was sent down that track as normal without it having been checked and catastrophic results ensued. The relevant regulator and the train company will already have very astute lawyers working on reducing liability and political fallout.
The track was clear when the train first passed over it as it was returning back as the line ahead was blocked so the slip must of only happened seconds or minutes at most before the trains impact
This horrifying train wreck was the result of the dilapidated condition of Britain’s rail infrastructure. Starved for decades of essential maintenance funding, the railways have been transformed by successive governments into state-subsidised cash cows for private corporations.
The weather around these parts have been REALLY WEIRD EH!! i live in Cupar only miles from the crash and there was a thunder storm for 24 hours and it did nOt move the whole time but in the mornings there was a low thick fog creeping its way across the whole country, very wet with rain and moisture. No surprises this type of ground is soft especially with the weight of the trains fling over them. I would have met the conductor on several occasions and i have a slight memory of their faces on this route. The trains need to built a little better and seat belts on non straight routes are essential. There would be nothing wrong with building Steel PODS around the seats to protect each passenger, a bit like a F1 car but made from cheaper materials but still just as afective. Short journeys should be a max of 50 say miles per hour and anything faster and longer must be POD seat trains. Like this so it gets noticed or make your own comment, we the people have the best idea's as were the ones with our life's on the LINE!

The people of Scotland must be wondering who this woman claiming to be Elizabeth II can be....Scotland has never had an Elizabeth on the throne. So the correct title is Elizabeth I. And the crash is possibly due to Maggie Thatcher's feeble attempts to suck-up to her sponsors by splitting Scot Rail/Brit Rail into different sections. One to own the engines; One to own the Stations; and One to offer Track Maintenance...Thank god she's now handed in her 'brown paper envelopes' and we can eventually get back to normal.....

heart goes out to the three people who died..
God bless the families of those killed and injured. May they be strenghtened in their time of need.
Amen
The one consolation is that the train wasn't full of passengers.
Covid restrictions meant the train had a fraction of the normal number of passengers.

13 years that’s pretty amazing though it sounds too good to be true people at least got hurt during those years
The deaths only happen from Railtrack / Network rail incompetence.
None of the victims would have left their home thinking it was their last time :(
Our first major railway derailment since Grayrigg in 2007

From Pictures I have seen, 43140 will be for scrap. 43140s cab has gone and the luggage/guards area has been destroyed by fire.

Good Job. A conspiracy theory.
It was caused by a landslide that got on the tracks
The HST’S were already operating on that line under LNER.
So sad. God save the queen who has 20bill houses. Yet UK infrastructure is not upto date!
Utter nonsense. These are the first rail fatalities in 13 years.
