Crazy how this got recommended to me hahah. I used to ride this line to school and back for about 5 years in my highschool days during the mid to late 2010s, brings back some memories. Hopefully you enjoyed it more than I did. 😆
At 16:24 on the right is a state elementary and high school (no. 18), and on the left you can see students sitting on a demolished building remains. The school has programs in eastern languages, e.g. Japanese.
The initial idea was to put a bus station on top of the return loop for a better connection between regional bus services and the tram to the city centre. The current location of the bus station would then be freed for redevelopment. However, the political changes struck, and the project was never finished.
Thanks very much. A great ride. NBew subscriber and recommended this to my friend in India. What country? Somewhere in Europe, I presume? I will return for more. Greetings from Australia.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching and thank you very much for subscribing. This is Bulgaria. Sofia being the capital and the only city in Bulgaria with a tram system.
Ancient Chechoslovakian tram, cobble, metal squuek, humping, outdated stations, asphalt patched 1000 times and scenery consisting of comunist brutalist palaces, tastless new buildings developped by shady 'entrepreneurs' and lovely late 19th century buildings with neglected facades... Apart from trams being red, feels like home! Greetings from Zagreb, EU capital of inadequate public transportation and architectural chaos!
things arent that bad in real life. trams are with very soft ride i suppose air cushoned. i compare em to the old swiss trams we had they were from 1950. Really ancient . Those are like space shuttles.. haha almost :P the "lovely 18 century buildings doesnt have elevators and are very prone to fungi inside also not safe in case even of a light earthquake . ''Commie"' building blocks are very comfortable if they are renovated. Too bad they used to give em to gupsies for free. Anyways life aint that bad as it seems online so cheer up. Greetings from Sofia. p.s zagreb is two levels better then here.
honestly why not convert all of the rail to standard gauge? i know 75% now is 1009mm gauge but then you got the planned todor kablechkov rail from bulgaria blvd to arena sofia not only that but also the tram ring if all built with standard gauge, the 1009mm gauge section would be around 50% only problem is that we need to get new trams
Thank you for watching. It's a possibly they might in the future, although with the expansion of the Metro, some of the 1009mm gauge routes have closed.
well if the land above the terminus was never developed then... whats the reason for it to still exist? other than not messing up with traffic i guess... its interesting to see what other socialist countries did with their tram infrastructure, it'd be better than what we had in Romania for the most part...
Thank you for watching! They've kept the return loop for its intended purpose of turning trams and sending them back towards the city centre. They just never opened the stop there.

I visited Sofia in 2008, and I was enthralled by their trams! I have been waiting 16 years for a video like this! Fantastic
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it. I filmed quite a few more tram routes so there will be more videos like this on the way!
this is why we need train and tram nerds on youtube
Thank you for watching! I've made a few more videos like this one!

Thank you for watching and the info.
Nice return loop.
Something a bit different! Thank you for watching!

Thank you for the info.
Excellent video! Just wondering, did you specifically ask for permission to stay on board after the last stop?
Thank you! No I just stayed on. If the had asked me to leave I would have asked if it was ok, to stay on. If they'd said no I would have just got off.
Thanks very much. A great ride. NBew subscriber and recommended this to my friend in India. What country? Somewhere in Europe, I presume? I will return for more. Greetings from Australia.

Crime of the century :) Do you remember those paternoster continuous lifts from the fifties and sixties?
Thank you for watching! Yes, I used one in Cologne a few years ago.
Tatra T6A5 is the best sounding tram in the world!

Thank you for watching! I agree! I'd love to visit Zagreb again one day.
These trams were made in 1997-1999, so they were Czech, not Czechoslovak

I live right next to one of the stations
