They kinda planted cash-grab and boredom if you don't pay, these games look to generate money. "Why spend time when you can spend money?" - Candycrush grandmas. Going through the effort and then stopping every now and then to an energy bar, having an advert thrown at you... you know, the usual.
Because most of them lack actual complex skill and are just cas grab minigames. Those that do require skill are too straightforward and lack variety and a solid playerbase. The limitations of touchscreen play is also a major problem as there is oly so much you can do with a flat screen and bad latency. Compare that to console games or PC games which can utilize all their comfortably placed keys and buttons and consist of ACTUAL devoted gamers and not just tiny 6 year olds playing on their moms ipad
