The lyric "through fire and flames" is actually genius because it applies to both characters and also "through fire and the flames" is a song by dragonforce which could be seen as the dragon born having the soul of a dragon and as such having the force of one.

I could not have been more impressed with the final version of this. I was on the Baritone 1 and Bass lines. The fact that everyone recorded their lines entirely remotely with varying different sound set ups and ended up sounding this good is a genuinely superb accomplishment. Bravo team. Bravo Brandon.

Ah bummer that I have no professional singing experience nor good recording material as I would have loved to partake in this. I'll keep my main review for the main Fireborn song but I still gotta mention a few things exclusive to this version (also noting that I haven't listened to the main version yet and will do so after writing this so I may fail to mention some correlations/differences between the two).
For one I find it funny that the acapella version has a better track art than the OG version. Not that the OG is bad, mind you, it's just the trend that Commission songs (and by extension this one given it's an alternate one) get much more extravagant track arts so we've been spoiled to a point where regular track arts feel underwhelming.
As for the song itself I must mention that *DAMN* people you guys are good, that entire choir is great, from the people that sing directly to the ones that only partake in the background choir itself, everyone did a magnificent job to the point where I could swear there's some actual instruments at some points but nope, only singing. Was a great idea to make an acapella version of this track.
I mentioned it in the Yates server but this acapella version really makes it stand out just how well this song fits the theme of "tale of legend sung as a story". It definitely feels like something you'd hear in a tavern in an Elder Scrolls game (y'know, minus the fact that 36 people wouldn't be singing it in the tavern (yes I counted)) which is of course helped by the fact that the lyrics definitely fit that theme of "counted tale". It doesn't go into details about each characters' abilities, just goes on an overall retrospective of how their battle of legend has gone. Hell, even the end stays ambiguous as to who wins, citing both fighters' names in a way that does them justice and doesn't favor either.
In fact, in the whole entire song there's a grand total of 1 segment that stands out as being "biased" towards one character and that would be the ultimate verse before the final chorus and outro which quite obviously favors the Chosen Undead via having much higher pitched female choirs that sing more ominous lyrics in a much more tense way. And this is a most interesting bit about the acapella version as Dark Souls choirs tend to be "supportive" of the main instruments which is why they're generally much less present and have a much more potent emotional value to them (in this case, they raise the tension a lot) so of course when they're acapella they don't have the instruments to accompany present which does make it sound a bit off.
*However* this isn't a bad point in the slightest. While I personally like that segment a bit less due to purely personal tastes, in terms of sheer quality it's on par if not even better than the rest of the song because the very fact that it sounds "off" without the instruments is a proof that it was a perfect recreation of the classic Dark Souls choirs. Seriously, if the rest of the song would fit as an Elder Scrolls tavern song, this bit would fit absolutely perfectly as a Dark Souls boss phase transition song.
Also, I shan't do it because otherwise I'll be there for a whole entire day but I absolutely adore how each of the lines has a reference or deeper meaning to it. Really adds to the song. As a slight example of both:
--"Waiting by the fire for this cold to pass"
Could be interpretted as the Chosen Undead relying on his Bonefires to resurrect each time "the cold", that being the Dragonborn, "passes", that meaning his defeat.
-The line right after, "Gathered in the moonlit night"
Is quite directly a reference to Fromsoft's Moonlight Greatsword which is shown in all their games.
And that's but two lines but it shows just how well written those lyrics are. So I must further emphasize how amazing they are.
Overall this acapella version was a wonderful idea and managed to make all the talented people that took part in it stand out all the more in addition to making it feel like an in-universe song which fits the overall "tale of legend" theme this track has. Like I said at the start I haven't listened to the actual Fireborn track yet but I can say that if this version is already that great then the normal song must be absolutely wonderful. Definitely a grandiose work made by everyone involved in this track.
