    Hello Christopher! Please tell something about your test equipment. How big is your test chart and how far it from the (usual, say... m-m-m.. 35mm) lens?

    Small telephoto primes that are optimized for still photography would be more important, especially for street photography. 90mm or 100mm f2.8 and 135mm f4... That would be a great addition to Sony's G-series (50mm f2.5 G...), but I'd buy such a lens from Samyang as well

    So this is the first of Samyang's V-AF series which is not derived from a lens for still ptotography?

    Very impressive little lens. Very sharp, nice bokeh, the distortion is really not that bad I think. Did not notice it in the video footage. Nice and light as well. Might have to keep an eye on the 20mm version. If that has manageable distortion it might have to go on the list 😄

    Nice review as always. This lens seems nice for me as I have some vintage 100mm lenses that I like. And this would be a nice lightweight autofocus option.

    I always wonder personally if focus breathing really matters as much as reviewers seem to make out.
    Watching all sort of high end tv and movies I often notice a bit of focus breathing, and for my own work I’d hardly EVER do a full focus rack.
    Even if I did, the consumer would be oblivious to the lens breathing.

      Yeah. There's visible focus breathing in some great movies too. Nobody cares.

      As the matter of fact, focus breathing can be an artistic tool as well.

    Consider it is 100mm and about f2.0, and it is same size and similar weight as its 24 35 45 brother is quite impressive.

    "......... features that are optimized for video work" And then a couple of minutes later, significant focus breathing. Then the outrageous LoCA. Over to the next one, please, Samyang.

      @@MrSindriSvanI do not worry it as well. If I buy a lens for video, the focus breahting is the least aspect I would look into. I think where it can cost visual distraction is the kind of youtuber doing a lot product showcase that constantly bring product in front of camera and out. That situation I believe having a lens with good focus breathing control is prefered.

    • @acouragefann
      @acouragefann 11 месяцев назад

      I don't know it I've shot a lot of scenes where I rack all the way to minimum focus distance, or where I overexpose so much to emphasize Loca. It's almost like it's some sort of torture test + cropped (and most likely done at a close distance) to stress the point - or did you constantly notice it in his sample footage or uncropped?

    • @panmaew
      @panmaew 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@acouragefann This could be a fine optics in still photography if you know how to manage the background and foreground and the highlights in them to avoid the LoCa. But the main point is please, Samyang, you shouldn't have dressed up this optics and called it a cine lens.

    Hey Chris, I want to ask that what is a better macro lens to buy in your opinion the LAOWA 90mm F2.8 Macro 2x Lens FF II or the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM Lens?

    Love these lenses. Shame it is not t1.9 like the others. Prefer these to the Sony compact lenses as they are so light and the creaminess is gorgeous. Am a big fan. Want to try them out in a studio portrait setting.

      100mm with t1.9 would be CHONK BIG , t2.3 is actually more like f2 , so its 99% there

    Do you think Sony will update the 12-24mm F4 very soon be sure it releases same time as the 16-35mm GM 1 and it updated months ago?
    Should I pair it or Loawa 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 with A7RV with 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 as ultrawide lens with crop to use as everyday lens?

    • @NetvoTV

      Its not that popular to get an update it is still very good the one that needs updates are those that are very old lenses not lens released 3 years ago

      @NetvoTV 11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Monica, but it's 6 years already, it's good but it will be nice if it have filter attachment place in the back of the lens, if it can be even lighter and aperture ring too!

    Man I am disappointed you did not do an APS-C test on this lens. Some of the recent Samyang AF lenses the last few years were disappointingly soft on APS-C but think one looks like it may of held up to the more demanding sensor. Do you still have an APS-C Sony and I'd so how does this lens perform? Either way great review keep em up :)

    When doing your video tests on zoom lenses will you please consider including a parfocal check (as you know, for keeping focus at various focal lengths)? Yeah yeah this was a prime I know...
    Looks like Samyang is going to become a major player for us normal people soon... We're starting to see them in South Africa now.
