The combat in this game is soooo boring, why not add castles and sieges and proper armies etc.

I have good news! The developer plans to add those features in the future as the game is not in a finished state. Battles can reach up to about 400 men, I like to think it's more about the important of the individual men you're losing and the smaller scale battles seem to emphasize that.
