My daughter passed 3 yrs ago from brain cancer at 15 yrs young. This song makes me think of her and how through all her health issues she loved life and hardly ever let the cancer and the pain affect her happiness. Her smile was a ray of sunshine This and The Crow and the Butterfly make me think of her.

One of the most underrated singers in rock. This song is definitely food for thought. As I am getting older, I think of past decisions that have influenced my path in life. I am in a good frame of mind for the first time, in a long time. How did I love? Not much, to be honest, yet I am working on being a better person. I don't know if it's too late to justify past transgressions. All I know is, I am working to try and correct them.

Its not a religious song. In fact its the opposite. Its explaining that your faith and belief in god isnt going to get you into heaven alone. You have to practice what you preach and love as much as you can because its not enough to just be apart of the religion simply for the rewards.

Dont treat people like shit because when you die regardless of what happens and what you believed, its how people will remember you when you are gone thats important.
Theres so many words to describe Shinedown. After just going from "Daylight" to this...besides the major statement that their songs have saved my life, literally, numerous times, right when I always need a reminder, when about to give up, one of their songs finds it ways to my ears, then refuels my heart. As a Christian, this song is the only truth in the world. It's good to have a reminder that I will not be around forever, and all that I build other than love will eventually dissolve into nothingness. A friend of mine passed away 6 days ago. Shinedown was her favorite band. I had never heard them but found this song for her tribute. I think she would have approved. This is my new favorite song.
She was on her way to see Shinedown on Oct. 28th, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. sadly she never made it. Her name was Cindy Zimmer.

saw these guys this weekend in Tacoma. I was more excited for five finger death punch but Shinedown definitely put on the better show. Shinedown is easy better live then they are on record.
Personally as a lover of music and a person that feels that music is actual therapy for the soul that we are extremely lucky to have a band like Shinedown they not only create extensively great music but they are amazing musicians and they touch us deep where it needs to be especially when we need them the most I know personally for myself they have saved me many a time with their music and I know there are others that feel the same way

My mom passed away this morning, and one thing she is leaving behind is an incredible legacy of love. She had the biggest heart of anyone I've ever known.
Battle Born lost my dad a few months ago. It's amazing how many things you notice are missing from daily life when they are gone. Just little stuff that you never really noticed before. My dad wasn't the biggest on showing emotion but like your mom he had a huge heart himself.

I truly don't understand the people bitching about how Shinedown's sound has changed. Their first album came out in 2003 if they had the same sound they would become boring and therefore obsolete. They have changed with the times and I personally love it.

I love this song and the message it sends. I’m a Christian and even though Shinedown isn’t a Christian band this song carries a message every Christian should hear. You can follow every rule and pray your prayers till you lose your voice but in the end how we love our neighbors will show who we really are. We weren’t told to hate those unlike us but to show love and compassion for everyone
I'm not a Christian but still live by that philosophy because there's already enough pain in this world, and religious or not, I find life itself a precious thing so see no good in making it harder for anyone then it has to be. Don't be the problem, strive to be the solution 💙

Shinedown is one of my favorite bands. Still, if I came across with Brent Smith in real life, like in the supermarket, for sure i would not recognise him.
Seriously? I could pick him out of a crowd. His look has changed a lot over the years. But, so has his life. He was going down a dark hole. He pulled himself out, got off the drugs, got healthy,got God in his life. When his son was born,he said that gave him the biggest reason to change for the better. The best concert I saw was Him and Zach in an accoustic show. He opened his heart and soul to the crowd. He's an amazing man. So emotional and compassionate. You see that in his lyrics.
I got a Birthday hug from him that night. I'll never forget it. He loves his fans.

Today would have been my grandma's birthday and I sure miss her everyday. Decades have went by but I never forgot how she loved. Middle finger to diabetes. Diabetes took grandma and took dad. Still in my fight with type 1 diabetes and winning it for now. I seen the mistakes they made and I push on. Its a daily struggle to micromanage diabetes and chronic kidney disease but I am thankul and blessed that I live in this era of medical. This is a great song Shinedown! instead of celebration with cake, let me celebrate life with this song and walk on my tredmill.

Brent is far from a sell out- do you listen to his lyrics he sings what he feels and feels what he sings. The reason you are hearing more of Shinedowns music on the radio is because they are all incredibly talented and work there behinds off touring. I feel bad for those that are unaffected by Threat to Survival, this album makes me feel sooo good inside, I smile ear to ear anytime I hear a song from the new album

It took me a while to "get" Threat to Survival but once it clicked, it became my favourite album of theirs. It's very different from their previous stuff, but it has more soul; more feeling. It's a great album.
The sound is rather generic. But you are right. The lyrics are extremely insightful.

Oh and believe it, they are actually genuine irl as well. When we went to see them in concert you could tell that they love their fans and Brent, the singer even said multiple times that he couldnt be more greatful for God and all the fans because they wouldnt be anywhere without them. My dad said he has seen a LOT of concerts in his years but Shinedown has to be one of the mist, if not the most professional bands he has ever seen. I absolutely love them.

Being older parent now 55 I turned this year....grew up in the Catholic faith and believe me you hit the nail on the head....but having had cancer several times and told I would die within months you look at your life a whole different way....the only thing that is true is how you were as a person and how you loved those in your life....became a fan of yours because of my sons who listened to you faithfully now I am a big fan....absolutely spectacular is all I can say....keep it up Shinedown cause you rock!!!

I loved freely, at great expense to myself. Other people who have been abused will understand, and even a few who never were will empathize. I don't wish the damage on anyone! Just, to love freely, that openly, without any fear... I hope everyone can experience that. It's easier with a new born, human or animal, they can't reject you yet. Just, when it is someone who CAN reject you but chooses not to, that is the best feeling EVER! So, I tend to love most people. And I get hurt a lot. I shut down for months at a time, trying to recover. Then I do it again, I want to love, and the few people who turn on me, I hope they get a grape-sized bruise that is only skin deep and not really painful. I just want some consequence, not actual damage.
It's a shame when awesome humans who have the ability to forgive and love unconditionally are continuously pushed around and aside. U keep being u. Do not let this calluse world change u. U will find happiness. Please do not give up. My grandmother always said u can not help who u love. We stay in abusive relationships for different reasons. Sometimes we can not give up on our person because u don't want to be given up on. And when ppl say things like they deserve it because they r the one that stayed. They should have gotten a protective order. Not knowing that's when the abuser usually freaks out. That piece of paper isn't magic. I can honestly say I have been with my partner for 24 yrs. and it was abusive. I got tired of being the abused. So at times I was the aggressive one. I felt like I was giving up on myself if I gave up on him. 14 years ago things changed. We both put in the work. Learning how to defuse it before it got to that. Please do not give up on urself. Continue to love and I can promise u, good things will happen. U will find ur person who will not give up on u. Dont miss u chance to have the love u deserve by not giving that person who will feel the exact same as u do right now. I know this way long, but this world needs ppl like u. ❤ 💘
